Dog Owners Group Greenpoint On Newtown

This is a group for people living near Newtwn Barge Park or the vicinity of North Greenpoint in Brooklyn, NY. There is at this point not a single enclosed dog run in Northern Greenpoint and the Parks Dept just closed Newtown Barge Park to dogs over the weekend. I'm looking to get maybe 20 or 30 people who are willing to join the group and help organize the creation and management of a dog run in North Greenpoint. Also, I figure it would be a great way to meet my neighbors!

Some further detail on the goals:

1) an enclosed, managed dog run/park in Greenpoint north of Greenpoint Ave and West of McGuinness

2) Start an organized group to represent dog owners needs to the city, such as dealing with off-leash dogs and lax enforcement of pooper scooper laws.

Point 1 is definitely the major emphasis though.

A note on Newtown Barge Park - this is apparently categorized as a Playground and not a park and apparently there is history of dogs being alternatively banned and the re-permitted on various occasions. However, the basic rules about playgrounds is that dogs are never allowed. So, the goal is not to open up this park to dogs, the goal is to get a dog run somewhere. If the city wishes to do it in Newtown Barge Park, that's cool, but it's not the only option.
