informant on the death record for an unknown reason simply ignored the fact that

Brenda found this, just makes me more confused but maybe will help you.
sharon

America's line descends through William Stuart Lykins to her Grand father
the Reverend Milton Lykins who was born 1818 and is buried in the Lykins
Cemetery on Buford Lykins's farm in Morgan County Kentucky. Milton was
married twice. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Lykins the daughter of
David Lykins and Nancy Williams; they had five children together. His second
marriage was to Elizabeth (Kash) Ferguson born 8 July 1817, Elk Fork, Morgan
Co., Kentucky. Together they had four more children. The first of which,
James Franklin Lykins born 24 August 1856 in Caney, Morgan Co. KY, was the
father of America 'Lizzie' Lykins. He married Phoebe Ellen Prater on
September 1880 in Morgan County Kentucky. According to the family Bible
America was born on November 8, 1882 in Caney, Kentucky. She died on August
12, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is buried together with her husband
Sterling Price Steele in Maineville, Ohio.

Daniel Williams and Elizabeth (Kash/Cash) Ferguson are my gg-grandparents.
Their son, Miles W. Ferguson, married Sarah Jane (Wells) Ferguson. Miles W.
Ferguson died in 1894 leaving her with 8 children and 1 on the way. Now, for
the strangest part--when she remarried, Sarah Jane (Wells)
Ferguson married the son of Rev. Milton and Elizabeth (Kash/Cash) Ferguson
Lykins, James Franklin Lykins. They married on April 9, 1910. James Franklin
Lykins was the husband of Sarah Jane as well as her half brother-in-law.

Sarah Jane died in 1945 at the age of 92 years 7 months and 19 days. She is
buried in the Lykins Cemetery, Cannel City, Morgan Co., KY, beside her first
husband, Miles W. Ferguson. My husband and I visited the graves sites
recently and also the grave site of William Ferguson, my gggg-grandfather,
in Magoffin Co., KY. It was a thrill to be able to trod the same soil as the
ancestors trod. William and Catherine (Lemaster) are believed to be buried
on the land that was their farm under a favorite tree. It is now on someone
elses' farm and there are many graves marked with field stones.

I don't know if I cleared anything up or just confused you more. If you have
any questions, please let up know. I can go back 3 generations on the Wells
line and can go back to England and Scotland on Sarah's mother's line. Her
maiden name was Talitha C. Jones. She was born in Malone, KY.

In the book, "The Ferguson and Haney Heritage Book" by Dolores Ray
(Ferguson) Osborne, Dolores writes, "Sarah Jane Ferguson married James
Franklin Lykins, son of Rev. Milton Lykins and Elizabeth Kash on April 9,
1910 and went to live at the home which is known as the Buford Lykins home
below Caney. When her health got bad she came to live with us. She
maintained her strong will and a good sense of humor until she died at age
92 in 1945 at our home. She is buried on the hill in front of the Miles
Henry Ferguson house along with my grandfather and Uncle Ambrose Ferguson."
Sarah Jane Ferguson was Dolores' grandmother and my great grandmother.

The information that I have is out of the Lykins book???? if it is correct. So
remember I don't have any proof of this.

James Franklin Lykins b. 24 Aug 1856 Caney, Morgan Co., KY d. 14 Oct 1945
     1st m. Phoebe Ellen Prater 30 Sep 1880
     2nd m. Catherine Webb 1893
     3rd m. Sarah J. Ferguson 1910

There is no death dates for any of his wives in the book, but if Catherine died
before 1900 that would explain her not being in any census's

When I received my gggrandfather's death cert., it listed him as being widowed
and says his wife was his first wife, even though he remarried after she died.
It does not mention his second wife. Plus he is buried with his first wife. So,
whoever gave the info, could have put down Catherine Webb instead of Sarah
Ferguson. This is just something to ponder. Like I said, I can't prove it one
way or the other.

