Description
eBirdsNYC is primarily for reporting wild bird sightings within NYC and surrounding areas, defined rather vaguely - it might include places like Brigantine and Cape May in migration, the Adirondacks and Catskills during winter etc. Basically anywhere that's a reasonable day-trip for NYC-based birders that has interesting birds.
Topics appropriate for this list:
Bird sightings from the NYC area
Rare/novel bird sightings from further afield
Meeting/trip announcements of a birding nature (e.g. Audubon, Linnaean)
Identification issues related to local sightings
(and similar subjects)
TO POST A MESSAGE TO THE LIST: email the message to ebirdsnyc@yahoogroups.com. Emailing it to me won't always get it posted, but you can try. Logging in with the same Yahoo ID that you subscribe with, you can also use the "Post" link on the sidebar to post.
Please indicate if a spotting scope is useful to view the birds - not everyone is familiar with all locations (for coastal locations, Jamaica Bay etc assume a scope is very useful). Directions to less popular spots are appreciated.
Advertising, political discussions, spam/virus alerts etc are not appropriate. Raptor nest and owl roost locations should not be reported. I made a specific exception for the Central Park Boreal Owl but I don't report other owl roost sites. Advocation of or use of owl taping and other forms of harassment are forbidden.
Yahoo's software is not without it's issues - if it fails to subscribe try one or more other methods. You won't always see the messages immediately as a new member. A temporary stop-gap is that the list archives are world-readable via the web. Feel free to email me with issues, but understand "admin" tools are limited in this context.
Questions ? Emailing me at the list owner address doesn't work well due to the deluge of spam. Use my gmail address (see a post of mine).

Re: Question about Starling chics
Starlings are cavity nesters so it will be easy to miss the nests. Young can come out of a nest due to a variety of reasons: predator drop, sibling kick out,
