Hi Zack,

Currently there is no such option. I will see if I can add a Copy to
Clipboard command in the next version of CW Skimmer.

Is there any way to save the text that streams in the bottom of Skimmer?

This week there are a number of historic morse code costal stations (Night
of Nights X http://www.radiomarine.org/non10.html) that will be on the air
and I would like to be able to record some of their transmissions as text.

Thanks

Is there a way to set an audible alarm - horn, maybe, that sounds
when a specific callsign is detected?

Good Idea Zack
and thanks to Alex.

I have a good memory, just way too short!

All:

Ever since purchasing Ionoproble 1.36 I have had this problem and have never
resolved it nor have I been given any explanation as to how I can go about
fixing it.  Problem:

Even though I specify Autodownload, the program never does an autodownload.
NONE of the symbols that are supposed to appear at the bottom right hand side of
the window has EVER appeared.  Yes, I have watched the software during the
period when a download should be available and nothing happens.  In order to get
the latest data, I have to manually dowload it.

Yes, I have also downloaded the "recent", "old", and "reports" data as others
once suggested - still nothing.

I'm running Windows XP SP3 on a Dell Precision M90 (plenty of compute power).

PLEASE, can someone help me?  Alex????

Prior to buying an MKII, I was using LogWindow (logging and rig-control) with
OmniRig. (SCO had the integration done for OmniRig).

Issues with that were:
- not all of the rig functions were available (set mode, freq, up/down, split
on/off worked... but VFO-A, VFO-B, A=B... were greyed-out in the application),
and...
- when selecting a spot in the DXcluster window, the rig always tuned to a
frequency that was 1/100ths kHz lower than the spot selected (for example,
clicking on a spot posted at 10105.2 would tune the rig to 10105.19.
- Whether LW or BandMaster, both had a problem starting OmniRig when those apps
started. It would error out and I'd end up launching OmniRig first... then the
apps.

So I bought an MKII and using the device router and virtual ports. Now, in
addition to the items above:
- When I hit the VFO button on the TS-690S to change from A to B or B to A... my
logging program doesn't change frequency (although it does change mode when a
different mode is used)

So I'm puzzled.

I'm inclined to believe that LW development hasn't really been very good in
recent years. But I'd also like to know that there aren't any hidden secrets
out there about getting MKII and OmniRig properly configured for the Kenwood.

Any comments welcome.

vtnn43e48073

For years I tried off and on to relearn the code but I never kept up with it.
Spent most of my time In the past few years on PSK and most recently on JT64A.

Earlier this year I decided to give Skimmer a try with my Flex-5000A. Because
soundcard modes integrate so well (no interface is needed) with my rig I found
that I was getting 75-95% good copy with CW. Using the waterfall in Skimmer and
the panadapter in my 5000A are killer apps. Also, my rig has a built in CW
program that lets you set up preprogrammed memory keys and also lets you type
via the PC keyboard.

Making radio VISUAL changes everything. And it was not long before I was
spending 100% of my time on CW.

I was amazed how well it would copy even with fairly weak signals. If the copy
was well below 75% I could usually figure out what the other guy was sending
anyway. Once the trial period expired I bought a license for it because I could
not do without it.

The fastest copy I have seen it decode was around 40+ WPM, not that I see much
on the bands faster than that.

Skimmer is used by me in contests but I only use it to increase my DXCC, VUCC
and WAS count. BTW I never submit any scores because it is against the rules and
I am mainly a DX'er anyway.

Lately I have been doing a lot of CW on 6M as there has been a lot of eskip. It
is fascinating to see how quickly signals will appear and just as quickly fade.
And I can see 12khz all at once so lots of times I get to make the contact
before most others would even tune across the DX.

Now I know a lot of CW purists would like to yell at me for using Skimmer,
saying it is somehow "cheating". Is it cheating if you copy CW by ear and use a
word processing program to transcribe the copy? How about using an iambic keyer
or a dedicated CW keyboard? If my radio only uses transistors is that cheating.
After all real radios glow in the dark don't they? Does that mean I need to get
a spark transmitter instead?

Skimmer is just a tool that makes my hobby easier. Just like how my Flex-5000A
is easier to use than Drake twins.

I admire those who can TX 50 wpm per minute with a straight key and copy
everything in their head. However, I am not one of those people. On the other
hand I am now actually spending a lot more time on the radio since I discovered
Skimmer. I find operating CW with it is more interesting than PSK.

Maybe I didnt quite get it, but are you decoding it visually on the

What I mean is since I can see 12khz of spectrum that lets me see a lot of weak
CW signals that I can jump on and make contact with.

Zack,

The fact is CW as a communication method is a dying art. So the more guys that
can find enjoyment in this mode, the better it is for the hobby. Regardless of
what method brings you to the mode - the fact you have found it fun is really
what radio is all about.

I feel the debate around skimmer is nonsense. As you point out, there were
plenty of other game changers before skimmer - and I'm sure there will be after
as well.

