Everyone in the world seems to be having trouble figuring out your own time
zones for a Brisbane, Australia time.

Try using =

www.timezoneconverter.com

It's very easy to use.
On the left of the opening page, it says "Time Zone Converter" click here,
Check to make sure your own computer clock settings are correct, & off you go!

Don't forget to make a written note of the time differences.

Cathie

BlankSAW THIS SO WILL PASS ON
Library catalogue goes 'on line'

Ever wondered whether we hold a specific title in the library, and wished
you could check before you made the trip in? Well, thanks to our hardworking
webmaster and Librarian, the computerised catalogue, Athena, is now on line.
This represents more than 19,000 items - books, pamphlets, microfiche and
microfilm. Remember that this only represents about half of our total
library collection, so getting a 'no result' on Athena doesn't mean we don't
have the item in the collection - it just means it isn't on the computer
yet. We'll be updating the library catalogue on line every three months, so
keep checking. And remember that the same catalogue is available for
searching in both buildings when you come in to do your research - it runs
on four computers at Richmond Villa (Australasian collection) and two
computers at Rumsey Hall (Overseas collection)

To view the library catalogue on-line visit our website at
http://www.sag.org.au/collctn.htm You can then
choose to search the Australasian or Overseas Library collection.

Can anyone enlighten me re a passenger ship to Australia in the 1850's, I am
seeking a James Frederick Hill, from Upton , Somerset UK. and have had one reply
saying that a James Hill arrived on the Boomeang. Would this be meant to be the
Boomerang or was there a Boomeang that brought passengers to Aust.If so, can
anyone help me find out if my James Jill is the one I am seeking ,as there were
several by that name that arrived here. Mine would have been abt 22 years of age
His father was ThomasHill[mother Jane McGregor]from Upton Somerset and my head

There are a couple of neat pieces of shareware and freeware which show
the map of the world and which places are in darkness or in the
sunshine - and all you do is select your town and Brisbane and it will
give you the time in each place. I had it loaded and often used it
when making os phone calls (so I didn't get the rellies out of bed up
there in Kent or interrupt their Xmas dinner and the like ) but after a
2 HD crashes I hadn't remembered to install it.

NORFOLK [uk] POLLBOOK 1817

Don't make the mistake of ignoring electoral records in your
research. Pollbooks record the names of everyone who voted in
Parliamentary elections; if you search them for the occurrence of the
surname you are researching, you may well come across valuable clues to
help you in your quest. This particular volume lists over 7,000
individuals who voted in the Parliamentary election of May 1817; it
is
arranged alphabetically by hundred and parish, giving freeholds and
the
names of occupiers, and stating who electors voted for.

This volume is only to be found in a handful libraries,
inaccessible to many researchers. I have therefore published
it in a facsimile edition, which is available from me price £18.00
(including 2nd class postage) Overseas prices (airmail): £19.90;
$US31.80; $A57.70. Please inquire for surface & Australian dollar
prices. If
interested, please let me have your postal address. Payment is due
on the invoice which will be sent with the book, and may be paid by
your personal cheque in one of these currencies.

Dear Margaret,

Thank you for answering my e-mail re Baldock family - sorry it has taken me
awhile to answer. Went on holidays for a couple of weeks - now getting back
into the family tree business.

My Baldocks were:
Martha - b. 1832 Sussex, U.K.
Father - Joseph - b. 1809 came to Australia in 1840
Mother - Rebecca Faiman - b.4.4.1813.in Brenchley, Kent. They were married
on 23.5.1831, in Brenchley, Kent.
That is all the info I have to date on the Baldocks, I do have more on the
Fairman's. Most of this info was on the IGI.
I will be looking further when I visit the family history centre soon.
If you know anything further, all info would be appreciated.
Regards,
Aileen.

Bill Gates has a lot to answer for! However one of our chatters
mentioned Soft Windows to me and as I have a spare Mac I'll contemplate
putting something like that on there - keep that awful windows stuff

The Oxford Guide to Family History / David Hey

This volume is much more than just another guide to the construction of
a family tree. David Hey invites the reader to discover what the life of
our ancestors was really like: who they were and how they lived.

