The railroad crossings on Route 1, just over the Tomlinson Bridge, are incredibly dangerous to cyclists and I know several people who have fallen and been injured there just within the past two months. It's only a matter of time before something worse happens. I think these signs should be installed right away and that additional warning measures, like road paint, would be good to consider as well.
They also are very much needed in the port area along the new railroad line that parallels Waterfront Street, particularly the crossing at Alabama Street. Cyclists frequently make right turns from Alabama onto Waterfront, leading inexperienced cyclists to cross the tracks at a 45 degree angle. That is a major cycling route, part of the future "Harborside Greenway."
In the meantime, if you're leading a group of friends along these routes, be sure to warn them about the tracks.
