its too close to Millie's disappearance.

a few months waiting for a convenient time for
Tony Benn to perform an opening ceremony.
The idea is to have a vintage bus tour

Cassettes 3 and 4 have almost sold out,
I'm converting them to CDs,
50 minutes music each,
which leaves about 200MB for data,
including the words to the songs,
but theres loads of space left -
have you got any videos or pictures

+(Sunday 24 March 2002 2-5pm: Stonehenge Meet in Glastonbury Assembly Rooms)
'Tribal Voices' is a collective of acoustic musicians,
who want to retain creative autonomy over their work,
much of which aims to promote environmental and social issues.
We want to reach a wide audience and so we are pursuing bookings
for performances at mainstream events as well as organising our own seasonal gatherings.
We are recording audio-tapes, producing a film of our work and building an archive of recorded music.
We also intend to run workshops and educational projects.
We are working towards financial self-sufficiency,
and we intend to support and encourage others involved in similar projects.
We are bound by a belief in nature and community,
with a range of feelings and experiences in common through our relationship with the earth.
Many of us have been inspired by the protest movement and the trend towards revitalising
the traditional seasonal gatherings. It is a multicultural, living tradition,
not bound by mainstream views.
We are a family on the frontiers of something new,
a community of mutual understanding taking collective responsibility for the future.
We are a bunch of dreamers who believe dreams can become manifest
in a world where we are one with all things.
WE ARE A PEOPLE retracing the roots of our ancestors, living a simple and nomadic life close to nature. Many of us travel with horses, donkeys, hand-carts and rickshaws. We are opposed to the environmental damage and desolation made
by so-called progress and development. We have come together to record this music at sacred
and traditional sites across the country, to enact our visions of peace with nature, communal living and freedom of living. We live in open communities, all who come in peace are welcome.
On Sunday 24th March 2002 let's have a Stonehenge Talking Stick Circle. Last year about a dozen of us met in the small room downstairs, mostly the same who meet at Torriano, and chatted in our usual anarchic manner. But with a hundred this wouldnt work. In a Talking Stick Circle we sit in a circle, so everyone can see everyone, and a stick (or feather or broom or chillum..) is passed around the circle, and whoever has the stick talks (or sings, or remains silent...) and we all listen. I want to hear what the people who don't have the loudest voice and the loudest profile have to say. The circle enables this. Short respectful points of information or jokes could be allowed, but concentration can be lost this way, (get the speakers nodded agreement to this).
This year we want the big hall upstairs, a bigger circle, hopefully with Hippies, Travellers, Druids, Pagans, Festivalers, Tourists - no, we're people not labels. I suggested this at a Stonehenge Peace Process meeting and there was a feeling to go for the bigger room upstairs - thousands of us were at Stonehenge June 2001, more could come in June 2002, and the more we discuss and spread consciousness of the many dimensions, desires, beliefs, views and hopes the better chance we have for a successful sunrise gathering (and leaving) in this and future years - we had 14 years of English Heriticage's contraception fences after the Free Festival convoy was ambushed by Thatcher's police in 1985, summers 2000 and 2001 weren't perfect but were a million times better than 1986-1999.
Please circulate details of this meeting, and come. george 07970 378572 george@...

dear friends,
Stonehenge Solstice sunrise is probably Saturday 22nd,
Friday 21st --22nd is the longest night.
Friday is the shortest day.
Saturday the southest sunrise.
I think.
But I did get it wrong in the
September Stonehenge Newsletter-
there is no Saturday 23rd Dec 2001 !
whoooooops.
I'm online with this Dell laptop. Windmill powered.
But only 16 colours/colors - drivers?
I want to write webpages
not debug windows.
And theres candlewax in the mousepad!
Wed19December-in my bus in Wiltshire, tomorrow is it's MOT.
50 - 50 if it passes.
Sometimes the windscreen wipers dont work,
sometimes the front left indicator doesnt work,
I've been gungumming various exhaust leaks
and sometimes it doesnt start.
This time last year plus one day the diff broke.
And in Afghanistan it sounds like
Bin Liner has escaped,
I dont think he's admitted responsibility
for September 11th
which I thought he should've
if he was.
