Hello all,

First of all season greetings from Holland and the best wishes for 2008.

A very long time ago the project site of DIGI_NED went down due to an
ISP change. Now it is back! PE1MEW has build a new site at
http://pe1mew.nl/digi_ned/.

The DIGI_NED portal at http://www.qsl.net/digi_ned/ also redirects to
the new site now.

I als changed http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~pe1dnn/ and added links
the new site.

Kind regards

Henk - PE1DNN

Hi all,

I see on the SAR-APRS yahoogroup there is talk of SAR trackers using a path
of WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2,SAR7-7 so that they get handled OK by the normal digis and
if they are heard by a SAR digi it uses preemptive digipeating on the SAR7-7
path, ignoring the WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2 section of the path.

The 'SAR digis' are likely to be Tracker2 devices used as trackers and digis
simultaneously, carried by other SAR teams, or special digis used only for
SAR purposes.

I'm curious to know how to set up Digi_ned on my laptop to do preemptive
SARn-N digipeating.

73, David ZL3AI.

What version are you using? From:

http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~pe1dnn/Changes.txt

06-05-2007 version 0.3.9
- With the new GCC 4.x compiler a bug in extracting the location surfaced
that was not noticable with older compilers. I have not seen the problem
with DOS or Cygwin either, but is is definately a bug. This was found
by Josh, AB9FT. Thanks Josh for reporting it!

You need to create a set of rules in digi_ned.ini for SARn-N. The sample
rules for SSn-N digipeating may be a good place to start.

Hi again,

my newly compiled digi_ned 0.3.9 has a WX symbol on my Xastir map, I

0.3.8. used to be a D(igi) symbol, but I got that version as a

Hallo,

A lot of APRS pages link to my homepage for the DIGI_NED files, the
PocketAPRS maps of Europe or some THD7 stuff. There always have been 2
addresses to reach the homepages hosted by my povider, via
http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl and via http://home.hetnet.nl.

It looks my provider dropped the first as of February 28 2009, since
that day you get a 404 message instead of the page and I see that all
traffic has vanished.

Please update your links to my page if you want to make it work again,

The portal at http://www.qsl.net/digi_ned/ (pointing to

I don't know if my provider will re-enable
http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl or that it is permanently terminated.

Thanks Henk.
I am using Digi_Ned here in Hoquiam, Washington USA and have been editing the message file that creats objects and sends loal information when queried.  It's a wonderful program Henk and we all enjoy it.  I wish there was an icon for APRS that represented an airport other than the small and large airplane.  One for a small airport and also one for an International airport such as Seattle's SEA-TAC International Airport.  I replaced Ziekenhousen with AIport in the queries menu so the query message A or AI would sent the object "small plane"  (') to show our local airport and it works well.  Thanks again Henk for such a wonderful program as Digi_Ned.  73 David in Hoquian, Wa.

Hi Tom..

I presume you went here...

http://home.hetnet.nl/~pe1dnn/#DIGI_NED

And got this...

The "DIGI_NED floppy 1.3 (0.3.5) self-extracting boot-disk image [400
kB]"

That will download Digiflop.zip.

You then need to extract the contents of that file using winzip or
similar, sounds like you did, as you say something about the
instructions that you'd have read from the included text file.

I put the contents of that zip file in a folder/directory of their own,
and then run Digiflop.exe from a command line (Start, All programs,
Accessories, Command line) at that location, with as you say a formatted
disk in A:, and you should get a bootable disk.

When you start a command line window in XP or 2k, you get what looks
like a DOS screen. Most of the usual DOS commands work OK, so in my
case I extracted the contents of Digiflop.zip to C:\tmp\dned\

I've just tried it here, and even with Windows XP, and a USB Floppy
drive, running the extracted .exe did create a bootable floppy disk just
fine, just that I can't actualy boot from it at the moment, as this PC
does not support booting from USB drives.

Anyway, in the "Command line" window...

I entered the command C:\

Then CD \tmp\dned

I then did a DIR to make sure I was where I expected to be, then just
ran digiflop...

It asked me what drive to recreate the image to, I entered A And it
just did it!

I did all that on a Windows XP laptop, and a with USB Floppy drive,
running the extracted .exe as above does appear to have created a
bootable floppy disk just fine. At least it appears to have, it looks
OK with a DIR, but as above, I can't actualy boot it to be 100% sure,
but I have created Digined boot disks this way in the past, and they all
worked OK.

Perhaps you could give us some more details about the PC you were using,
and what version of DOS or Windows you were using, plus any messages
(error or otherwise) you got while trying all that.

Cheers.

Dave G0WBX.

Hello Tom,

I'm Michael - KG7HQ and run DigiNed for the SEDRO digi on a 1998
vintage windows laptop. After reading the below, the question that
comes to mind is... Are you trying to boot and run from that floppy?
If so, you will require a bootable image installed on it. An example
would be to run the SYS command.

Sys is used to copy the system files from one drive to another drive,
allowing that drive to be bootable, i.e. SYS C: A:

Then all you need is to address the launching of DigiNed from the
autoexec.bat or better yet a separate batch file.

If not, then a fairly simple batch file will do the trick from a
dosprompt. BTW, I use DigiNed from the DOS mode which frees up memory
and seems to be very stable as I only reboot the system once a year to
check out the disk drive.

