Any idea on when Omni-Rig will be able to control the new Icom

Good day,

I'm currently having a problem with HamCap 1.4. I have installed it on a
new PC (WinXP Professional) and it stubbornly refuses to update its .ini
file. Change the antenna from the default dipole to 3el Yagi @ 35 feet
and next time it is launched the antenna is back to default. Also after
running "pre compute maps" shut it down and relaunch later (the same day)
and it doesn't pick up the pre computed maps. Also the check box "plot
path" won't stay unchecked. After a while it did decide to hold my QTH
lat/lon.

Change the HamCap.ini file in Notepad and antenna selection sticks.

Also in DX Atlas 2.25 the old great circle dotted line hangs up for a few
seconds after moving the cursor to a new location resulting in two dotted
lines. I thought this was at first due to my old PC a 700MHz P3 engine
not having the power to cope but the same happens on the new 3+GHz P4.
Version 2.24 is OK.

Regards,

Mike VP8NO

If the ini file is not marked as read-only and does not require privileges
to write to it, HamCap should not have any problems saving its settings.
Make sure that you close the program before you shut down the system, or
HamCap may not have a chance to save the settings.

This problem existed in all previous versions, and I have never been able to
fix it.
Fortunately, it has only aesthetic impact and does not affect program's
accuracy.

You can make OmniRig work with IC-7000 by creating an INI file for this
radio. Please see http://www.dxatlas.com/omnirig for instructions.

G'day,

Further to my comments about HamCap 1.4 not updating the .ini file. I can
shut it down on the PC which is left running and open it up again and hour
later and most of the time the "pre compute maps" data isn't restored and
any changes to the antenna selected are lost. This I think rules out disc
write back delays. Neither have I updated Ionoprobe data in between time.

Ref the lingering path track in DX-Atlas 2.25. For me this hasn't
occurred with prior versions. I have gone back to using 2.24.

IonoProbe 1.3 has been released. This version identifies invalid data
in the input and excludes it from the calculations of Effective SSN.

Can anyone help with this problem? In HamCap 1.4, when I click
on "Settings", the left/right scroll bar, which should be underneath
the boxes in which you enter your longitude and latitude, is almost
squarely over those boxes, preventing me from seeing what's in them or
entering data. I've tried everything I know, and can't figure out how
to reconfigure the box to move the scroll bar. Any ideas?

Hello Doug,

Like Garrett I can not find any scroll bars. My set up appears just as it
does on this web help page:

http://www.voacap.com/hamcap-guide.html

Do the other HamCap screens appear ok?

I tried changing font size to extra large and HamCap works fine. I can not
change my screen resolution to less then 800 x 600 but even at that size it
worked fine. Another suggestion, though a lame one, is to quit the programme
rename the HamCap.ini file and restart the programme.

Like Garrett I am curious, please let us know what you find.

73 Eric..

Hi Doug,

This happens because you have a non-standard system font selected in your
screen settings, or a non-standard DPI. To fix this, right-click on the
Desktop, click on Properties in the popup menu, and make sure that FontSize
is set to Normal on the Appearance tab. Then switch to the Settings tab,
click on the Advanced button and set DPI Setting = Normal Size.

bar in the lat/long windows in Settings. I will uninstall and re-

Hi,

The critical freq is a function of the actual geographical location,
time and date and of the SSN number.

My question: How (what formula or algorithm) does DXAtlas uses to
compute that (critical) frequency? I use Ionoprobe and DXAtlas in live
mode.

Hi Pierre,

DX Atlas uses the IRI-2001 model to estimate the critical frequency of the
F2 layer, foF2. All parameters that you have mentioned are taken into
account. In the live mode, the program additionally fits the model to the
real-time measurements of foF2 reported by the network of ionosonde stations
around the world, and thus captures day-to-day and hour-to-hour variations
of foF2.

Recently, I complained that a scroll bar covered the latitude/longitude
entries in the Settings menu. Several postings said there was no
scroll bar and suggested that I reload the program. VE3NEA advised
that the problem was due to the fact that I use a non-standard DPI
setting, to make the readability of my screen better. Sure enough,
that was the problem. I changed my Windows Display settings back to
the default and the problem went away. I was able to enter the
lat/long in the program and then went back to my old screen settings,
which I prefer for readability. Thanks, Alex.

I have just released Faros, my new automatic NCDXF beacon monitor.

Features:

- continuously monitors 18 NCDXF beacons on five bands;
- automatically detects the presence of the beacon signals, even in
QRM and noise;
- measures the signal-to-noise ratio, the QSB index, and the
propagation delay of the signal;
- automatically identifies long path openings based on the signal
delay;
- has a real-time display of band conditions;
- maintains a long-term history of beacon observations;
- generates signal charts at regular intervals in a form suitable for
Web publishing;
- generates observation logs optimized for automatic analysis.

I purchased BandMaster, DXAtlas and IonoProbe. Installed registration
codes for each of the 3 programs.

IonoProbe continues to tell me that my "trial period has expired" and
asks for the Registration Code. I input the code; it says, "restart

I did an "Add/Remove Programs"; I even deleted the Regedit Key for

Hi Max.
Do you uninstall Internet Explorer, (version 5 or above) at the time your
problems started? I don't think you have to use the browser, just have it
installed. Also, check with Alex but I don't think the Beta version 7 of
I.E. will with IonoProbe.

I have seen no problems with the data at my QTH. For an experiment you could
also see if you can connect to various websites that IonoProbe goes to. The
addresses are found in the 'schedule.ini' file of the program.

Not sure if it matters with this programme, is you time and date correct?

GL - Eric

Hi Garrett,

thanks for checking. I installed Ionoprobe 1.3 again and also checked XP
firewall settings, but... no data.

Hi Eric,

You are correct, IE7 Beta has some kind of incompatibility that makes all
downloads in IonoProbe fail. I am not sure if this is a bug in the beta or
if they have changed the COM interface of the browser. I will try and solve
the problem when the final version of IE7 is released.

You are also right about the date, time, and the time zone on the PC. If one
of these settings is incorrect, IonoProbe may discard downloaded data,
thinking that the indices are too old.

Hi ALL,

many thanks for the hint with IE7b2 which I installed last weekend. I
deinstalled it and the problem is gone. IonoProbe 1.3 is getting data
again!
Thanks again and keep up the good work!
