I want to stress that the change that Creative Transformation
worked on me -- namely to change me from a basically selfish
person to a person committed to improving the world -- has NOT
been reversed. It is just that since there are so few people
with a conscious professed commitment to Garcian ethics and since
it is so hard to create new people committed to Garcian ethics,
(starting about 18 months ago) I came to refrain from speaking of
the parts of Garcian ethics that seems to repel smart
"altruistic" people because my main goal is to work with and to
surround myself with "altruistic" people as opposed "selfish"
people. Actually, I am still very picky about what kind of
"altruism" I will tolerate in a friend or work partner because
there are many "altruists" who would be less harmful if they just
abandoned all their attempts at altruism and became completely
selfish. Almost all Leftists and "political activists" I meet
for example fall into that category.
Also, my interactions with the people on this mailing list made
me suspect that even the few people who are consciously committed
to Garcian ethics might not all "mean the same thing" by it. In
particular, if two people on this mailing list were to
collaborate on some important project to improve the world, and
the project started to look like it was actually going to
succeed, I would tend to believe that there is a good chance that
one or the other collaborator will object to the way the project
is going, say "This is not what I thought I was signing up for,"
or have a different definition of "improve" than the other
collaborator. So that is another reason for me not to keep going
on about Garcian ethics in addition to the fact that there are so
few "Garcians" and the fact that it is so difficult to create a
new "Garcian".
But I am still interested in reading anything you all have
to write and to meeting with any of you if you come to the
San Francisco Bay Area.
