NOAA switched from the GOES11 to GOES14 satellite on December 1. The data
from this satellite was used for the X-ray and Protons plots on the Week tab
in IonoProbe. The updated Schedule.ini file is available on my web site, in
the folder from which IonoProbe automatically downloads the schedule every 5
days. Therefore, most users already have the new schedule, the rest of them
will have it in a couple of days.

Well fellows---I must report mine is working now.
One computer started working on it's own and in
the meantime Alex sent me a new schedule ini
by e-mail that I loaded into this computer by replacing
the original ini and it is now working.

Not being a "Computer Weenie" I have no idea what
that is but--it worked.

Maybe Alex can put it up in the files section or somewhere
and those still having problems can down load and install
the new file.

Thanks for all the replies to my problem and
Thanks to Alex for the fast service.

Thanks Mike.

I'll have to see what is going on. For about the past
2 or 3 days I get the Red "X" in the bottom right corner
when I try to down load the old data and the Yellow
triangle on the recent data. Also get the Red "X"
on the latest data. I may have to reinstall the program again
if it is working for everyone else.

Find a signal on the K3. Just for the example say it is on 14.040. Then set
the
skimmer freq to some freq in the same band. You can even set it to the same
freq
you have the K3 tuned to.... 14.040. The green "window" on the vertical display
should now be set to "040". Also make sure you clicked the START button for
Skimmer. Do you now see the activity light on the IQ flashing quickly instead
of
pulsing? If you do you should see the signal on the skimmer display that you
are
listening to on the K3.

This works fine for me.

thank you Greg,

I replied because it does not work for me; I do indeed see the 3 digits, but
there's no signal to be decoded.
If I then change the skimmer tune frequency to 8830 (Kenwood IF) I do see and
decode the band that is currently selected on the transceiver's VFO. I tried the
same setup with a K3.

I'm obviously doing something wrong, I'm trying to understand the differences to
have mine working as yours.

Can anyone shed a light ?

Thanks

I absolutely do not understand this and I think it is not correct.

When I connect SDR-IQ to my K3 IF output and manually tune skimmer by right
clicking in the freq box and entering ANY freq in the CW portion of the band I
am
on Skimmer correctly shows the last 3 digits of the freq with relation to what
is
being decoded. Decoded calls are sent to the Skimmer Call list with all the
correct frequencies and sent to a loggers bandmap via telnet...also with the
correct frequency. When I click on a spot on the bandmap the station is there
as
expected. I DO NOT set skimmer to the K3's IF.

Barry,

I imagine you connected the SDR-IQ to the IF output of the K3. The only way that
works for me is to "tune" skimmer to the IF frequency, e.g. 8.215 MHz for the
K3. (or 8.83 for a kenwood).

Skimmer works, but the issue is that all skimmer spots will be labeled with the
"wrong" frequency.

Spectravue pulls the VFO frequency via CAT, skimmer doesn't on the SDR-IQ.

I raised the same issue in the SDR-IQ group.

Best Regards

Marco, HB9CAT

Hi Both.

This is just as well mentioned here as anywhere else.

I've been experimenting with the Windows port of NTPD by Meinberg.
Faros works with it quite well, (it's on a seperate PC at the moment.)
NTPD in turn is at the moment taking it's sync data from the 'net.

However, the NTP issues caused by the WAN here (ISP or carrier who
knows!) still causes problems, just that it takes longer for them to
show (and to recover.) But the overall Faros timing behaviour is
slightly improved, just by having another NTP server between it and the
outside world. Different algorithms and filters in software I guess.
I don't know enough to say for sure.

I still plan on getting the Meinberg NTP server to run from a GPS, but
though I've now discovered what I did wrong before, I've yet to "get
enough of the right sort of time" to try it again "the right way".
More news one day.

Idealy, I'd like all that to live on the same physical PC as Faros. As
above. "One day".

Regards.