Family history is a subject with broad concerns, including the origin,
spread, and sometimes the decline and disappearance of families. The
work of social historians is therefore of great interest, whether
dealing with the size of families, the ages at which people maried, or
the mobility of population. David Hey highlights those aspects of social
history that are most relevant to family history research, and suggests
lines of inquiry that may be followed with profit and enjoyment: the
past and present distribution of surnames, the stability of certain
families, and the mobility of others.

Practical guidance is given on the basics of research - how to get
started, where to find records, and deciphering early styles of
handwriting, etc. In making the fruits of the latest scholarship
available to the family historian, the author provides an authoritative
introduction to the subjects as well as a stimulating guide for those
wishing to proceed to a more advanced stage of research.

Published Oxford University Press, 1993 (corrected 1996). Price £23.75

works in English genealogy, and should be on the desk of every serious
researcher. All of the information that the beginner requires can be
found in this book, and there is much too for the experienced

registers and monumental inscriptions, but also entries for much less
well-known subjects such as hatchments, friendly societies, and

Help Hit brick wall,
Can anyone out there help me locate where my husbands ggreatgrandfather may have
come from. All we know is that he came from Yorkshire England. His name was
Henry SALTMARSH. He was born 12th June 1819. Now we have written to History
Societies in all sections of Yorkshire to see if we can locate his birth
certificate but to no avail. We know he went to London in 1839 to board the
ship Hooghly and came to Australia. He lived all his life in Sth Aust. and
married 3 times. We believe he received some financial support from England.
He was a very well educated man for that time period as when he came out he
worked for a surveyor and later became a teacher and a lay preacher.

There haven't been postings to my English List for a week or two now.
Where did you all go. Theres ample time and space to send your email
questions, surname lists etc. If you have posed a question in the
past and it hasn't been answered then resend to try again.
I am now back. I don't think I'll be travelling away to classes so
much now, uless I am invoted by a group who has a grant to pay the
expenses. Its costing such a fortune and my dad is getting a bit sick
of driving everywhere. I am concentrating with ON-LINE courses. My
current one to do with ENGLISH RESEARCH is being well received. I
will be offering it on line again in May. I will also be offering new
courses too. They will all be advertised shortly.

All the best from now and have a safe and happy Easter, Don't forget
the REAL reason for Easter in the death and ressurection of Our
Saviour.

Hello Janet and other List Members !
I need some suggestions - please don't be rude <G> !

I am trying to find information on my gggg grandfather born circa 1750 in
the UK. Unfortunately I do not have very many details ........... here is
what I do have
Thomas Henry MORSE B ?
                                        M ?
                                        Henrietta Mary ? B ? D 1833 Somerset
( a widow at the time)
                                        D ?

There are 10 children born between 1775 and 1788, I do not know where the
eldest a William Thomas was born, and unfortunately he died pre registration
being compulsory - so I cannot track through that avenue either ! - but the
other 9 were all born in Winslade Hampshire except the last who was born in
Upton Grey.

Can anyone suggest where to look for information - bearing in mind that I am
located in OZ ?

All suggestions and ideas readily accepted, if I cannot get
around/over.through this wall I can not continue my research - aghhhhhhh!
the thought !!

cheers
Jennifer

I am looking for any information on the Boneheyo family who lived in
the London/Essex area between 1800 and 1950. My Great Grandmother
was Ada BONEHEYO and her father was Philip BONEHEYO who was a
Carpenter. Ada BONEHEYO married Albert Hinton SMITH 31 Aug 1890 at
Christ Church Parish of West Ham, Essex.

I have only been able to find a small handful of BONEHEYO's from that
time all living in and around London. The oldest member of their
family appears to have come from The Netherlands.

Can anyone help with information relating to this surname?

who was christened the same time as Walter. Handel was a Gunner
stationed at Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich Kent in 1881 when he
