Subject: PREFIX.LST / Callsign parser

Hi there,

As we are currently setting up a club/contest station, one of our main
aims is to attract attention from the public. As a tool to achieving
this, great circle lines will be plotted on a map, between our QTH and
locations where we have made QSOs.

I am almost done writing a small Delphi application to extract calls
from our logs, parse the prefixes and then extract the latitude &
longitude using the prefix lookup component from Alex' homepage before
plotting the GC lines in DX Atlas. I am, however, hitting my head
against a (hard) wall when it comes to resolving a number of
callsigns. Most of them can be easily resolved and located in DX Atlas
using the Ctrl+R function (and, yes, I am indeed using the same
PREFIX.LST file as DX Atlas itself), but a number of callsigns does
NOT resolve using the method provided in the CallParser component. Is
DX Atlas itself using a more sophisticated implementation than the one
shown in CallParser.pas?

Greetings:

I've recently downloaded and installed DX Atlas and Ionoprobe.
Ionoprobe is running in the System Tray. However when I start DX
Atlas, the bottom Indices shows red/User. When I open that dialog box
up, the green "Real-time data from IonoProbe" is already checked. But
when I click Apply and/or OK, the bottom Indices remains red for
User. I've restarted the program as well.

Also, when the bottom Indices dialog box is open, the Sunspot number
shows a notation: "Real-time data not available."

Does anyone have any suggestion(s)?

Tnx, Norm

That was it! All is working well now.

Sorry for the multiple replies. I kept getting a "Page not found"
error in IE.

Thanks,

I am sorry I can't help you with your question, but I wanted to say
I think your idea to provide a map for visitors to your club station
is an excellent idea. If possible, please make your progam available
to others once you are satisfied with it. I'd like to do the same
thing.

Hi, I picked up DXAtlas recently and think its great. I'm having
difficulty getting the "annotate" function to work - or else I'm
mistaking what it should do.......

With 'Active Labels' set on, I get the right click option
for 'annotate' square or pin, and the window comes up etc.....but after
I hit OK, nothing happens when I mouse over the pin or square.

Also, is Annotate simply unavailable to the CQ grid map. Its greyed
out on the right click with CQ grids displayed.

Any help is much appreciated......thanks, David

Hi David,

The Annotate Pin command annotates pins, and the Annotate Square command
adds notes to a grid square. There is no annotation command for CQ zones.
The notes you add stay in the Annotate box and do not show up on the map. To
view them, use the same Annotate command again.

I am a registered DX Atlas user and want to try the Ionoprobe demo,
however after the install, it says the demo period is over and requsts
the registration number. I tried unistalling and re-install, as well
as re-downloading but still get the registration pop-up only.

I had tried a previous demo installation (abt a year ago) but had the
same problem back then and gave up -although it may have been due to
unrelated computer problems which has since been upgraded. I also had
to uninstall my registerd DX Atlas at that same time.

My recent DX Atlas re-install and its registration for works fine.
Has the Ionoprobe demo been withdrawn? BTW ,the total Ionoprobe Demo
runtime never exceeded a few days on the orignal install attempt.

tnx es 73

I am running a registered version of Ionoprobe 1.34 & when I started my PC
this morning I noticed that the data has not updated.

It is showing the last alerts as having been issued 12 hours ago & the next
download due in 2147483647 minutes!

Clicking on the download option just turns the clock to a green tick which
indicates 0 downloads 0 errors.

I have tried closing & restarting the application & rebooting my machine.

The last reports are from the 28th January.

Can anyone advise on this.

Is there an interruption to the downloads or is it an issue with Ionoprobe
itself.

Many thanks

Steve,

I've had this before and it took me some time to figure out what it was.

.I use Norton Internet Security for my antivirus and firewall.and it was
after an automatic firewall update when my problems started.

Basically, I had a significant firewall update in which my firewall rules
were reset to the original settings.in my case a very high setting.and so
nothing was getting in or out.

Solution.manually configure the firewall rule for Ionoprobe.

I then noticed that several other programs were denied access to the
Internet. I simply configured rules for those programs too.

It's certainly worth a look.

