Re: [dstar_digital] Time for a new radio!

Matt,

I got involved in D-STAR in the Spring of 2011 when our club put up a
UHF repeater here locally.

There is a little more involved in programming memories for a D-STAR
repeater vs. a conventional analog FM repeater. Because of that I
consider programming software for whatever radio you choose a "must
have" accessory.

I now have both an Icom IC-80AD Hand Held and an ID-880H Mobile. I've
found them both to be very good radios and Icom has programming software
for both of them that is a free download. There is software for
programming the other Icom models too but it is not free.

Our local RACES station has an IC-2820 with the optional D-STAR module.
It is a very nice radio although a bit pricey by the time you purchase
radio, D-STAR module, and programming software.

73,

Tim N9PUZ
