This afternoon I was up at Arlington and getting ready to give a demonstration ride to a builder and when I turned the key to start – I got a very ugly grinding sound instead of the familiar prop-turning sound. After a closer inspection it looks like I have a cracked starter housing and the teeth won’t stay engaged in the ring gear.

 

I need to try to get the engine started and the plane back to Paine field where my hangar is. On the off chance someone out there has a starter I can borrow…I need a Sky-Tec 122-12PM. It’s a long shot – but with a bunch of builder you never know !!

(and, yes, we took a stab at hand propping – with dual electronic ignition – we can’t get it spinning fast enough).
