Hi Bob,

The format of the web page that lists the callsigns of the contest logs have
changed, and MEdit is unable to parse it. The work around is to save the
calls in a text file, one call per line, and import them in MEdit via the
File / Import Text menu command.

Tnx Alex, for the reply.

That's what I have done already.

I was just wondering if there will be a possible
patch/fix in the future.
That feature was really neat!

Hi everybody,
does anybody (Alex surely!) knows where is stored the needed list?
It happens to me that some spots are marked in RED as if needed, while
they aren't. 1B1AB is always in red and I cannot un-mark, OH0/ happens
the same.

I'm running BandMaster 1.3.

If you mean the country list, it's in the install directory
(C:\Program Files\Afreet\BandMaster on my system) and it's called
"Adif.lst". It's updated via the Tools->DXCC Needed List menu selection.

Entries look like this:

001=+|VE|Canada
003=-|YA|Afghanistan
004=-|3B6|Agalega & St. Brandon
005=+|OH0|Aland Is.
006=+|KL|Alaska
007=+|ZA|Albania

Where the "+" means I have it, and the "-" means I need it.

alot of DXLabs users who would like to be able to interface Skimmer and

Depends what you want to do exactly. You can get spots from Skimmer with
virtually any logging software's Telnet client. If your rig is one that is
controlled by OmniRig, then you can use RigSync by W2RF to enable you to
click on a call or frequency on Skimmer and have it move your radio
there. If you want to have both DXLabs and Skimmer talking to the same
radio at the same time, then you need some sort of COM port
splitter. Recent MicroHam interfaces allow two virtual serial ports per
radio, and eterlogic makes a virtual serial port emulator that does the
same thing in software - some people have reported good results with
it. I'm sure there are other software splitters out there.

The program does not seem to control the radio and cause it to change
frequency. CW Skimmer works well and as I change the frequency in the
program, it controls the radio. Omni-Rig works well and other radio
control programs work without problem too. So, I am stuck. I have used
Faros before with great results but in my current localtion, I have
only a slow dialup connection to the Internet and all time servers
show "Error: Timeout" Could that result in this program?

Pete,
Thanks for the reply. I do have microkeyer and am able to use the
second CAT port. I was really wanting to use only one interface program
and not have to load OmniRig as well. That is why I was hoping for an
interface that would allow that.

Hi Jim..

Yes, Faros does *Need* direct fast access to the time servers.
However, I was not aware that if it couldnt get the accurate time data
it would not drive the radio. Maybe it needs to get a time "fix"
first. By the sound of things, you've got OmniRig working OK. Does
Faros show the radio icon at the bottom left with a red or yellow
background? If so, it's still got some comm's problems.

As to the time server issue...

If you know anyone with detailed Linux experience, there is quite a bit
of info on the web, about building your own GPS locked NTP time server.

One such is here.. http://www.wraith.sf.ca.us/ntp/ But its not for
the feint hearted. However, if you are restricted to dialup internet,
it's probably what you need. Lots of linked info there too, also if
you Google for "GPS NTP server linux" (without the qoutes)

Although there are NTP server and GPS time locking utilities for
Windows, and free too. Windows (especialy the later NT versuons) is
pitiful in its short term time keeping, making (and I've tried this)
using any of the popular NTP tools for windows, naff all use for Faros.
Shame...

All the best.

Hi Alberto,

The Wkdadif.lst and WkdIota.lst files are located in the Documents and

Unfortunately, there is no way to add 1B1 to your DXCC Worked list, because
Northern Cyprus does not count for DXCC and cannot be worked for this award.

Thank you for the reply Dave.

The radio icon is normal until the program sends a command to the
radio. Then it just flashes red for a moment. Not sure why there is a
problem with this. The com port settings are the same for different
applications. I use at least four other different apps for that radio
(Yaesu FT-897) without any problems.

Thanks for the ideas about a GPS but Linux is not really an option
for me with my portable station. What I really need is for an
internal program option to use the internal PC clock while operating
portable and, because of the reduced accuracy, be able to manually
adjust the time. But, if there was a program option to select a GPS
ising a com port and NMEA data format from it, I would jump for it.
Perhaps Alex can add this feature in a upcoming release.

