| Winter's last hurrah (I hope), as the temperature is dropping sharply tonight, and it's been snow-spitting all day. I've done my best for the little trees; hopefully they will be okay. I turned the well house back on this morning - had turned it off because I figured I was just wasting electricity on the infrared lights with a lot of this winter. Not that it's been warm, but it hasn't been to where the equipment inside the well house would freeze. I also noted several shingles loose on it this morning, simply breaking from age. That old well house is definitely on the list for this summer. I can't possibly build a more amateur one than the former folks did. Every morning, I go out to feed, and Toccata in particular is waiting at the gate. I greet him and scratch his neck, trying to see if I can get fur off. He never had really thick fur for the winter, but it's still firmly attached. He knew there was at least one more cold snap. On the positive side, I spooked a flock of geese this morning when I came out of the house. They were down in the field across the road, and they took off west. West? Is that the vote for geese who are still undecided? But they are here, at least, not still in Florida. Hopefully this sharp snap this weekend is it. I'm ready for spring. I know it's early, but I am grateful that not all winters have to be harsh ones. |
