Emmanuel Church is a community of believers, most of who live in the Morningside Heights area of New York. Though we belong to the Presbyterian Church in America, we warmly welcome people from all church backgrounds and none. Committed to the historic Christian faith as summarized in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, we are also committed to a non-stuffy and relevant way of articulating that faith. We call ourselves “Emmanuel” (“God with us”) because we believe that Jesus has brought God near to us. He did this by dying in our place (thus removing our guilt) and by pouring out his Holy Spirit to live in and among us. God’s nearness brings life to all that we do—to our worship, our friendships, our families, our thought life, our studies, and our work.
