I've been thinking about how to translate this into Quenya for a while. Not for
any scholarly reason. I guess I just have a bit of a thing for the House of
Feanor, so I wanted to know what their little... title would be in their own
language.
 
My guess would be either 'Úharyana' or 'Alaharya', but idk which and they could
both be dead wrong. To my knowledge, both these prefixes are usually translated
as "un-" rather than "dis-".
 
Between the two, I sort of lean toward 'Alaharya' since 'ala-' is used in 'Arda
Alahasta'. The context being that Arda used to be 'hastaina' (marred) but is now
[or will be] un-marred. Same with the House of Feanor. They were possessed, then
they got dispossessed. So 'ala-' at least seems attested in use as a reversal or
undoing of something.
 
Soundwise I prefer 'Úharyana' simply because I somehow feel like it fits the
mood and the subjects better than 'Alaharya'. But unfortunately the prefix 'ú-'
seems less likely to work for 'dis-' since it doesn't seem to have the
conontations "undone" that seem possible with 'ala-'. It seems to more strictly
just mean 'not'.
 
negative prefixes aside, I'm also tentative on the use of the past participle of
'harya'. The English word looks like a past participle, but there's something
about the context that bugs me. The House of Feanor is the subject rather than
the object of the [dis]possession right? I don't know if that matters.
 
The English title is "The Dispossessed" but I left out the article in the
Quenya, because from what I've seen Quenya doesn't seem to like using articles
in titles the way English does.
 
So anyway, some input from you guys would be awesome. :)
