RE: [emergencypacketclient] Status

Hi Stan,

I would certainly like to help.  I don't know what kind of help you are looking for.  I have designed software (requirements docs), written a few things in C and Delphi, including control programs and databases.  I'm wanting to learn PERL and Python. It has been a while since I've written any code, but I have some projects of my own planned for "someday."  I have also evaluated software, both in terms of "end-user experience" and with respect to applicability for use.

I'm also a licensed user of the client software, but to tell the truth I haven't actually gotten a chance to use it.  I got distracted into other projects before I was able to make contact with anyone else by digital modality, but since then we've had some people put up digital stations and I plan to get things running again.

Subject: [emergencypacketclient] Status

Hello All,

It has been some time since any activity has been on this group.  It has also been some time since any work has been done on the Emergency Service Packet Client.

I have retired and moved.  In the past few months I have been building a new shack and workshop area where I hope to return to work on some more evolution of the original client activity.  I still see gaps in the overall digital infrastructure that need to be filled to make amateur radio emergency response more efficient.  I have had one person volunteer to assist and am looking for others who might be willing to contribute as well.

You may recall that the intent was to have a broad application designed primarily for use in the disaster area where the bulk of communications was needed.  Eventually it was to include database capabilities with various applications around that database.  That is still how I would like to evolve the application and plan to start back to work on it in the next few months.

If you would like to help with this effort, please let me know.

Regards,

Stan Edwards, WA4DYD

Jeff, All the programming thus far has been in Visual Basic 5 and 6. When I looked at porting it over to VB dot Net, I found that Microsoft had not kept Basic...
