Shame on John Yoo!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #4513 of 4634 |
This Sunday and every Sunday, from 4-6pm, we will be at John Yoo's house, 1241 Grizzly Peak Blvd, Berkeley, to say SHAME ON YOO. We ask "torture lawyer" Yoo to apologize for his war crimes, and we want him fired from his U.C. Berkeley Law School teaching post, disbarred in Pennsylvania (the only state he where he is licensed to practice law), and prosecuted for war crimes.

A coalition of groups and individuals has been going to Yoo's house where they hold banners and signs, pass out flyers, and chat with drivers, bicyclists and folks walking by about Yoo. The response has been solidly supportive or curious.

One of the groups, CODEPINK, has an "Arrest the War Criminals" campaign on the its website at
http://www.codepinkalert.org/ (scroll down).

Because John Yoo lives in Berkeley, we have a great local opportunity to confront a main architect of the torture program.

Yoo has never uttered one word of apology or remorse for the deaths and suffering of human beings tortured due to his legal say-so. On the contrary, he continues to argue that it was necessary to give the President power to break the law and torture detainees to keep America safe. Yoo is wrong and he is complicit in torture-- a felony and a war crime*.

Watch this 3-minute video of a debate at Chapman University, where Yoo taught last semester. The law professors debating him demolish his ludicrous and immoral defense of torture in short order:

We are getting to Yoo. After our first protest at his house he posted a "Private Property-- No Trespassing Sign" in his driveway. He contacted the U.C. Berkeley Police and subsequently U.C. detectives showed up at each protester's house. Two of us met with the detectives and we explained that ours is a legal, peaceful protest, that we don't plan to harm Yoo, and that we're asking the proper authorities to do their job and hold him accountable, including arresting and prosecuting him. Although the right-wing blogosphere is calling us "vigilante stalkers" and saying that if harm comes to Yoo we'll be blamed, we'll continue to be at his house every Sunday.

Join us for an hour or two this Sunday and every Sunday. It would be nice to have some music, so if you play the guitar, sing, or have written a song about Yoo, please come up. The police are at John Yoo's house too, keeping it safe and legal.