Best of luck

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for the tip.

I have in fact reinstalled the application & it is now functioning correctly
with data being downloaded in the normal manner.

That would suggest that something else other than a firewall setting may
have been the cause.

Just as well as I see that minor geomagnetic storms are upon us !

Chris

James,

Thanks for the information.

I think I had better reinstall the application as it looks as if something
has got corrupted.

I do not write software for Linux, sorry.

Hello,

Have you ever considered coding DX Atlas for Linux? I'm a user of the
windows version who has primarily switched to Linux, and I miss the
application.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Alex......what should I expect from this
annotate feature? Should the note appear over the pin/square when I
pass the mouse over it?

Hi David,

The annotation is available only in the Annotation dialog, to see the text
you have to click on the Annotate command again. This function was not in
the initial design, and I was able to implement it only in this partial form
because there was no easy way to add new hints to the existing data
structure..

Hi David,

You can add cities to City.lst using Notepad. The structure of the list file
is described in the FileStru.txt document in the DX Atlas folder. You can
even create multiple city lists and load the desired list via the File /
Load menu command.

Greg, the same 100-plus-character registration key you received in
your DX Atlas purchase confirmation email will work to register
IonoProbe. I recently changed my laptop from Win2K to XP and had to
install DX Atlas and IonoProbe again, and used the original purchase
registration key for both. However, if you purchased them
separately at different times, you would have received two different
registration keys.

When using IonoProbe from a hotel room, I connect via the hotel's WiFi
service. This first requires me to input a username/password which is
supplied by the hotel staff. Once the username/password is verified,
my portable PC has full access to the internet and no more annoying
screens asking me to log on show show up neither in MSIE, Opera or
Firefox.

It does, however, appear that IonoProbe runs into some problems. The
WKHF.txt download, when selected, displays nonsense (that is, the
hotel's login screen) even after I manually select Download > Latest
data. Example is shown below. Any suggestions to solve this problem?

I'm a new user of DX Atlas and Bandmaster. Is it possible to change
the default cluster used by Bandmaster? I would like to only show
spots where the spotter country is K or VE. Since I use AR-User
(Windows interface for AR-Cluster users written by VE7CC), the easiest
way would be to set the Bandmaster cluster to loopback (127.0.0.1). I
tried the "only spotted by neighbors" feature of Bandmaster but I'm
not sure how it functions.

For Morse Runner, would it be a good feature to have the exchange number
have an option to start incrementing at a higher value while in the 'Single
Call' or even the 'Pile Up' run modes?

The reason I ask, is very often I toss my notebook in the car as so I can
busy myself practicing for a few minutes between errands. Also at home I
sometimes play the practice game while filling in a bit of time. The problem
is I now know TT1 in my sleep, numbers over 100 seldom get heard during
these short runs and I sure could use some drill with them.

Is this a good feature to ask Alex for or am I missing something?

73 and thanks to Alex for his addictive Morse Runner programme.

Hi,

I recently downloaded Faros 1.1 and find it excellent. I'll be
purchasing, as, like all Alex's previous s/w, its definitely a keeper.

I'm having one very minor issue: Occasionally I get a Windows error
dialog box stating that Faros could not open error.log in the Faros
program directory. Data is being written to the file is always the same
error e.g.:

2007-02-17 10:53:04 Sound duration error: 7.53 ms
2007-02-17 10:53:14 Sound card OK

If I acknowledge the error, Faros continues to operate happily, but
unfortunately it very occasionally crashes the program if it happens
repeatedly and I'm not around to acknowledge the error message (i.e. the
error dialog boxes begin to stack up).

Running a virtually cleanWindows XP SP2 (installed a week ago) with all
available updates onboard - PC is an Intel P-III 1.7GHz with 256mB RAM

Hi Cormac,

It looks like another application opens the log file occasionally. Are you
by chance running an anti-virus program in the background? If you open the
log in a text editor when Faros is running, this also might cause a problem.

Alex,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Its probably my anti-virus program. I've
only opened the log once to get the information included in my last
mail. I've just added Faros as a trusted process to my AV program-
maybe that'll do the trick... I'll let you know either way...
