Description

Wassail!

A traditional English Church service can be an inspiring experience. English Christianity has defined us as a people, but the mainstream churches' increasing emphasis on a universalist agenda have left many wondering how relevant they are to our own culture and identity.

The English have not always been Christian. We only know a little about our ancestors' Heathen religion, but we do know that it did not simply vanish following our conversion. Many customs and traditions remain, embedded with our own expression of the Christian faith.

These traditions are being revived, known by names such as Odinism, Asatru and Heathenry. Many are finding their home in these traditions. But others, whilst sympathetic, do not wish to abandon Christianity.

The EFC seeks to be a bridge. It teaches that the 'Word' of God has been made known to different peoples through our native folk religions. The Word became human in the form of Jesus Christ and his teachings help us to understand our native folk faith. As Christ is a separate personality of the one God, so are our unique folk Gods and Goddesses.

We aim to explore our folk myths and resurgent folk faiths and to identify areas of common ground with Christianity. This means exploring our myths and poetry as well as our native spirituality currently being revived. We aim to be a home for those practising a form of folk Christianity or a dual faith, sometimes called Christo-Heathenry.

A folk religion is an ethnic religion and as such we celebrate and seek to preserve our native Anglo Saxon English identity. This does not imply negative feelings towards other peoples and faiths. We strongly advocate peaceful co-existence between the different peoples and faiths of the world, each respecting the others right to exist.
