FWIW, it looks like I have a demo scheduled for late March, in the
greater San Jose area.

a) Does that include the content at e-Sword-users.org?

b) Have you browsed the videos at YouTube.com that are about e-Sword?

Indeed, but I didn't see the box at the lower left that allows me to
open the Bible reading plan of my choice, as indicated by another poster.

Thanks so much to both of you!

Hi all,

I am asking you all to remember when you were first learning to use E-Sword.

I've been asked to do a demo of the program mid-January. Some people will not be
terribly computer literate.

I've downloaded the training stuff but have yet to look at it.

What features would you have like to see first? What should I not forget to
include? To us "old hands", it's all easy to use but for others maybe not so.

Much appreciate any help you can give. I'm now going to review those training
materials...

Yes but it's complicated. You need a hex editor to open the module since
it is password protected and you hafta know what you're doing. In this
case you would remove the "s" and leave an extra space at the end of the
word so as not to change the length of the file. If you change the
length even by one byte e-sword will no longer open it.

There is but it's extremely complicated. You need a hex editor and you
cannot change the -length- of the module by even one byte. If you do
esword will not open it. You would have to remove the "s" and then
insert a space at the end of the word to maintain exact number of bytes.
Also some hex editors won't work. The one I use is XVI32. Open modules
at own risk; :-) A better method is to just put a remark in personal
notes and leave it be.

Go to Tools/Bible Reading. At the very bottom right of the box that opens,
click on the folder icon and navigate to your C:\Program Files\e-Sword

The ASV text on the web (including the e-Sword module) all have misspellings and
are missing words. Whoever scanned or copied the ASV text didn't proofread it or
something. Every version of the ASV in any format or Bible study program or
online Bible website I've seen has the same errors. The only version I've found
online that seems to be error free is found here:

The simple solution here is to distribute a diff file. It is arguably fair use
- since the text portions are small. There is no alteration to the original
text (until applied by the user) - so it doesn't form a derivative work. All of
which seems in-line with the rights and limitations of a textual work (It is
assumed that I can mark-up my copy of my bible to correct things as

I see fit).

I can't see the reasoning behind this since these modules are only good
for the e-sword gram and they do contain errors. I have found several in
other places... and fixed them using a hex editor. I even changed "red
letter" to blue because I like blue much better. I suppose that might be
considered a "low level" hack job but someone with a lot of hack
knowledge could probably figure out how to "customize" anyway. Yet there

The ASV module is an official e-Sword module and unfortunately it has a lot of
errors.  I don't know if Rick is really interested in fixing those errors.  I've
contacted him about it, but have not gotten any response from him.  I'm sure
he's busy, but one would think that he'd be interested in having as error free
modules as possible for download.

The problem is that whoever digitized the ASV originally didn't proofread it.
And apparently most websites have copied the original digital ASV with all its
errors, because the same errors can be found in most ASVs on the web.

In Christ,
Mike

Most Bible translation modules are password protected, and hence cannot be
altered by anyone who doesn't have the password. This is done to prevent
people from "customizing" the translation to suit their own preferences thus
corrupting it.

That is why I expressed the hope that whoever had made the module would see
these messages and emend the module.

Gooday all;

I probably have an outdated module of the ASV but I have an error in
1Chronicles 1:43 that reads thusly..

1Ch 1:43 Now these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before
there resigned any king over the children of Israel: Bela the son of Beor;
and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

In checking another ASV I see "resigned" is incorrect and should be
"reigned".
Does N E 1 else have this error?

I have it as well. Technically, I suppose, since there reigned no king over
the children of Israel, none had resigned either. But this is definitely a
case where proof reading should have gone deeper than spell checking.
Hopefully the person who created the module will see these messages and
correct it.

1Chronicles 1:43 that reads thusly..

1Ch 1:43 Now these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before
there resigned any king over the children of Israel: Bela the son of Beor;
and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

In checking another ASV I see "resigned" is incorrect and should be "reigned
.
Does N E 1 else have this error?

Honestly, it would be easy (if I had the program) to create the commentary, and
then simply use the converter to upgrade it.

Where can I download the v8 Commentary Creator?

A while back, I downloaded a free utility called Commentary Creator, written by
Chad Gibbons. This utility was useful for Version 8 of e-Sword. If anyone knowns
how to contact Mr. Gibbons, please suggest that he update this useful tool for
e-Sword, 9.xx. Also, could it be placed where all who need it could download it.

God Bless . . .

Dave,
Firstly let me welcome you to this group. Its great you have a fantastic Bible
study program, and trust you will receive an immense of enjoyment from it.

>>>Are there instructions on how to operate this program?<<<

At the e-Sword website on the training page
(http://www.e-sword.net/training.html) you can download all the training videos
or view them online. There is a tutorial manual there also which you can
download. This manual is rather out of date. But because the e-Sword User
Interface is still basically the same, and the tool bars and menu haven't
significantly changed, it is still quite a helpful tutorial to use.

Going back to the training Videos, they are very helpful in learning how you can
some of the basic things such as doing a search, creating a Bible reading plan,
memorizing Scripture, and etc.

I trust this is helpful to you.

Blessings,
Stephen (Php 1:21).

Click "help" in your e-Sword. Click training & you will be taken to the e-Sword
site where you can see demonstrations of how to use the various elements of
e-Sword.

E-Sword 9 is a fairly new version, with several major changes in how things
are done, the best way to learn how to use it is start using it, and ask
questions both here and here http://www.e-sword-users.org/users/ which is
also the largest collection of free modules around.

You will find that the people at users.org are very good at giving help and
answers (as well as being exceptionally friendly.)

e-Sword-users.org has both documentation, and additional resources,
and utility programs.

Thanks Mike!

That was it. I only been running Windows 7 for a week and I only used
Vista for 6 months quite some time back. Been running XP since then.
If I knew about the VirtualStore I forgot about it in the year and a
half since. Kind of breaks the quasi official reason for putting the
files in the Programs folder if Windows will still make some of them
per-user by hiding them in the VirtualStore. Perhaps e-Sword needs to
move them yet again to an approved global location. Or better yet just
let us pick a location for such files!

Of course, putting the files where they belong fixed the MS-Word macros
also. Now all of my converted bibles that were in the VirtualStore and
are now in Program Files show up in the list in Word.

v9 seems to be handling my Khmer Unicode bible very well with the
exception of searching. I'm impressed and sold. (I did have to
manually update the riched20.dll from the archaic v4 to v6 which has
been around for at least a couple of years. Can't understand why
e-Sword uses such an old version that has only partial Unicode /
OpenType support.) Now... if only e-Sword macros worked with xMind
which is where I actually write my sermons and Bible studies...

Guess I need to download cygwin so I can use find.

Thanks again Mike.

Mark

Very frustrating. Took a while to figure out. If Windows 7 is like Vista then
you will probably find those files at C:\Users\<your
name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\e-Sword\. You can go there and
drag-and-drop those files in your C:\Program Files\e-Sword folder and they will
stay there. However, if you use software (e.g. the e-Sword User Module
Conversion Utility) to save files to the C:\Program Files\e-Sword folder, then
those files will again end up in the Virtual Store folder. Hope this helps.