Hi- My timing marks look nothing like these. I sit on 21.150Mhz beacon and
see it pretty well. Looking forward to some m ore info on Faros and timing.

the images on Google <http://picasaweb.google.com/Faros.VK4> to
include several days of observations of JA2IGY 14MHz in VK4. The
images are at approximately 15 minute intervals. For each of the UTC days in
November, if you change the display to have four images per row, you will
find it easier navigate the data.

Any comments on the data are welcome.

romm, I have had to do this a couple of times.... write a note to Alex,
(the author) and let him know the info he can provide you with the data
to register it. If you do not have his email address, I believe it is on
his website.

Best of luck,

Hi Folks,

I'm planning on using CW Skimmer in CQ WW CW. I use N1MM Logger for rig (K2)
control and logging. What kind of problems can I look forward to if both are
trying to control the K2 through a MicroHAM CW Keyer interface? Will they just
ignore each other or is there gonna be a fight?

thanks in advance.

Appreciate any help with troubleshooting steps for cw skimmer with SDR-IQ

Also, is there any way for skimmer to display the frequency from the K3 like it
does with LP-Pan?

List admin does not allow files, but here's the new NOAA forecast data properly
formatted. You'll need to copy it into a .txt file (i.e. WordPad), then rename

Hi Peter- Well, you be further along with the idea and plan than I. I
loaded Meinberg Windows and have it on my laptop (from where I'm not
working) and running via wireless.

I was trying to connect my other PCs to the Meinberg running on 173.14.27.85
but never could connect. So... I am still looking at how to make Meinberg a
time server.

As for Faros, when I had Meinberg installed on the same machine, and the
Delay (as seen by Faros) was 0 (zero), I lost all my stations that had been
successfully reporting. I have to go back and redo everything to see if I
can still receive stations, but as for now everything is really goofed up.

Ah, the adventures of a Rookie in Time... And I don't even had a Telephone
Booth.

Hi Dave (G0WBX),

I got your data about actions and GPSs. I have too many projects already to
take on something like that. I will stick to the "over the counter" Garmin
18x LVC and put all my effort into the software.

You don't mention what sort of problems you had with NTP - on FreeBSD or
Meinberg NTP on Windows - only that it locks your PC. I assume on Windows
you patched serial.sys to implement serialpps.sys from Dave Harts web site.
Did you get the NTP installs to run as simple secondary servers with the
Internet?

I had absolutely no problems with the Meinberg Windows port - running three
or four copies on different PCs, one with the Garmin ETrex GPS configured.
FreeBDS 7.0 I have downloaded and tried, but I have put it aside for now - I
expect NOT to go with FreeBSD - my experience is with Linux, and I don't
feel inclined to split my efforts. I have not yet tried a PPS GPS on any
system.

I have Ubuntu Linux servers running NTP. My first steps are to rebuild ,and
replace, my existing Linux kernel and get the process correct, and easily
repeatable. Then when I have ironed out all the bugs from that process, I
will connect my Etrex GPS in serial NMEA mode and see if it still functions
as before and run it for a while, then attach the 18x LVC and verify that
works in serial NMEA mode. Then ever so carefully, try to follow the
process for the NTP Type 22 driver, linking it to the Type 20 serial GPS
driver, to implement PPS.

Here <http://wiki.enneenne.com/index.php/LinuxPPS_installation> you will
find details about the LinuxPPS implementation - its been going for a few
years. In September, the people behind it had the code accepted into the
latest Linux kernel, version 2.6.31, making it a lot simpler to get started.
The code used to be in the form of "patches" needing a lot of experience to
get running. This new kernel version is that currently used by Ubuntu 9.10
- and I have already downloaded the complete source code, configured the PPS
parts, and compiled the kernel - for both Ubuntu and the patched kernel
source code from LinuxPPS here
<http://wiki.enneenne.com/index.php/LinuxPPS_installation>. The email
reflector for the group indicates the updated installation documentation,
covering the 2.6.31 kernel code inclusions, is due out at the end of the
November.

That suits me, because that's about when the Garmin 18x LVC should arrive,
and I should be building Linux kernels in my sleep by then.