And geocities have been hiding my webpages
====23:32 19/12/2001
(windows notepad / F5)
heres a letter I sent the Stonehenge Newsletter:
Dear Stonehengles,
sorry about my mistoke in our September Newsletter: winter solstice
sunrise is probably Saturday 22nd December, (not 23rd.)
But some argue for Friday 21st sunrise, or sunset - when, if you
stand in the Avenue looking over the Helestone at Stonehenge you'd
see the sun set dead centre over the Stones. Midwinter solstice
sunset is opposite Midsummer solstice sunrise, as can be seen from a
three dimensional model of the planets (if you believe in Kepler's
epicycles)
The builders of Stonenge didn't have digital watches. I think they
stuck sticks in the circular bank in the direction of sunrises and
sunsets. Each morning the stick would be a bit further than the day
before, until one day the direction changed. The stick of the day
before was the furthest, whereat the sun's motion stopped, or stuck,
from the latin 'sol' for sun and 'stickere' to stick. (ish).
I've been cycling up and down the Fosse Way, a long straight track
that was here in Somerset long before the Romans came. There are
wooded hillforts at the heights along it.
The countryside is now the inverse of what it was when the earthworks
were built and the Fosse Way cut: then the low land was wild wooded,
the heights cleared. Perhaps they'd leave some trees for lookouts, or
build their own huge wooden structures, as at Woodhenge, (from
whereup Stonehenge could be seen, (and in which they'd be warm and
dry in Britain's dark wet winters)).
Some classify societies/cultures as somewhere on a line between Law-
>Chaos, Slavery->Freedom, Conservatism->Fashions, but I think of that
line as the base of a triangle at the top of which is Art. The
pyramids were safe tombs for dead kings, St Pauls is a huge dry space
where masses can sing to the glory of their Church, but Stonehenge is
a mystery, a great work of art.

if it were, this would be correct for the 'northest' rise.
This is the reasoning we have been using for 'solstice sunrise' dates.
It is a secular view. Religious groups and perhaps the builders could
have other criteria than 'northest' sunrise. For example many cultures
had ceremonies at the winter solstice to reflect or assist the death
of the old sun/king/god/year (enter priests, fear and negative waves).
They would be interested in the 'southest' sunSET. Then there
might/not
be an inter-regnum non-day (or 2 in a leap year) to make 364 from
365+1/4.
Then they might celebrate the birth of the new sun/king/god/year at
the sunrise, which would no longer be the 'southest'.
> At what latitude is sunrise 12 hours away from astronomical
solstice?
Sunrise is 8.16 at the Stones, ie 11 hrs after sunrise and 13 hrs
before the next (22nd). Sunrise time does vary with latitude. but more
so with longitude.
> North of this latitude solstice sunrise will be Friday,
> south of that latitude solstice sunrise will be saturday.
Hence if solstice were halfway between 2 sunrises, 'northest' is
Friday
east of stones, Saturday west of.
There is no real conundrum, it is due to having a spinning planet with
an arbitary Greenwich meridian and international date line. Any event,
astronomical or otherwise,is perceived as happening at different times
in different places. So Lennon was shot on the 8th Dec in US, but on
9th Dec here.

Agreed that night of 21/22 is 3 seconds longer than 20/21, but it is a
myth that the longest day and night coincide with the solstices, other
than roughly. Parallax and other considerations mean that sunsets
getting later and sunrises getting earlier 9and vice-versa) do not
exactly track each other on the same time curve. As you often say,
they
didn't have digital watches, so that was not the builder's concern.
'Northest' sunrise is 129.382356 deg azimuth on 21st, 129.381810 on
22nd. [clockwise from south]

We discussed the winter solstice date earlier, but looking at my reply
there was garble gorble in a crucial paragraph. 'Northest' sunrise is
Friday. All requoted with correction below:

No, it is 19.18 - 7.18 pm.

> At what latitude is sunrise 12 hours away from astronomical

[CORRECTED PARAGRAPH :] * * * * * * *
Sunrise is 8.16 at the Stones, ie 11 hrs before solstice on 21st,
which
is 13 hrs before the next sunrise (22nd). Sunrise time does vary with

The news is panicking about anthrax powder in the post.

Since 11th September I've been listening to the radio
and not doing much else.
