profit-and-loss statement for a typical mass-market paperback stacks
up. Good background for those of you thinking that e-books should be
cheaper...

In this theoretical example, the "paper, printing, and binding" cost
is about $19K, but the book loses $21K. That's exclusive of shipping
and handling. That is, even if an ebook delivery format removed all
PPB costs, you'd still lose money (on the same sales).
