Welcome to EAHE, an affiliate of The National Council of Home Educators of New Zealand Inc (www.nchenz.org.nz)! You’re either already enjoying the trials & rewards of the homeschooling lifestyle or seriously investigating, in which case check out Auckland Home Educators Inc at www.ahe.org.nz, too.
EAHE's mix of 150+ Christian & non-Christian families live mostly in Howick, Pakuranga, Mt Wellington, Ellerslie, Remuera, Panmure, Glendowie, etc, some travelling from other areas. You’ll find diverse approaches from natural learning (aka unschooling) through to full-on curricula, with the common thread of retaining responsibility for raising our own children.
When energy allows, we have adult encouragement evenings, an activity newsletter (in abeyance pending a new editor), socials, etc. There’s no organising committee – anyone’s free & encouraged to put something together which complements existing options. Each regular activity has sprung up through someone's timely interest & willingness to take action. We wish to develop the pool of opportunities, a responsibility to be taken by every member, including yourself when ready. Trips might be sparked by the passion or knowledge of a child, family member or someone bumped into recently. Opportunities are all around us so do consider taking the bull by the horns: develop your own skills & organise an activity/trip/talk/concert or two when you're settled!
To join EAHE (if you haven’t already), send a blank email to eahssg-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to start the application process. Once joined, you should immediately receive some useful documents. Please take the plunge & introduce yourself briefly. A mention of your suburb, family's ages & stages, home education approach, interests/passions, etc, might spawn some contacts for you, but hold your courage if you don’t receive a response! Life’s busy!
Enjoy your lifestyle choice - it’s a marathon not a race!