I'm so glad that my pessimism was proved wrong,
the American government have slowed down and thought.
I'm sure there are more terrors ahead, but it could have been worse.
I got a lift to Stonehenge Equinox,
chatted round a fire nearby for a few hours,
then in we went, about a hundred.
The druids were a bit churchy,
I left theri cicle and bimbled around,
then tinwhistled with some drummers.
It was good for me.
This new laptop's working OK,
a shame it hasn't got sound though,
The Tribal voices website needs attention,
and I've promised to work on a multimedia CD.
(A bad workman blames his tools).
I do need help on many of these projects,
I mean we need help,
one thing I learned at Rainbow Circle
is that one person can't do everything.

~~~ American War ~~ Tuesday 18th September 2001 ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've got no telly but last Tuesday mMatt phoned me
and told me about the trouble in New York,
I went and told them next door and we watched on telly
as the first pictures came on of the fire, the second
plane, the Pentagon, the fourth plane - we guessed it'd
been shot down by american 'friendly fire' or the hostages
had fought back.
It could've been worse - they could've targeted a nuclear
power station and killed and cancered tens of thousands of
innocents.
It isn't perhaps so very different than American cruise
missiles killing civilians while they aimed for Serbian TV
propaganda building or a city centre Iraqi military
command centre, or the millions of human tragedies and
betrayals since World War Two in Yalta, Palestine,
Kurdistan, East Timor, Rwanda etcetera. (I spell etcetera
out long because its a very big etcetera).
The victims at the Belgrano and the retreat from Kuwait
were mostly conscripts, whereas the millionaire
capitalists in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon
warriors had chosen that lifestyle rather than eco-Protest.
Firemen, janitors and kids were killed in New York,
its not black and white, Tash or Aslan?
I'm against war, I'm 99% per cent fluffy,
not an eye for an eye or total non-violence
but reserving the right (and duty) to, for example,
assassinate a Hitler. I could've, but I ain't, yet.
Tuesday could've been worse: Arafat's immediate response
was sadness at more killing, empathy for the bereaved:
good man.
And the Yanks have at least paused for a week to think and
find out what's what and who's who, if not why.
It reminds me of times when I've been attacked. The first
consideration is to stop the violence, the second that it
won't flare up again, the third is why?, and how to make
it so it doesn't happen again. I know I've sometimes
failed - but the only absolute defence against ever being
hit again is either to kill everybody, or myself. Neither
would stop all violence. And there's life to be lived,
friends, family, responsibilities, positivisms, art,
music...
The American constitution of Freedom derives from Tom Paine.
Me, I'm closer to Tom Paine than Presidents Bush:
Paine's freedom of ownership of property was of a farmer
living with and improving the land, feeding humanity;
not global capitalism bullying and fixing the system
so the Third World starves whilst this American generation
consumes our planet.
In 1986 in Green CND and the Young Liberals I declared the
Third World War: rich against poor, north against south.
If I'd been at the top of those towers would I have
jumped? My impact could kill a survivor on the ground.
But burning is a terrible death, I remember Roger's
screams that night in London - funny but almost the last
job I was offered was after Wandsworth Eco Village's
cardboard fire (by a fireman!)
I'm for freedom, I'm very liberal, even freedom to do
things I don't like, like talking nonsense and lies and
freedom of speech - so long as it doesn't hurt others too
much. Freedom for women to walk around naked without being
insulted (as once at Rainbow Circle) or executed (as in
Iran). Freedom to dance, freedom to be wrong or silly or
foolish, freedom to drugs, freedom to believe in astrology
or crop circles or God or Allah or Hecate or Irene
or Freud or Marx or Santa or Greenspan.
Freedom to justice - not to be trashed by the police as
almost happened to me. Freedom to trial by jury. But not
freedom to murder - murderers should be locked up until
they're sorry, or something like that: they destroy the
freedom of others to walk down the road; freedom to be
mild.
I probably disagree with some of the above, I've just
typed it fast. I'm sure you'll disagree with something
I've writ - if only because the words will mean something
slightly different to you, depending on where you've heard
them before, on how you use them.
For instance my use of the word 'nonsense' is special,
I'm secretly referring to paedophiles and rumours and
witch hunts and perfidys; but for legal and moral reasons
I shouldn't discuss certain people on the internet.
