A continuation Group within the English Working Women (EWW) series. EWW1a is dedicated to "DOMESTICS" i.e. women who work in the domestic environment, be it as an 'old fashioned' type servant in a private household or as a housekeeper of one sort or another in the public arena, such as servicing rooms and cleaning generally in a hotel or in an old folks home etc.

As with so many job descriptions there are grey areas where one "job" blends into or overlaps with another, so you may find some photos here that you might have expected to find in another Group - and vice versa.

Generally speaking I have restricted the content to women working in a housekeeping role e.g. housemaids, chambermaids and other hotel workers, domestic assistants in old peoples' homes and so on, that have a parrallel with working "in service" in the past.

Office and industrial cleaners and the like are in EWW1 in the photo album called "Cleaners" and kitchen staff are mostly in the Main Group in the photo album called "Catering".