Hi, I need some help on the spouse/spouses of James Franklin Lykins born Aug
1856 who was son of Rev. Milton Lykins and Elizabeth Kash. There are online
trees which say he was married to Sarah Jane Wells Ferguson, the widow of Miles
W. Ferguson. I am having a problem with that!!! James Franklin Lykins's Oct 1945
death record says his wife was Catherine Webb Lykins, and also says he was
widowed when he died. His death record names his parents, and his birth date
matches his Morgan County, Kentucky birth record, so I know it's the right James
Franklin Lykins (son of Rev. Milton and Elizabeth Kash Lykins). I found Sarah
Jane Wills(Wells?)Lykins death record, names her parents and husband as Franklin
Lykins. She died in Dec of 1945, and says she was a widow. This all doesn't add
up. ????????? Was Sarah Jane Wells Ferguson married to the other James Franklin
Lykins who was born in 1855? I found his birth record and he was named Franklin
Lykins and his mother is named as Nisa Lykins, no father named. I know that this
guy was named James Franklin Lykins from the 1930 Morgan census, he is with wife
Sarah J. but I can't find a James Franklin Lykins with a wife named Catherine on
the census. I am confused.

Or try the library (606)789-4355 in Paintsville. When I was there a couple
years ago, there were volunteers in the Kentucky Room eager to help. I know they
have copies of the Johnson Co cemetery index books there. In fact, they have a
lot on Johnson Co. family history.

Hi Bonnie,

Is it possible that your Williams family might tie in with the Joseph Williams
family? If so I have a good bit of information on them.. They are my family.

I have a Robert Williams born abt 1830 married to an Elizabeth Evans, had a
son named Lucas P. Williams who died in Johnson County and another Robert
Williams born abt 1811 who was married to an Elizabeth Bunyan or Bunyard. --- In

I am doing some research right now trying to find some Williams linkups using
the obits on the Johnson County site. Interesting that I found 2 Robert
Williams both married to Ellizabeths. I have to go look closer. I KNOW there
were 2 different Robert & Elizabeth Williams families in and around Paintsville
during the 1860 to 1900 time period. I am still trying to find my Elizabeth
Williams' maiden name.

I did find somebody who has transcribed volumes 3 and 4 and is selling
them. In her index to volume 3, she lists these Couches - "Stutter"
John, Andy, Austin, Charlie, Dick, Eli, Ira, James, Joe, John, Lige,
Martin, Phoebe, Polly, Sally, Sallie, Thomas, and William. I believe
that most of these came from Perry County. There is a single Crouch
("Brother") in volume 4.

A couple of years I posted this reference from a book called "A
History of Kentucky" (1922): "Violett Couch was an aunt of Jeff Couch,
a prominent citizen of Morgan County, whose sons Squire Kelse and A.J.
Couch were leading farmers of the County. Daniel Williams was the
first white man to cut a tree at West Liberty, and he built the first
cabin on what is now known as mainstreet..." Jefferson's father was
Andrew, whose father was Martin (in book above), and whose father was
"big " John. Jefferson was born ca. 1845, making it impossible for
Violet to be his aunt. John was born in ca. 1750. Maybe Violet was
Jefferson's great, great aunt but John did have seven daughters and
none were named Violet.

Hey Bobby,

Good to see you back on here... Did I ask you before or not have you ever found
a cemetery in Flat Gap called the McClure Cemetery. I have a cousin who may be
buried there..
Take care,

   Hey Bobby,

Were you ever able to find the graves of Cynthia Williams Hill and Spencer
Hill? I know they were supposed to be buried on Patoker Branch but with the
building of Paintsville Lake and removal of graves and such was wondering if
there graves were disturbed or not.

Thanks for the kind comments on my web site.

I agree that a new visitor to this site would benefit from reading my summary
on my site or here in message 4033 and then scanning the messages from that
point.

I promised Lee that I would update my summary and I intend to do so, I just
can't say when that will be.

During my unemployment this spring, I made some tweaks to my site. There is
now a master index by name that will display any photograph, document or grave
head stone containing that name on my site. However not all the documents are
indexed. You will still have to browse through the Floyd County Marriage Book
for example which contains several marriages signed by Daniel Williams.

I also have all the cemeteries located on a Google Map.

Many of us with Williams' ancestry are also intertwined with the Hills. Last
spring I photographed the entire Crockett Memorial Gardens cemetery and also
have the Corps grave relocation documents on my site.

I may be in Ky this fall. If there is a cemetery someone would like me to
photograph, please let me know.

   Thanks,

Very nice website.  I don't think it applies to me, except the Boone side.  I am
doing some research right now trying to find some Williams linkups using the

There was a fellow named Rolly or Raliegh Crouch who shows up several times on
military lists with Edward Williams, Nicholas Anderson, John Harper etc. I