However let me say for the thousandth time that I'm
against child abuse. I agree with and honour the United
Declarations declaration of the Rights of the Child, I've
got a copy filed somewhere; but truer than that
committee's legalisms is a poem which I hold to my heart
on Children by Kahil Gibran which was read out at our
Kierra's funeral. She was killed in a car crash,
with so many others. But I support the freedom to drive
and to drink alcohol - but not at the same time.
Osama bin Laden has, the radio says, denied having any
part in the attacks of September 11th. I would have
thought that if, as seems likely, he was a part of the
plot, then that as part of his 'holy war' against America
he should have admitted responsibility. That would seem
more honourable to me.
I remember in a pub once with Arthur, (the self-proclaimed
King Arthur of Stonehenge media tart). I argued against
his swearing his oaths on Truth Honour and Justice.
They're all three male rational philosophies. And whilst
I'm generally for them, higher, and above the three, is
love.
Rainbow Circle Summer Camp 2001 report by George: 9/10.
Nine out of ten. (Thursday 6th September 2001)
I left our Flaxley site this Monday.
99.9% of the stuff was in the trailer,
the field was tidy, but I didnt check the woods.
What a great August that was -
it took me back to Wandsworth Eco Village.
But my laptop's broke so I couldnt provide
internet access, sorry.
Last year I arrived at the August camp in week two -
(late due to mechanics and Angel's broken leg
and little Elkie's funeral) - and the
Kids Marquee didnt get put up til week three.
This year there were lots of Kids Marquees.
But there was no Music Marquee or Empty Marquee!
This year at a morning circle I saw some kids
playing with my trolley near the earth mounds
but stayed to say my bit about "No Kids in the
Kitchen or Gate Area" but didnt guess they'd
take it to the steepest drive and crash it
smashing half of Adam's tooth. His mum was
so good and understanding about it but they
had to go home soon because it hurt.
How many told me they'd seen but not acted?
Once at the sandpit I shouted "DONT THROW SAND"
and a little kid got scared and got out and
the kid's teenagers said I was wrong but
after a while they came back and played happily -
my intuition was right - kids liked to feel safe
- "It really hurts, sand in your eyes"
or "What - you want to throw sand
but nobody else can?"
The kids knew the justice of "DONT THROW SAND",
new kids soon learnt ( I wish I had a photo
of the huge sand castle we built one day)
humans are naturally friendly animals,
its grown up longword philosophies like
"justice" and Irene's 'incessant rationality'
that complicates and confuses us grownups.
Unfortunately Maggi Nichols, who invited me
to August 2000's music, couldnt come.
I enjoyed playing music (whistle, flute,
trombone and lights) with Enid,
Ian, Felix, Chrissy, Sess, Olly, Horse,
the drummers and everybody -
I cant remember half of it -
I cant remember 99% of it -
wow it was good wasnt it!
love from [] george
Convoy Sunny (15) died on Tuesday 5th June 2001
on a site in Brighton
in another stupid car accident
(allegedly).
His mum is Diane, his brother is Roger Moon
I remember him as an intelligent cheeky friend.
Please don't go there until the funeral
as the site is full.
I'll update the Stonehenge Campaign homepage
with news as I get it..
Press Release
VIDEO SCREENING EVENT
Tuesday 5th June 2001 Bath
Saturday 9th June 2001 Bristol
"The big stoned gathering"
i-Contact video network ( www.videonetwork.org ) are holding a Summer
Solstice themed evening of radical grassroots activist films on
Tuesday 5th
June 2001, 7.30 pm, at The Hat & Feather, Walcot St, Bath & Saturday
9th
June 8pm at the Cube Microplex, Kings square, Bristol. Admission rate
£3
suggested, although no one will be turned away due to lack of funds
(please
print this). Featuring guest speaker DiceGeorge from the Stonehenge
Campaign
[http://www.dicenews.com/.
· Spirit of the Albion (Richard Philpott 58mins) - Produced in
association
with Britain's 'new age gypsies', Albion is politically, emotionally,
and
spiritually a very moving film, providing a unique insight into the
new
nomads such as the 'peace convoy' and 'Rainbow village' who continue
to be
the object of authoritarian hatred and brutality as they struggle to
re-establish the ancient right to gather for solstice celebrations at
Stonehenge; and search for a end to human exploitation and global
destruction in the forthcoming New Age of our planet.