Can you make a filter selection for call sign in Bandmaster? It would
be very useful to only see, for example, K5D DXPedition and not all

Hi Dan,

You cannot filter spots by callsign, but you can achieve the same effect by
marking all countries except KP5 as worked in the needed list. You will also
have to tell Band Master that K5D is Desecheo. To do so, add the following
line to the CallDxcc.lst file:

K5D=KP5

The file is located in Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Afreet\Reference

Dear Alex

I KNOW that I cannot filter by call sign, but can you add this feature
in Bandmaster? I have 299 countries worked and most of the time I do
not see any spots for something I need, so during DXPeditions, I focus
entirely on the DXPed callsign. It is a pain in the arse to do the
steps as you suggested. It would be nice and very convenient to see
only the DXPed callsign.

By the way, I cannot find the following path in my computer "Documents
and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Afreet\Reference"
I have searched for this path and it does not show up in the search.
Same is True if I use Explorer, it is not there.

The K5D Dxpedition has really been a great road test for my station.  I've had a
ball.  My set-up with my Ten-Tec Orion, LP-PAN, CWSkimmer and N4PY software
(for rig control) has made chasing this one a lot of fun!

On SSB the dual receiver control and display in the PowerSDR panadaptor software
enabled me to find the holes and grab the DX.  On CW the chaos on 20 metres was
visual with the CWSkimmer software and I saw a bit of a pattern and finally
slipped in my call.  The smooth interaction of ALL that software (N4PY,
LP-Bridge, CWSkimmer and PowerSDR) and hardware (Ten-Tec Orion, LP-PAN, and an
external sound card) was very satisfying!

Anyway I just wanted to say thanks to Larry (N8LP), Scott (WU2X), Alex (VE3NEA)
and Carl (N4PY) for helping increase the ham radio "fun-ratio" in my shack!

I am not having success setting up Ham Cap. I downloaded the most
recent versions of Ham Cap and VOACAP from the respective web sites.
The VOACAP is version 08.1219W. I assume the Ham Cap is 1.61 but I am
not sure, because when I run Ham Cap I get the following message:

VOACAP v.08.1124W is required for this program to run. Open the VOACAP
download page?

I can't get beyond that point. Does Ham Cap require the older version
of VOACAP or should it work with the latest update? I have tried some
older versions of VOACAP but all of the ones I have tried get me to the
same "error" message when I try to run Ham Cap.

Does anyone have a suggestion I can try?

Thanks,

Paul, I recently made an upgrade to the program and did not encounter
this problem. I am using Win XP if that makes any difference. You might
try deleting the current install of both and retry it, all the way from
downloading the files. It sounds like there may be some corruption some
place to me. Good luck!

Hi Paul,

HamCap was asking for v.08.1124, but you have installed v,08.1219 instead.
No wonder it is still asking for the version it needs.

Thanks,

Paul, W3GQ

Hi,
I'm busy in getting familar with OmniRig. Following the description I
found at http://www.dxatlas.com/omnirig/BetaTest.txt I have to start
the program 'client.exe' to configure the OmniRig. Where can I find
this program?
Thanks in advance and 73 de Eike, DM3ML

Hi Eike,

You need Client.exe only if you have created your own INI file for a new
radio model and want to test it. To configure OmniRig, just run
OmniRig.exe - in most programs that support OmniRig, there is a menu command
that starts OmniRig.exe for you.

Hi Alex,

I guess I misunderstood. The web site at
http://www.dxatlas.com/HamCap/ lists the required software as

"Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP;
VOACAP (a.k.a. itshfbc, a.k.a. hfwin32) v.3.827 OR ABOVE."
(emphasis added.)

I got it working now that I found the proper version of VOACAP.

Hi Paul,

My mistake. I have changed the message in the program but forgot about the
web page. Fixed now.

FYI,

For those interested, the few bugs I had running CW Skimmer under
Vista have all been fixed. I bit the bullet, and downgraded to XP pro
2, and all now works as advertised.

I know some have reported running under Vista without any issues, but
not in my case.

I can now start Skimmer, without first having to manually start Omni-
rig, and without first having to run another program to kick start my
EMU-0202 soundcard.

All is good (except for the 100 bucks I had to pay for XP).

Is it fully functional?

I am trying it out on my K3 with the LP-Pan IF panadapter. It decodes
the code ok but it does not display any callsigns.