The SEDRO Digi is my very last Windows computer. When it gives out, I
have a Linux system waiting to go.

If you like to work offline with file and command structure, please
feel free to Email me direct at kg7hq@....

Michael - KG7HQ

Yes, that is what I tried, but it didn't write anything to the floppy.
I am running DOS (5 point something, I'll look tonight) on the 286

The digiflop.exe started, asked for the destination drive, which I entered (A:)
and it seemed to have tried to do something, but the floopy drive didn't spin
and nothing is on the disc when I try a:dir

This is where my trouble starts, after I type in the destination drive, nothing
happens on that drive.

Question...

When you extracted the files from the zip, were did you extract them to?
Folder on local hard drive (correct) or the floppy? (incorrect)

Sorry, but I have to ask... :-)

Also, what is the exact make/model of the 286 machine you're using?
Only ask, as in the dim and distant past I do remember some early 286's
had some strange things set in the bios re floppy drives (swapping A/B,
sector zero protection etc)

Make sure your PC you use to run Digiflop has true 1.44 (High Density!)
floppy drives and that it recognises them as such. (two corner holes,
one with a movable write enable flag)

I know (cos I tried) that Digiflop.exe does not work with 720k
drives.... Even though the image it creates is only 720k in size (I
just looked)... It just sit's there. Sounds sort of similar to your
experience...

Also, the boot files are on there after the creation, so you should not
need to do a SYS command. In fact, that could be counter productive on
some systems.

Cheers.

Dave G0WBX.

Hi Dave,
I extracted the files to the hard drive. Then I ran the .exe. I tried doing the
same on 2 other PC's one running windows 95 and my laptop running XP sp2. I get
the same results, program asks which destination drive and ...... nothing.

The 286 is a Leading Edge D2 something or other, I will post more tonight from
home.

The 3.5 inch drive is 720k/1.44m

Hi Tom,

Once you get it setup and working, you will see how great it runs.

I copied the files to a 8 meg Compact flash card, and I'm using one of
those compact flash to IDE adapters in our local digi here. It has run
24/7 for nearly 2 years and the only trouble I have ever had is once
in a blue moon I will have to reset the tnc as it locks up (maybe
twice a year at the most), but I have never had to reset the pc for
any reason. I'm sure mother nature and/or the electric company has
booted it plenty of times though as I have no ups or battery backup on it.

I'm not sure what causes the tnc lockup but I suspect either a power
outage where the tnc powers on immediately upon restoration, and the
by the time the pc gets all the way up and running and talking to the
tnc, the buffer fills up with traffic? or it's a really quick power
surge and the pc does not reboot, but the tnc just locks up. I'm using
a MFJ tnc with a kiss eprom, so I know it isn't dropping out of kiss
mode.

Here is the digi on findu that runs digi_ned locally:
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=jacktn

Hope you get it running the way you want.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the info. I seem to have solved the disc issue. Discs formatted on my
laptop wouldn't work on my 286. Also thanks to Dave (G0WBX) mentioning the A/B
drive being mishandled by some 286s, I paid more attention to the drives than
the screen, and found the machine kept trying to write to my 5 1/4 inch drive
(a) even when specifying b or even c. Reconfigured my drives to swap the a/b and
behold with a floppy formatted on the reconfigured 286, it worked! Now, I have
to get the com ports reconfigured to talk to the tnc. Gosh this is such fun!
I also need to read up on the settings so I enter things correctly (call sign,
alias, paths etc)
Anyway, I'm making progress thanks to all the help I've received here.

Hello,

Connected to tty...there are 2 tnc.

I need to connect the geografic area's with digi_net; I don't would
digipeat (zone 1 to zone 2) igate, tcp but only APRS trafic (beacons,
messages...)

I have traied new paradigm setup but the result not satisfy me.

Can you help me?

Many thanks.

Digi_ned routes traffic based on a set of flexible and well defined rules.
Think of it as a powerful macro language. You will need to modify the
digi_ned rules to filter and route traffic in the manner that you want for
your situation. I can't tell you how to do it because only you know exactly
what you want it to do, but there are examples in the ini files and the
documentation provided. It will likely take some time and study to grasp how
all of it works, I still don't fully understand it myself. But the more you
work with it and experiment, the more sense it will make.

As for the iGate, you can set it up as per the examples in Henk's
documentation, but I found that it is much simpler to use aprsd in parallel
with Digi_ned. The two programs will happily share the same KISS devices and
seem to play nice together. Currently I am using Xastir in a similar matter
to handle iGate functionality on my digi.

Hi All,

I have a request to all non native english speakers:

the digi_ned website at http://pe1mew.nl/digi_ned has a gui that
supports multiple languages. And with my limited knowledge of foreign
languages i have managed to translate french and german. Hover I did
not succeed in translating in to danish for example.

I am looking for peaople that are willing to translate the following
pages in to their own language:

http://pe1mew.nl/digi_ned/?Welcome
http://pe1mew.nl/digi_ned/?DIGI_NED_Community

I am looking for:
French, to replace te current one
Italian,
german, to replace the current one
portuguese,
Danish,
others that are offered are also welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi..

Would you like that request to also go out on the main APRS-SIG list?
Or have you already posted there too...