· Operation Solstice (Solstice films 41mins) - recounts the story of
how 420
people were arrested on 1 June 1985 on their way to Stonehenge to
hold the
11th People's Free Festival. Using video footage, the police radio
log,
photographs and personal testimony to recreate what became known as
the
BATTLE OF THE BEANFIELD, this documentary presents horrifying
evidence of
the semi-military tactics employed by police as they smashed up
travellers'
homes. This portrait provides a good background to what was, at the
time,
the longest running civil case in British legal history when 24
people sued
the police for damages.'
· Short films from Stonehenge 1999 + 2000, + a rare chance to see
footage
from 1995's VE day when the stones were reclaimed by the people.
· i-Contact news round up - includes i-Contact at Mayday + world
premiere of
"Billbored" - the film Channel 4 unsuccessfully tried to censor.
On a bi-monthly basis i-Contact video network will be screening a
series of
short films about the blossoming grass roots activist scene. Many
people
come to us with films for exhibition or distribution, which are widely
ignored by the mainstream media. We have found from experience that
this
works the best in an informal setting, where people can come and
socialise,
and to discuss what they have just seen, alongside the best in DJ'ed
soundz,
audio cut-ups, visuals and guest campaign speakers.
Established in 1997, Bristol based i-Contact is a non-profit making
group
producing and supporting video work that tackles the issues the
mainstream
media ignore. Through i-Contact those wishing to use video come
together
with those who will benefit from it. We are about respecting and
reflecting
the genuine concerns of communities and suggesting ways forward. i-
Contact
wants to make it as easy as possible for anybody to make programmes.
We
advocate genuine public access to TV and individual empowerment
through a
collaborative process. i-Contact brings a fresh approach to media,
communicating with, rather than at, people. By involving those who
know
about and are affected by the issues in the production process,
people are
brought together, skills are transferred and the media is
demystified. We
want anyone to feel able to use video to express his or her concerns
and
visions. Our aim is to exhibit the most current, and up to date films
that
we feel are relevant and newsworthy at the time. Our programming
schedule
is constantly evolving.
=== mayday =============== www.dicenews.com email =====
Tuesday May 1st I started at Ladbroke Grove, off the Monopoly board,
got a bus to Victoria, and sent this email poem from the cybercafe:
Subject: is this mayday karma payday?
Date: Tue, 01 May 2001 11:21:57 +0100
is this mayday karma payday?
the more you give the more you get?
mirror mirror don't forget
we don't hurt kids - we're civilised
(in East Timor it's Genocide).
(But should it be West Timor, havent the killers moved on?)
Then over Westminster Bridge at noon to the Elephant and Castle
(at the top of Old Kent Road). The wondrous
Rinky Dink bicycle powered sound system was there,
and many friends.
A speaker said he isn't 'anti-capitalist' but 'pro-community'.
It was cold and raining.
We took a chance, about 300 of us, set off north - Advance to Pall
Mall?
There were loads of Police - Just Visiting? I ran to the front - it
was a race to the Thames.
I walked to the back - no lost kids -
and followed to where the police were blocking us at a bridge.
About 100 people there - but no Rinky Dink! I phoned - they were at
Waterloo,
surrounded, trapped.
Some dispersed and caught buses and tubes north.
When we found the Dink we were down to about a dozen.
We moved to the riverside.
The Police said they'd arrest us if we went north over a bridge.
Rotherhithe Tunnel? We had a Seventies disco,
then the Dinks went back to Old Kent Road.
Our secret plan was dancing at Speakers corner,
but the Police plan was 'Disrupt and Disperse' south of the river,
and 'Contain and Confront' north of the river.
i remember a huge argument i got into with
rainbow sussana at the rainbow centre
kentish town about where the tent should
go at kingston green fair,
if we'd moved it back a bit then there's have
been a back space for the kids to play
and a front space for our leaflets and drums
and a path along the grass
where there was the year before
but Susssana said NO
IT STAYS WHERE IT IS
where it'd come out the back of the van
the night before and several women agreed
with me secretly that she was domineering
but after a few hours it was too late, the tent
stayed where we'd left it
and being a
man of principle/ grumpy old git
(delete at you will)
I smouldered for months
and didnt even go to pilton or the BGG
with them that year
( but held the fort back in london
until A+ Black Luke + saved us)
and couldnt apologise because i was
in the right,
thus in a hole
eventually i wrote her a letter
in a drunken stoned state like this
and asked her about it a few weeks later
when she said she hadnt read it
aaargh...
