The ESPA is an artist-run centre which encourages and supports the creation and dissemination of small press and independent media ventures on a global scale. We are a resource network for independent media producers from all walks of life and skill levels, fostering the D.I.Y. philosophy that anyone can be creative and have a voice. We are arts-activists, and consider the arts to be vital tools for positive social change. We produce festivals, exhibitions and other multidisciplinary projects under a socially-conscious mandate, and have a central location at the Edmonton Public Library which maintains an extensive resource library/archive and office, shared by On Spec & Other Voices magazines.
As of Sept. 2004 this listserv is a MODERATED list: we decided to switch to moderated to weed out the spammers and other questionable lurkers, but otherwise the list remains the same and provides lots of great info about events and projects related to independent media and arts activism.
IMPORTANT NOTE: TO BE APPROVED TO JOIN THIS LIST YOU MUST PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFO WITH YOUR SUBSCRIPTION REQUEST: your real name, full mailing address, phone number, and a letter if intent; also submit your website, project info, etc., (if applicable). This is so we can track our membership demographic (local vs. int'l), and get a better sense of what info should go out over the list. IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT THE ABOVE INFO YOU WILL NOT BE APPROVED TO JOIN THIS LIST. If you are transient (with no permanent address or phone), please write us to find out how you can subscribe.
Monthly meetings (in Edmonton) are usually held the 3rd or 4th Wednesday of the month (usually 7 pm). If you would like to attend a meeting or otherwise get involved, please contact us by the 2nd Wednesday/month. For more info contact us at (780) 434-9236 or <contact[AT]edmontonsmallpress.org>.