Contest scores depend on the honesty and integrity of the individual. But then
again, our use of the band space properly is also self policed. The ham
community in the most part can handle this kind of self-discipline just fine,
thank you...

Welcome to a fantstic and most rewarding part of ham radio. I hope to catch you
on the bottom of the band some time...

[The fact is CW as a communication method is a dying art.] perhaps, but only
because of laziness and whiners. In 1984 as a
semi young novice, I was much better at sending then I am today. Today it can be
a struggle. My joints in both hands, wrists
hurt with age and genuinely fearful I someday might not be able to do something
that is music to my ears.

Pardon me if this has been asked before. I love using Morse Runner and it has
helped me tremendously with receiving calls and info for contests. I'd like to
use Morse Runner to help me improve my skills for when I use paddles.

I know the 'readme' file says you can use a keyer that simulates a keyboard, but
I can't find anything like that advertised by any manufacturers. Perhaps I'm
reading this wrong or perhaps I've not looked at advertisements long enough.

Does anyone know of a keyer or method I can use to connect iambic paddles with
the Morse Runner program? I clearly understand the program can't read any
off-the-wall things I send to it, but is there a keyer that simulates a keyboard
where I can enter the needed data via paddles?

Alex,
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, the reply has only been limited help.
The translator service tells me the page is too busy to be translated. I looked
at the schematic and checked for parts availability. Digi-Key and Mouser do not
carry the IC specified in the schematic. Do you know if anyone has built this
keyer and if so where he obtained the parts. Thanks in advance.

Google's translator will sort-of translate that page, but it is pretty
garbled. Googling the Atmel AT90S2313 yielded a lot of references, but
Atmel's own web site says it has been superseded by the ATtiny 2313.
The rest of the stuff in the schematic looks pretty simple, but of
course the whole story is in the programming of the Atmel.

Hi Frank,

Most of the text on the page explains why the author decided to develop the
keyer, and how the keyer has helped him in the contests. The design is
explained in the first two paragraphs below the schematic. In particular,
the author says that he will send the firmware to anyone on request.

I just downloaded you program CW Skimmer. I am using the 706 MllG with a west
mountain radio USB radio interface. I have radio control Via Hamradio deluxe
but I can not see the the frequency in the uper right corner, nor am I seeing a
water fall when I installed a stereo cable from my speaker out to Mic in of the
laptop. I am running XP pro CPU is 2.19 GHz.
I have everything set up by default and the Com port 3 is the correct,it's the
same one I'm using for the Hamradio Deluxe

Settings

3 kHz radio

rig None
port 3
baud rate 4800
data 8
party None
Stop Bit 2
RTS handshake
DTR High
Poll 500
Time out 4000

Thanks in advance Kc2lsd Cody

Anyone with a functioning .ini file for a TenTec Omni 6 (not Plus) Model 563
that would be willing to share?  Thanks and 73, Chuck AE4O

Hi Cody. You can set up Ham Radio Deluxe to provide a "virtual serial
port" that CW Skimmer can use - the instructions for this are here
http://forums.ham-radio.ch/showpost.php?p=63620&postcount=7
<http://forums.ham-radio.ch/showpost.php?p=63620&postcount=7> This
will enable CW Skimmer to control your radio via Ham Radio Deluxe. I've
done this and it works fine.

Sorry, I can't help with the audio as I don't know the 706 at all.

Hi all,
What is the secret to removing pins from the display.
There is the "Hide" button but I seem to be accumulating pins that can't be
removed under the "Right Click" function.
Add Pin is all I get most times.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Regards
Gary

I noticed that when I installed HamCap, a program called RefManager was also
installed. It has a separate directory and a separate uninstall entry in the
"Add or Remove Programs" listing. I find no information about this program
anywhere. What is its purpose? Thanks!

Hi Joe,

RefManager is part of DX Bulletin Reader that downloads reference data such
as FCC and RAC databases. It is called when the user clicks on the Tools /
Download menu command in the Reader.

As I understand it, Elecraft has made the information available from the K3
regarding the IF shift in use with the different roofing filters as they change.
This was done with a firmware release about a year ago.

If CW Skimmer could read and process that information it would make CW Skimmer a
lot more useful to K3 users.

As it is now, I must stay within one bandwidth/roofing filter range or the
frequencies shown on CW Skimmer are not in sync with the stations I click on.

Hi, I too lost my code for DX Atlas due to a computer crash in January

Hi Tammie,

A simple email to <support@...> will do the job. Just write the
mail and ask for help/support. I got mine the same day.

Hi friends

When i am transmitting, the skimmer sees my signal with on offset of
approx. 610 Hz.

Say i'm replying to someone on 14.020, it will display my CW at 14.020.61

Of course, i'm not working split. The K3 display doesn't change frequency.

Config: K3 + LP-PAN + SKIMMER

Any idea ?

Thanks

I think that is the amount of your Pitch frequency. I also wish that going from
one roofing filter to the other would not ruin the point-and-click vfo
operation.
