Borrowed Words

One of the absurdities of the former Shah of Iran is that he tried to
purify the Persian language by replacing words borrowed from Arabic
(some hundreds of years earlier) with Persian words. The funny thing is
that a lot of the words no longer had the same meeaning as modern
Arabic and were completely Persian.

I think Ataturk tried to do the same with Turkish but I am not sure?

This is the kind of thing that ultra-nationalists will do. I do not
know if Hitler tried this kind of thing with German?
