This web-site discussion group has been created for and by parents (and guardians) of children with the "Emotional Disabilities" special education label living in Fairfax County, VA. Parents whose children are just being considered for this label or who have related labels that include emotional disabilities are also welcome. Parenting such children can be extremely isolating; now thanks to the Internet, we can find each other and share our experiences with the only people who can start to understand what we have been going through. In this group, we help each other navigate the school experience, sharing information about the various programs available through the Fairfax County Public Schools, contract placements, private schools and home schooling.
Getting accurate information about ED school programs can be difficult. ED parents may find little in common with the parents of regular education children; already exhausted by their parenting problems and geographically spread out, they have trouble networking with each other. Often they lack the resources to make fully informed decisions about educational issues.
Emotionally disabled children deserve a good education and a high school degree. Let us help each other to mold the best possible programs for our children that they may graduate and go on to become the productive citizens that we dream they can be.
