Since I was following the discussion on "Elisabeth"-translation with

interest, I'm now looking for a translation of my own Name preferably to

Sindarin, but I would be thankful for Quenya proposals as well.



My name is Herwig Reiter



The surname is simple: Reiter is German for "Rider" thus meaning

"rochben"



My first name means "battling army" I suppose... there seem to be some

experts on names within this mailing-group, so correct me, if I'm

wrong...



perhaps a combination of "dagro-" (to battle) or "maetha-" (to fight)

and "enuir" (army, cf. an ICE roleplaying sourcebook from "Rhûnenuir"

Eastarmy)



And a last request: can anyone make up a word for Franconia /

Franconian, my "ethnic"-group?

Is there any word in Quenya or Sindarin (or an Eldarin-stem at all) for

frank or free... or sincere, generous?

   If from Germanic *Harjawig- I suppose army-battle or army-warrior, which

I'd render Sangohtar "Throng-soldier" in Quenya, Gweithador "Troop-warrior"

in Sindarin.

    The last word isn't appropriate.

    Tolkien rendered Francis (the name of his guardian) "Faidron" in his old

Gnomish lexicon, from a root FAYA; LEK- is "free", Noldorin lhein (S lain)

"free"; the "Free Men" might be the Leinwaith or Leidhrim, in Quenya maybe

the Lencar or Lencalie? (the last allows you to make adjectival/genitival

formations like Lencalieeva).
