Hi Raymond...

Assuming you got the OmniRig interface installed at the same time as
Faros, I guess there could be an error of some sort in the FT-2000
driver config file.

What "Exact" symptoms/problems are you seeing? Error message
details, and where they appear, PC or radio etc.

Can you control the radio OK with the OmniRig test Client program?
If not, please check out the radio and PC port settings etc. Once
that works OK, Faros (and others) should have control of your radio
without problem.

What "other programs" work with it OK at the moment? Could be
usefull to know for background and debug purposes.

I don't have a FT-2000, but am rapidly finding my way round OmniRig.

Questions questions etc, but answers needed so we can figure out what
may be the problem.

Hi All.

OK, so who (if anyone?) has had any problems with Faros and it
thinking a soundcard is still in use by another program/application,
when it isn't? (As far as I can find out anyway.)

I have this trouble when running it on a Tosh' Sat' Pro 4600.

The basic spec's for the PC are...
CPU: PIII/700
RAM: 384Meg
Sound: Yamaha AC-XG WDM Audio System,
         based on Intel 82801BA(M) ICH2 - AC'97 Audio controller.

OS: Win2000 Pro, all up-to-date.

It runs Digipan and other soundcard DSP stuff etc very well, and is a
nice machine for rig/shack use, due to the availability of "Real"
serial/parallel ports etc, as well as newer USB holes and network
etc...

On another Win2k PC (with a different sound system) Faros runs it
just fine.

Cheers All..

Happy Crimbo and all that.

Hi Dave:
This has little to do with Faros, but we do alot of digital modes ( mostly
digital sstv, but almost all the others as well) AC97 is the worst sound card (
mostly built onto mother boards) ever... many programs will not even run under
AC97.. A suggestion would be to replace ( just put in a cheap sound blaster
$15.00 usd) and turn off AC97 Sound.. But that just my opinion.. The quality of
the signal will be better and cleaner in and out!!

Hi Garrett...

OK on the AC97 troubles, but it Faros OK on other PC's also with the
AC97 sound system, but yes, they seem to be noisy, but that pales
into insignificance compared to the background noise on HF, even with
narrow (cw) filters. Alex off list said much about the timing needs
of Faros, and that some systems will not do that accuately enough,
end of story, sadly...

For now, I've dug out an old Dell Optiplex mini desktop and will
dedicate that to Faros as time goes by, but there is still lots of
work to do to get that system ready for what I want, but that will
need to be setup for use with VNC etc, as I don't have a spare
keyboard or display, yet..... Pitty, as the shack is not a large
room, and it's quite "tight" in here already.

I can't easily install another soundcard in the Tosh (laptop) unless
it's an expensive PCMCIA card (cost more than the PC is worth, not
cheap over hear in the UK) USB could be an option, but again from
what is said (but I've not yet checked) there are issues with them
too.

I think there is a lot if variation in the various vendors
implementation of the AC97 drivers, some seem very much better/worse
than others, considering that the hardware is much the same, and yes,
it's in one of the VLSI chips on the laptop's main board.

Cheers for now...

Seasons greetings etc.

Dave G0WBX.

Well, I got the key from RegSoft. And I entered it into the
registration box. Everything worked fine.

Guess what? 30 days later, it tells me my trial period is over. TRIAL
PERIOD? I paid for the reg key! It never told me the registration key
did not take! (Not sure why it's not working, I have the original email
with the registration information and the key.) What is going on
here????

I have emailed RegSoft. Anyone else seeing this problem? The other
apps I have (DXAtlas, BandMaster, HamCap) working fine. I found a
previous thread from April of this year indicating that my error is
because of an incorrect registration key. I always assume I am the
cause of the problem, but it's a simple cut-and-paste operation.

ARGH!

     * Anyone have the experience of thinking they registered Ionoprobe,
when the key did not take and it was not until 30 days later that they
made the discovery?
     * Anyone else have problems with their Ionoprobe registration key?

Hi Mark...

I have had a very simialr problem. I would guess that if you had
previously downloaded and installed a "trial version" , it has left
some sort of "cancellation" or "end of trial" file in the computers
registry. Deleting the program and re-installing it as a new
installation does NOT seem to remove or revise this anti-crack "demo
registration" file, which is time sensitive to the very FIRST install
date on that particular computer.

Just for kicks, try installing it on a machine that you are SURE has
NEVER had DX Atlas or IonoProbe trial versions installed.

