Swing Cats and Kittens!
The summer has arrived! Time to get swinging.
Both The Hep Cat Club (Monday) and Route 66 (Wednesday) continue through out the summer with beginners drop in class at 8.00pm. If you’re wanting to keep a hand in with the Lindy Hop, there will be a drop in class on Mondays in August – details below.
Eimhear traditionally organises a Swing Picnic in St Stephen’s Green over the summer – no date as yet, but bear it in mind. We dance in the band stand, which has a great wooden floor and cover "in case" it rains. In the meantime, we are hoping to dance "al fresco" on Saturday 8th August outside Q Bar – stay tuned for details.
Although we can’t announce anything formally, it’s worth putting the 9th September in your diary for a special Vertical Rhythm Club in an exotic venue……Details will be announced on 12th August at the launch of the Dublin Fringe Festival. If you want you get involved with performing for the event, keep an eye on www.dublindy.com for details. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays in late July and the whole of August.
Another date for your diary is a whopping weekend of dancing in Dublin 11 – 13th September. It’s called a Lindy Exchange, and people from all round the world (no exaggeration!) will be coming to dance in Dublin – you can get involved to make it happen, or just register for your place! Details below.
Ten week courses in Authentic Jazz, Beginners Swing, Improvers and Intermediate Lindy Hop with Jessica start again in late September – you can register now if you are keen! Jamie’s 6 week courses run all summer, and are now in Harcourt Hotel near Harcourt Luas.

The Hep Cat Club is fun, friendly and relaxed with 5 different DJs playing a range of fabulous swing, jazz, jump jive, blues and lounge music from 9pm til 11pm. The cost of the clubs is E8, including Beginners Swing dance class at 8.00pm. You don't need any experience to join, and you can come on your own or with a partner. Each week we start from scratch, taking you through the basic rhythms and showing you some cool moves to get you dancing. There's no need to book your place. Do stay on after the classes to enjoy the social side of learning to dance – have a drink at the bar, enjoy the music, practice your moves. The Hep Cat Club is in the upstairs space of 4 Dame Lane, which runs parallel between Dame Street and Exchequer Street.
Route 66 continues on Wednesday nights in it’s new location – Q Bar on Burgh Quay (on the south side of the Liffey, by O’Connell Bridge). The 8pm beginners class is ideal if you have never learnt to swing dance before – we show you the basics and get you dancing by the end of the class! Jamie and Jessica are your resident DJs.
Lindy Hop classes on Mondays in August
On 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st August there will be a drop in Lindy Hop class at 4 Dame Lane from 7.00pm til 7.50pm. The perfect way to keep your repertoire growing over the summer while there are no 10-week courses. Each week we’ll explore a couple of moves or rhythms. A few people have put requests in already, so let Jessica know if there is anyting that you would like to cover. It's E8 for the class, which includes entry to the Hep Cat Club after. You need to be comfortable with the basics of Lindy Hop (swing out, lindy turn, lindy circle, inside turn, outside turn, texas tommy, tuck turn and charleston should all mean something to you!) – this is NOT a beginners class.
Jamie’s Monday night courses also continue over the summer, with beginners and Improvers 6-week courses. Call Jamie for course dates - 087 6330531. The classes are held in the Harcourt Hotel.

The course will build on technique, rhythm and flair, allowing you to take your dancing to the next level. New shapes, challenging rhythms and practical exercises will make you think about the way you dance ... with a few laughs thrown in!