it went on and on about the righteousness
of my cause and that but ended with
something corny like 'but i love you'
or something like that -
not that she was my girlfriend or anything
i mean 'love' like , welll.,
its not a word i use much oftenish,
my introverted britishnesss,
but i whouldnt be emailing
this late at night
but then again
im a poet not a politician
"We are oppressed by a feeling of helplessness
in the clutch of blind forces,
forces we have held in check
and made use of for our own purposes,
but which have now got their revenge on us
in a sudden breaking loose.
"Catastrophes in a mine do not affect us in this way;
we are angry and not overwhelmed,
for we know that with better precautions on the part of mine owners
the majority of accidents could be avoided.
"It may be that when we know more we shall have the same feeling
with regard to the sinking of the Titanic.
"It may be these 1,500 lives are a sacrifice to the lust for
quick passages, that it was a short cut across the Atlantic
that found this short cut to death.
"We are told that other transatlantic ships have lately
found many icebergs on their route.
"One may ask, then, why they kept it,
when the danger from submerged peaks is so plain?
"Why have not all ships kept,
and why did not the Titanic keep,
south out of the way of danger?
"The reason is plain:
liners must not get behind their scheduled time.
"If humanly possible, they must get in front of it.
"We withold our opinion until an inquiry has been made,
but if the facts are as we may well suspect,
then the death of 1,500 of our fellows
lies at the shipping company's door".
English Heriticage have promised open free access
The existing Events Team got a vote of confidence
========================= Now Age Radio =========
=========================================================
Dear George, Here is some bumph on us!
Now Age Radio were brought together by producer and multi-instrumentalist
Dave Goodman in 1990. They were pioneers on the ethno-ambient dance scene,
playing at clubs like Megatripolis, Whirligig & Parallel Youniversity, as
well as regularly appearing at Glastonbury Festival and the Big Green
Gathering, using wind, sun and bicycle to power their PA. They have also
toured Japan, where they played on the first Japanese solar-powered stage
at Rainbow 2000 Festival on Mount Fuji. Their new CD "Sound Ideas for the
21st Century" combines ancient ethnic instruments with contemporary
technology, creating music from ambient trance to tribal dance.
=========================================================
On Saturday 24 March there'll be a benefit gig for
Stonehenge Campaign and Tribal Voices.
Then on Sunday a Stonehenge Talking Stick Circle.
Last year about a dozen of us met in the small room downstairs,
mostly the same who meet at Torrianno, and chatted in our usual
anarchic manner. But with a hundred this wouldnt work-
so many of us could talk for an hour.
In a Talking Stick Circle we sit in a circle,
so everyone can see everyone,
and a stick (or feather or broom or chillum..)
is passed around the circle, and whoever has the stick
talks (or remains silent) and we all listen.
I want to hear what the people who dont have the loudest voice
and the loudest profile have to say. The cirlce enables this.
Short respectful points of information or jokes
should be allowed, but concentration can be lost this way,
(get the speakers agreement to this)
This year we want the big hall upstairs, a bigger circle,
hopefully with Hippies, Travellers, Druids, Pagans, Festivalers,
Tourists - no, we're people not labels.
I suggested this at a Stonehenge Peace Process meeting
and there was a feeling to go for the bigger room-
thousands of us were there June 2000, more are expected
in June 2001, and the more we discuss and spread consciousness
of the many dimensions, desires, beliefs, views and hopes
the better chance we have for a successful sunrise gathering
(and leaving) in this and fubut ture years - we had 14 years of
English Heriticage's contraception fences after the Free Festival
convoy was ambushed by Thatcher's police in 1985, summer 2000
wasnt perfect but it was a million times better than 1986-1999.
http://www.geocities.com/soho/9000/glastone.htm
has a poster you can print out.
Please circulate details of this meeting, and come.
Hi, George here typing in my bus in Somerset.
