Hi All,

Have found by googling that:

John Elwood son of Christopher of Dufton matriculated 1662 age 18 at Queen's
College Oxford.

John was probably b1643 Dufton, the son of Christopher & Bridget Dobson.

He was obviously alive in 1662. I have no further information for him after that
date. Does anyone have anything?

In our records we have a John, son of Bridget & Christopher, born about 1647,
but no further information, but as that is obviously the same John, will
amend the information in our records accordingly.

One possibility is that he became an Anglican clergyman after graduation (if
he graduated), so it might be worth checking that out, and if that was the
case he could have gone to a parish anywhere in the country. 1662 was just
after the Restoration of Charles II.

So that makes it pretty likely that he was the one at Oxford.

It was his brother Reginald that I was looking for when I found your messages
on Rootschat -- do you have any more info about him?

I'm calling for volunteers, or for nominations.

If you think you could do the job, or know another member who could do the
job, please give a brief introduction of yourself (or the person you are
nominating) to tell us a little about them, their interest in the topic of
the forum and so on.

DUTIES OF THE MODERATOR

* to approve new members
* to check spam messages, and pass them or delete them
* to see that messages remain on topic and remove or ban members who are rude
or insulting to others, or who post spam

It's not a very onerous job, but it is one that needs to be done.

WHY DO WE NEED A MODERATOR?

I have been owner/moderator of this forum since it started to be hosted by
YahooGroups.

I'm happy to continue doing that, but I'm going away for a while and it would
be useful if someone could keep things going while I'm gone. New member
requests, for example, expire after 14 days, and I'll be gone longer than
that.

Also, I'm getting old, and one day I'll pop my clogs, and it would be nice if
discussions could continue after I've gone. The best way of ensuring that
would be to have one or two additional moderators.

So please volunteer, or persuade someone else to do so.

If there are lots of nominations, we'll have a vote.

I do have some Dobson info. I'll need to find it though!!

At the moment, all I can find is:

Bridget Dobson is the daughter of Reginald Dobson and Margaret. She was born
1607 in Dufton.
Baptism on 07 May 1607 in Dufton [3]. She died on 27 Dec 1662 in Dufton [3].

I will keep looking!

Hi,

I have had a look through some of my Dobson papers. I did have a go at
researching this family but I don't seem to have written much down.

I do have a will of Reginald Dobson dated 1681. He was the son of William
D-----------------------------------obson mentioned in Bruce's website. William
was married to Elizabeth and born 1609 Dufton.

Reginald the son was born 1647 and died 1681 fairly young aged 34. In his will
he mentions:

His sister Margaret Jackson
His sister Elizabeth Elwood
Elizabeth Furnass dau Robert Furnas
His aunt Genat Atkinson
His sister Agnes Hall
His wife Genatt (there is a marriage in familysearch - Jennatt Thompson mar
Reginald Dobson Dufton 24/11/1670)
Daughter Elizabeth.

Witnessed by Robert Thornbor, Thomas Elwood (husband of his sister Elizabeth?),
Robert Furnas.

From this it would appear that Elizabeth Dobson b1645, dau of William Dobson
b1609, William son of Reginald Dobson and sister of Bridget Dobson married
Thomas Elwood 1666 Dufton.
