I was very sad to hear that "our" Judii had died. The news came as a great
shock to me.

She was very involved with AFHS and her special interest, Mennonite
genealogy.

She was always willing to help our members with advice on any aspect of our
work as family historians. Several years ago, when I was struggling to learn
Paint Shop Pro she came to my house to demonstrate some of its more useful
features. I certainly appreciated her help.

We shall all miss her very much.

So sorry to hear of this. I did not know Judii well (only met her once) but I still feel a sense of loss.

Could someone please let me know if there is something I can post to the website about this? I will not see the obit and am not qualified to write about her myself.

Many thanks.

This information on Judith's passing was an unbelievable shock. On behalf
of the Legacy Users Group and especially myself, I would like to offer are
most sincere condolences to her husband Grant, family members and the
Mennonite Community at large.
Judii was one of the first people I met when I started doing Genealogy
seriously. She had the bubbliest, friendly personality of anyone I have
ever met. We used to get together to solve problems we were having with
Legacy. She was extremely intelligent and willing to help her fellow
genealogists with problems confronting them. She will be greatly missed,
such a terrible loss to all who knew her.

I echo Charlie's message. I met Judii at the FHC at a computer group
meeting. Even though I was a member of AFHS and a computer group meeting
attendee before she was, I found her knowledge of computers as used in
genealogy and the web was very advanced. She soon advanced beyond me in
terms of web development. I had the pleasure of working closely with her on
several projects. I took over her book selling business and later her
instructor's position at U of C re computers in genealogy for seniors. She
was very helpful in getting me up to speed on both of those so I could add
these products/services to my business.

I was very shocked to hear she passed away suddenly at such a young age. I
found a photo of her and a brief notice about her death at

I have recently been doing a project on the early history of the entertainment
industry in Calgary. I have found some names on the 1911 and 1912
Henderson's directories that do not appear on the 1911 census. These names
are some of the 18 names that appear on the July 1911 Charter of Local 212 of
the International Association of Theatrical Employees.

In particular I am missing the following:

W. Hicklin, property man, Lyric Theatre, 635 7 Ave E.
J. H. Silcock, property man, Lyric Theatre, 35 Ramsey Blk.
J. H. Turner, bill poster, Lyric Theatre, 410 4 St E.
T Welch, electrician, 703 4 St E.

I have tried various spellings on the Automated Genealogy website but have not
found them. Has anyone else got any missing people on the 1911 census?

If anyone recognizes those names or any descendants of them, or of the other
14 names listed below, some listed on Henderson's and the 1911 census, and
some who appear to have just disappeared, I would appreciate any information
that you might have.

P. Addington, J. H. Bachman, J. W. Blockley,
F. Brown, Len S. Brown, S. Brown,

Donations to the AFHS Library from July 2010 to May 2011 have been posted on the website at http://afhs.ab.ca/data/afhs_library/docs/Donations-July-2010-May-2011.pdf

The library committee thanks everyone who has donated materials. If your donation has not appeared here or in a past issue of Chinook, let me know. I am in the process of making sure donated items have labels acknowledging them as such.

The materials from the Alberta Historical Society have all been catalogued and are on the shelves as well. The committee plans to create an index of the local history books in our collection.

Duplicates, items which are not appropriate for our library collection and items pulled from our collection are sold to buy new materials. The bookshelf in the basement is currently overflowing with materials for sale.

Come “check out” the library resources soon!

Just a reminder about the next issue of Chinook.  By the way, the July issue will be on its way as soon as the postal workers are back on the job.

The theme for the October issue is Hal of Fame, Walk of Shame. Many of us can find an ancestor that stood out, whether as an upstanding citizen or one with a bit more of a shady side. For this issue, please tell us about any connections you might have to famous or important people, or to black sheep, and how you traced them.

Deadline is August 1st, 2011.

Hello All,

Judy Remple made a website for me and had control of it.  If I wanted any changed made, I had to send the new info to her and she would charge me to make the changes.

Now I am wondering what to do with my site.  I can’t access it to take it off the net or to make any changes.  What have others done?

Thanks
Kathy Kashuba

It depends on what you want your website to do for you.  By that, I mean, is it okay the way it is now, or do you want to work on it further?  Sorry, but I don't even know what your website looks like currently or what Judy was doing for you on the site.  If you can send us the link to the site or the Internet address, some of us could take a look and make some further suggestions if you want.

sorry everyone for the lack of info.  The address is www.members.shaw.ca/kashuba4

It isn’t up to date and I haven’t been doing research for some time.  I do, upon occasion, get an email from someone with one of my sur names.  I don’t know what to do to bring the site up to date.  I would send Judii a gedcom, but even that is a faint memory.  Thanks for any ideas.     Kathy

Ok, that is *your* web space associated with your shaw account.  If you can login to secure.shaw.ca you will get links on the left side.  Click "Internet" then "Manage email and webspace".  That should get you to where you can control the whole web site.  To make changes to the content, you need to login someplace else.  I **thought** that would be kashuba4.shawwebspace.ca/ but that does not exist (error and no option to logon).

If you do not have the passwords needed, you can get them, or get them reset at least, by talking to shaw technical support.  They should be able to tell you where to login as well.  See http://shaw.ca/Contact-Us/ for phone number.
