Dear Santosh,

Culvert its a drainage structure. i.e which drains water

depends upon the shape is the name of the culvert. say pipe culvert means culvert madeup with pipes.

eaither pipe of box culvert depends upon location, discharge factor and available fund of the project.

if u want any clarification on this give a mail to Me.

Thanking you

Basically:A culvert is a structure that allows water to pass under a road. Please note it differs from a bidge which CARRIES the road.(a culvert passes under a road & a road passes over a bridge. There is,however,a scientific difference regarding the amounts of water passes to the other side. From 0 cubic meters it will be a culvert and above a certain cubic meters a bridge.

Pipe culvert is circular,Box culvert is box shaped.

Dear William

Your question is not exactly clear to me but I assume you are referring to groundwater and surface water analysis, which involves checking the effect of using any of the wells or surface river water or the effect of what contaminates each source to the rest. In that case;

·         pumping tests can be conducted on each source at the same time checking the drawdown levels in each well.

·         You might note that the wells draw water from a different aquifers or the river flows over an aquiclude in that location. Or they affect each other.

·         Contaminant transport from the river can also be modeled for the wells. Wastewater is normally discharged into rivers and if regulations are not met might affect drinking water in wells

·         Also check without pumping seasonal water tables of the wells as affected by river levels and flooding

You may think along those lines

Respected group members,

Please give your valuable inputs to resolve my below mentioned doubt.

Normally we reduced column size by  making main steel in proportionate kink (like a bent up bar ) within the  beam depth and turn it into appropriate position, we reduced column in any direction.
Other than this as per structural detail column reduced with single side (350*900mm column size reduced into 230*900mm column size at another floor); by cut down the column main bar (single side column bar) at slab level and supplementary  new bar introduce into beam depth with achieving suitable development length. Is this safe practice to do this or we oppose this?
Please give your valuable input to resolve my doubt.
Is there any IS suggest this type of reducing column method? then please send it.
Waiting for inputs,

Hi Aswin,

The practice of kink is not well recommended. Even in places where it is adopted due to obvious reasons, a slope of bend of 1in 6 or more should be given for the bent rod.

The second method of terminating one set of bars inside the beam (a bend inside the beam to give better anchorage is preferable)and extending the bars of lesser sized columns into the lower level column, giving development length is more reliable and technically correct.

Hope this is clear.

1.for normal consideration of tying of bars by wires it is 45d(d-diameter)

2.if it is butt weld you can make use of 10d.
3.But in practical purpose to avoid confusion they make use of 1m as constant
upto certain span.

Dear All,

Suppose you calculate Ld for  M20 Concrete,Fe500 Steel

In Tension Ld=  dia of bar X root S             Page no 42 IS 456-2000
                      4 X toe bd                         Root S = fy x 0.87= 500x0.87=435

Toe bd Value is 1.2  Page no 43 is456-2000
This value is increased by 60%for Deformed bars, and increase by 25% in Compression.

 In Tension Ld= dx435= 56.641 d
                        4x1.92                       1.2x 60%= 1.92

In Cmpression Ld= dx435 = 43.313 d
                            4x2.4                      1.92x25%=2.4
