Through education, research and partnerships, the Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County Environment and Energy Program empowers individuals and municipal officials to protect and restore the natural resources of Dutchess County. Environment & Energy Program staff provide research-based education, training and tools to increase awareness, knowledge and action on local and regional issues, such as groundwater protection, septic and well maintenance, streams and wetlands, natural resource planning, energy and climate change. We organize regular educational forums and workshops and train local officials to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for more informed land use planning. Staff provide education and support to local municipal officials including members of Conservation Advisory Councils (CACs), the Dutchess County EMC, watershed groups, and members of the public.
