As Senator John Kerry has failed to win the presidency, the situation of the Democratic Party only seems to parallel with the situation in 1992.
After another liberal Democrat from Massachusetts failed to be elected president in 1988, the Democratic Party nominated a centrist southern governor to run for president. This southern governor was Bill Clinton.
Seeing how the situation parallels, the one thing left the Democratic Party needs is a southern governor. This southern governor is Mark R. Warner of Virginia.
Governor of Virginia, and Chairman of both the National Governors Association and chairman of the Southern Governor's Association, Mark Warner is one of the most popular Governors in the South. As a Southern, fiscally conservative and socially progressive Democrat, he is the right man to defeat whoever the Republican nominee in 2008 is. After inheriting a gigantic deficit from Republican mismanagement (Republicans controlled the Governor's house and the General Assembly [State Legislature]) Warner has paid down a significant amount of the debt. Republican, one-party mismanagement in Richmond is also going on in Washington, and Warner is the right man to work with a Republican Legislature to pay down the debt. Like Clinton, he is a young, southern Democrat looking to take away our nation's burdens. Kerry received more votes in Virginia in 2004 than Gore did in 2000, as Warner's popularity because of his fiscal conservative policies and bold vision has helped create an economic boom in Northern Virginia. More Democrats were elected to the Republican dominated General Assembly too.
The only way the Democratic Party is going to take back America is by nominating a candidate who could appeal to all Americans. Governor Mark Warner is that candidate.
