I got this message last night when I was backing up some cds. I went to Create
CUE Sheet > Multiple WAV Files With Gaps...(Noncompliant) and the message
appeared. If i click ok on the message EAC closes. If i don't creat a cue
sheet I can still rip cds and eac works just fine. What is this message? Any
suggestions on how to fix it so i can create cue sheets would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Jeff

I had an extra CDRW drive at work and I'm using that. It's a LITE ON. I've
noticed that other users use PLEXTOR.

You may want to try (in the program) EAC, Drive, Writer, put in a blank CDR and
use the Detect Write Features as a form of calibration.

And while you are in there, put in an audio CD and check the Read section
(autodetect).

Also, EAC, EAC options, Write, and check the "Disable Copy Protection Flag..."

You also may want to copy and move the WAV files to a new, temp folder, perhaps
on your Desktop and try dragging and dropping them from there into EAC.

Just some suggestions.

Good luck!

What SATA Internal, or External DVD+-RW burner will work the best with EAC?
I have a Dell Inspiron 530.
LG, Sony, or Plextor/Lite On? Any stories, or comments would be appreciated.I
see that LG has a disc so the the burner will be recognized. I saw also software

I've got SATA LG GH22LS30 and it's very good. Plextor is too expensive
needlessly.

No you don't.

I've had excellent results with NEC/Optiarc drives, which had the C2
error detection features on them so got perfect rips blindingly fast.
Plextor are overpriced. The others are so cheap it hardly matters if it
breaks down or you don't like it, you can just get another.

Cheers,

John.

Today, I decided to download EAC V0.99 prebeta 5from their site at
http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en/index.php/resources/download/ and opted for the
digitalworld.de server. As download started, I received a warning that file
"eac-0.99pb5.exe" had been reported as containing links to sites with viruses
and other malware. I tried a download from one of the proposed alternate
sources: Main Download Location Europe with the same results.

I opted to download the file and submitted it to Virus Total where one out of 41
virus scanners--Nod32--reported a variant of Win32/Adware.ADON. I wrongly
speculated that this might be a false positive since only 1 scanner reported it.
Consequently, I installed EAC, which launched on intallation termination.
Immediately, My firewall intercepted an outbound communication by a program
calle ebayshortcuts.exe.

Conclusion: "eac-0.99pb5.exe" carries an extra payload. I don't know whether
this is intentional or not. If it is, a warning and and an option to bail out
would have been nice. I don't know either if this payload is a nasty one. I did
a full disk search for a e-bay; ebay and found a bunch of files containing ebay
in the name and deleted them all.

My next step will be to launch a full virus scan.

Any information about this payload would be appreciated.

During installation, there was an option check-box for 'eBay Icon',
which was pre-checked. You left it checked, so eBayShortcuts.exe was
installed. If you had unchecked the option box , eBayShortcuts.exe
would not have been installed.

"I did a full disk search for a e-bay; ebay and found a bunch of files

Without knowing anything about what they did? Without examining the
date that each was written to your disk? Maybe you should do a full
disk search for ".exe" and delete all files that have that string in
their name.

"Conclusion: "eac-0.99pb5.exe" carries an extra payload."

No, it contains optional add-ons that you can choose not to install.
It told you it was going to install that. You left the option
checked. It installed it.

According to the "what's new" page, since January 2008 and 0.99pb4:

"Further I have included a desktop and quick launch bar icon in the
installer which link to eBay. As the advertisements on the homepage
dropped by a great amount over the last year, I decided to try to go
this way. I hope that you can understand my decision! Anyway, the icons
are created only on the installation of EAC and their installation can
be easily prevented by deselecting the eBay component within the EAC
installer. The EAC application itself is still completely free from
advertisement or spyware (and will be)!"

So you ought to have been able to prevent the installation of the eBay
stuff. Was there no such option?

Thank you Mark,

I was worried I had picked up a virus. I feel better now and I am confident
that I have removed most of what was added and can keep EAC.

Fred, Thank you for your reply.
Q ::: From what?
A ::: A window popped up. It bore no mention of the application.
::: I tought it might have been a new feature in IE 8.
::: I was running Avira as an anti-virus.

C ::: I missed the checkbox and apologize to the author for my comment to the
effect that a warning would have been nice.

