Tried the Floatcam, sure was a big flop! Picture was very dark,
almost like nightime. They have better success with Mars Rover cams
and  Cassini-Huygens images, HI.

Subject: PTT-setup COM1 error message

Send Email Send Email

Hi all,

I am experimenting to run DigTRX version 2.14D, but I can use
some help from the experts. Reception is no problem.
System used: Atlon 2400+ (2GHz, W2k+SP4, 512 MB Ram)
Problem:
PTT-setup to COM1 (or any other port) results in a message:
"SetCommState function failed (win error code: 87)"
Only option : 'Disable' port, wich means: No TX.

COM1 is port on motherboard. I have installed a dual RS-232
extenderboard, but with same result.
I have searched in de older group postings, also on Technet-site
from MS, but only found info that it has to do with the proper
control of the ports. But no clue about how to solve the problem..
I have tried older versions of DigTRX, with same result.
Other applications (i.e. HRD and Echolink) that can use the same
COM-port for PTT work ok. (But not at the same time)
Anyone got the same error message and offer a solution? Thanks...

73 Joop - PA2JR

Does any other program have the COM port open? Does the COM port
actually exist? (Many new laptops are "legacy free". No COM ports
and no printer ports is part of this "legacy free" "fertilizer.")

If the COM port is not there USB to RS232 adapters exist and can
work. (I am using that for my FT-847 remote control.)

Nope, even if only programm running is DIGTRX, the error occurs.
System is not a laptop but standard PC. Systemboard is an Asrock
K7S8XE that has standard only one rs-232 port.
I use a PCI dual COM-port card for 2 extra comports. (UART 16C550)
All ports (on MB and on PCI-board) produce the same error when
trying to let DigTRX operate the PTT.
Any clues?

Ooohhh kay. I notice it comments about "win error code: 87".
This is what the Microsoft include file says about that error:
==8<--
//
// MessageId: ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER
//
// MessageText:
//
//  The parameter is incorrect.
//
#define ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER          87L    // dderror
==8<--
Ok, what are the parameters setup for the data rate and such?
That error is basically saying that the selected data rate, bits per
character, parity, number of stop bits, handshake mode, or some other
more exotic parameter is conflicting with your hardware. If you are
only running DigiTrx on the serial port you might go to its serial
port configuration settings and set as much of 8 bits per character,
no parity, one stop bit, and no handshaking as you can.

If that does not help we need to dig deeper.

Hi all,
Need to clean my glasses more often (:o) Repeatedly overlooked
the stopbit was at 1,5 in stead of 1. Rest of the params were all
correct. Seems to be the default value for all comports in my system.
Problem now solved and thanks for the help!

Subject: New gotcha discovered with USB<->RS232 adapters
jdow@...
Send Email Send Email

I have recently found and pinned down a new problem for people who
wish to run remote control from "legacy free" machines. Many of the
USB<->RS232 adapters that are for sale do not support anything other
than the basic three wires, ground, RxD, and TxD. They do not handle
the DTR and RTS lines needed by most remote control applications for
their proper function. This will, of course, affect the MMSSTV and
Digital SSTV people as well as the people attempting to run formal
rig remote control or call logging programs.

Before purchasing such a dongle make sure it is one that will work
with an external modem or other devices known to use the flow control
pins. Otherwise you'll find yourself spending $10 on a useless
dongle. Spread this around to the known remote control groups.
It might save some people a modest amount of money and a large
amount of annoyance.

(Sorry if some see this twice. I am sending it to both SSTV groups
I know of on Yahoo.)

I have a USB<->RS232 made by BAFO and it works fine using DTR + RTS setting on DIGTRX.

One problem I had to overcome was that some digimode/SSTV programs only list the COM ports up to a certain number. So I had to change the COM port number for that adapter in the system properties for it to work (make sure that the COM port number is not in use by any device!).

If anyone wants to know more about these adapters, the manufacturer’s website is www.bafo.com .

Expect to find the winoldap memory leakage to be a problem. My 400 MHz
computer with Windows ME can copy SSTV but not Digital. It may be that
it is just not fast enough. I would like to know about system
requirements too, before my talk in Dayton.

Dave,

Been away from the radio gear for awhile and decided to monitor some digital pics today. Was tuning around and found a digital signal but it had like 16 traces in the water fall. Check out different websites and could find anything like this.

Any idea what it is and where I can download a version? Hoping to upgrade from my Ts-520s here soon and then maybe I can try digital pics again.

Sounds like WinDRM which is being used a lot on 7.173 and 14.233. Go to
Dave's website <www.tima.com/~djones> and look for the WinDRM section.

There is also a WinDRM group at Google:

Hi Tom,

With 16 sub-carriers, that would have to be the DigPAL digital SSTV program.