Regardless of having a good key, I think that previous "Windows
Resitry" trial bug is the cause. I sent an E-mail to the developer a
long itme ago about this, but never got a reply. I gave up with trying
to get the paid version of IONO Probe to work and went to a different
program...

Note that anyone who may have installed the demo and never got the
chance to use or run it, will NOT be able to EVER get a second demo
download to work, I assume for the same reasons; a registry file that
records the FIRST time you download/installed a demo on that computer.

I am not very computer savvy, so my theory may be laughable..but you
are not alone in experience this problem.

Hi Mark,

I have generated the auto-registration files for you and sent them to the
email address that you provided at the time of registration. These files
write the registration keys directly to the Registry so that any
copy-and-paste errors can be avoided.

If the program is properly registered, the name of the registrant is shown
on the caption of the About box, otherwise the number of trial days left is
displayed.

Please note that HamCap is freeware, it does not require registration.

Hi Greg,

Please send me your full name, and I will generate an auto-registration file
for you.

You are correct in thinking that re-installation of the same version of
IonoProbe does not give you another 30 trial days. However, every new
version comes with its own trial period so that you can test the new
functions in that version.

The information about the trial period, expired or not, does not prevent you
from registering the program.

Alex/Gang,

I have notice my computer was not as responsive as it once was. When
checking with the Windows Task Manager it shows IonoProbe.exe using 99
percent of the computer's resources. Double clicking on the taskbar icon no
longer brings up the program.

Reinstalling (over old files) does not cure the problem.
I don't think IonoProbe is conflicting with other programmes or drivers, but
for the life of me I can not seem to isolate the problem.

Ideas anyone?

I originally assumed the first report of this was an isolated problem, but
being intrigued by the second report of this, I just cranked up Ionoprobe on
a decent machine and saw it was taking 50% of the CPU. Usually it requires
almost nothing. I can't imagine what could cause this.

Also, I tried to close the program and couldn't. I had to kill it with task
manager.

I use XP SP2,

Same here. I have disabled IonoProbe until I see a fix from Alex. This

FWIW, I've seen it on versions 1.33 & 1.35, running XP Pro.

I was wondering why my computer was running slow.
After reading these e-mails i tried to fire up IonProbe from the start
menu in task bad and it would not start. I also could nor delete the
Icon for IonProbe either. Starten it from the icon on the Desktop and it
put a second icon in the task bar and I could get the program to run
but, there is no recent data for about a day and I can't download any
new data.

I can delete the second Icon in the task bar but, not the original that
was loaded this morning at start up. IonProbe is also taking over 50% of
my CPU.

Well, I hope everyone could read this message. Sorry for the misspelled
words.
Happens when I get in a hurry and type the wrong word and the spell
checker just knows the word is spelled correct but not that it is the
wrong word.

Same symptoms on my version 1.35 IonoProbe. I also don't have the normal
menu items at the top of the window which allow for manual data
download. All data windows are just blank and greyed out. I run Win XP
Pro with all currently known upgrades.

WOW, am I a glutton for punishment. Tried to open Ionoprobe 1.35 and
experienced the same as everyone else.

I was going to delete IONOPROBE, but instead just opened Windows Task
Manager and opened the Processes tab and ended Ionoprobe.exe

Immediately my system resources increased and my computer started running as
a 3.2 MHz machine should. I am certainly glad that this was brought to my
attention. I couldn't figure out why my computer became so sluggish.

TNX for the heads up on this one. I too await a response from Alex.

Hi Eric,

This happens because of a formatting error in the solar flux forecast data
on the NOAA web site. I have uploaded IonoProbe 1.36 that handles this error
gracefully, please download the new version.

Hi Eric,

This happens because of a formatting error in the solar flux forecast data
on the NOAA web site. I have uploaded IonoProbe 1.36 that handles this error

gracefully, please download the new version.

Hi Mike,

You need a new SSN.dat file for the years beyond 2007. I have just uploaded
such file to http://www.dxatlas.com/Download.asp . Pease download it and
unzip to the HamCap folder.

Egads! The dreaded 2K+8 bug!

but seriously folks, there is a file in the Ham CAP folder titled
SSN.DAT. It ends at December 2007. You can manually add values for
subsequent months, but I have no idea how you decide what the value should
be. If you have Ionoprobe installed, then you can go to the Settings tab
in Ham CAP, click on Ionoprobe, and values will be automagically provided
for this and subsequent months.