C ::: Yes the dates and the file types were checked.
Yes only the files I felt were related were deleted.
It's not rocket science to equate files named
       eBayShortcuts.exe, eBayShortcuts.pf and eBay.lnk with the
       EBAY_SHORTCUTS_1026.EXE blocked by my firewall.
I also suppressed the %AppData%\AD ON Multimedia and its
       eBay Shortcuts subdirectory.

C ::: A number of registry keys and values were created or modified by the
installation but none seemed related to the eBayShortcuts.

C ::: I had also checked the Control Panel Add/Remove programs applet but did
not find anything related there.

I thank you for your keen interest. My concerns have been answered. I really
appreciate EAC and it does a superb job!

I'm sorry that my reply had a somewhat harsh tone, but Andre has
worked very hard for many years on Exact Audio Copy, generously making
it available at no charge to all of us. The suggestion that he might
have intentionally included some kind of nefarious "payload" was one
that I felt should be answered in no uncertain terms.

For the benefit of people who inadvertently installed
ebayshortcuts.exe, I will mention that I have seen positive references
to the freeware Revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/).

All of that said, I believe that Andre's decision to include
ebayshortcuts.exe with Exact Audio Copy was not a good one. While it
does not appear to be overtly malicious, it is unlikely to be a
welcome addition to anyone's computer. Perhaps if he were to receive
a few more donations from appreciative users of EAC, he could remove
this adware that gives him a small income stream.

To that end, I am including a link so that those who benefit from
Andre's work can show their appreciation with a Paypal donation:

Fred -- THANK YOU.

I try to register and support the shareware and freeware that I find to
be useful and that I use a lot. EAC is one of those programs. (ISObuster
is another, as is CDwave.)

It's nice to have the paypal links for EAC.

I would like to be able to right-click on a .WAV file and select "edit"
and have the file open in the EAC Wav editor. In order to set this up,
I would need a command line option for EAC to open a Wav file in the Wav
editor. None of the ways I tried worked. Perhaps there are no command
line options for EAC?

Unless there is some special EAC capability of which I am unaware, it
seems preferable to open it in a more full-featured editor like
Audacity, Sound Forge, etc. Audacity is available at no cost and
runs on multiple platforms (Linux, Windows, Mac, etc.). Just a
thought...

I would suggest the free, yet powerful wave (and mp3, etc.) editor Audacity.
You can find it here:

FLAC all the way:
- De facto standard for lossless compression
- Widely supported
- Open source
- Backwards compatible (APE isn't, if I recall correctly)

Other lossless compression schemes might be better (= higher
compression) than FLAC but "lost the arms race" - also, with 1 TB
drives costing less than $80, this is fast becoming a moot point.

Several years ago I started playing around with putting my entire CD
collection on disk. At that time I used APE as it compressed files a
little better than FLAC. I stopped when I realized that disk drives back
then did not have the capacity I needed. I have recently started the
project again and decided to switch to FLAC as it seems it's becoming
the default standard. Not only does EAC come with the FLAC but my audio
player of choice (VLC) also supports FLAC out of the box. Additionally,
several high-end receivers with Ethernet connections and can play FLAC
audio files located on a PC. FLAC also supports tagging and cover art
and APE does not.

EAC inserts album cover art into each FLAC file so that when you create
a playlist of songs from different albums the VLC player displays album
each song came from.
VLC audio player can be had at www.videolan.org

My mistake Ken.
EAC does not insert cover art into each FLAC file. My audio player (VLC)
is getting the album art from the internet each time it plays a song. It
must use an album ID tag inserted in each song by EAC to get the correct
album art.
Sorry for the misinformation.

No, that's not accurate - I can tag and add cover art to my APE files.

I will usually convert anything I receive in APE or SHN format to FLAC.

I don't add album art manually. EAC does this for me when I rip the CD.
It must get the album art from the freedb database when it gets the song
titles then adds it to each audio track. I am using EAC v0.99 prebeta 4
from 23 Jan 2008.

Martin wrote in an earlier email the reasons I support FLAC.

Another is flexibility in converting to other formats. dbPowerAmp's
converter allows one to move from FLAC to just about any other
mainstream format.

Ken,

I have found that other means can manage album art more easily (e.g.
MediaMonkey).

You have to shell out a few $$, but I've been quite pleased with the
capability and flexibility of that program for managing my media archive.

I use both FLAC and MP3.
MP3 for portability (IPODs/ZUNEs/etc) and FLAC for in-home usage.
I direct EAC output to MAREO to create both file sets.
I have used MAREO for over a year now and absolutely love teh combination of
EAC and MAREO.