I'm looking for new work and/or projects
for money, love or art.
Stonehenge Solstice Sunrise will be big this June:
but sustainable, repeatable in 2002, 2003?
Rainbow Circle's going Magic Hat this summer:
fairer than tickets, now everyone will contribute.
Or will drongoism bankrupt years of progress?
If this brave and foolish experiment is to work
then we need your help.
Tribal Voices 5 is being recorded in Glastonbury.
New Years Eve @ Aberystwyth, January bimbling around:
ex-girlfriends, musicians, kids, teenagers, hippies,
friends and family old and new. All Right? No,half left..
this aint the best of all possible worlds
and I made several mistakes in January -
lost my phone on a bus, didn't fix my bus diff,
stayed silent when I should have spoke up,
sent an email when maybe I shouldn't have...
Subject: Assembly Rooms agenda etc
Date: 13 January 2001 08:45
Hi George
Here's the Assembly Rooms mail-out,
In October, due to changing goal posts and many other considerations,
the Shareholders voted not to continue working on a £100,000 RDA grant
to repair the roof and to do other essential maintenance on the
building. Having made that decision, we still had to find a way to
ensure these repairs, whilst the decision also implied a major rethink
on the future of the Assembly Rooms.
For this reason, we asked any groups that might have a plan for the
Rooms' use and repair to submit a proposal including a précis of no more
than two sides of an A4 piece of paper. In addition to material
concerning how they want to use the Rooms, we have specifically asked
them to provide information about how they plan to cover the necessary
repairs and other financial commitments, and also, how the Assembly
Rooms would intend to relate to the community at large.
We have received three proposals, and one that we are considering to be
a motion - as it does not actually address any of the things a proposal
requires (what the project would do, how the finances would be covered,
etc.). We enclose copies of this motion and the three précis with this
letter for your perusal.
• Stella Joy's motion to delay the vote until the March AGM.
• The People's Assembly Rooms Group Proposal
• The Goddess Temple Proposal
• The Assembly Rooms Events Team Proposal\
The full proposals should be available on the AR website:
mutually agreed mediators could
talk to all sides of the problems and
for big meetings to resolve. e.g:
Two argued at a camp, left in a huff:
perhaps neither will come next summer;
winter time mediation could help.
Or when something erupts,
rather than a huge immediate circle:
a mediatior could spend a day
========== ON MAGIC HATTERS ============
As a first-year and last-reserve
on the Winter Working Group
I hope I haven't blown it by finally
not abstaining but voting for Magic Hat.
But it was a choice between
my pessimimism, bitter experience,
fears of drongo lunchout parasites;
or of hippy heaven dreams,
of everyone helping as they should.
So I voted for Christmas.
At Nick Kollerstrom's Perihelion party on the night of the 3rd, it was
rumoured that someone had spoken to someone else who had heard from
silence ensued, until ...all of a sudden... news was rushed forward from
digital minutes that indeed on Saturday such had been the gathering
Solstice Call!
As you are probably aware we held open Solstice Celebrations
at Stonehenge in June 2000.
We hope for an even better event this summer -
perhaps we'll even see the sun rise instead of drizzle.
I think it would be really nice to have a large Rainbow Presence
at the Solstice. My vision is to have a chanting circle -
a sacred space, formed by living human beings -
an open and welcoming space, a space which everybody can join,
but which holds the energy of this most sacred time.
Unfortunately, when the Great Goddess distributed her gifts she didn't
think fit to give me the ability to sing either in tune or in time.
Anybody from my Rainbow Sisters and Brothers
who would like to take part in such a chanting circle
please contact me on 0117 955 1852.
Blessed be,
Kasia.
Hi, I'm in London for a few days, visiting friends, computering,
networking, selling and distributing Tribal Voices cassettes,
and Rainbow Circle Winter Working Group meet (discussing whether
to risk doing all next season 'magic hat', and what that means),
and Stonehenge Campaign Meeting and babysitting and playing music..
Then weekend @ Glastonbury, then back to Somerset to MOT my bus.
The weather's wet and windy, the TLIO windmill's charging batteries,
my rain water barrels are full. What I hate is sunburn summers.
I've added some more real audio sounds to my website,
see my homepage for latest news...
'Tribal Voices' is a collective of acoustic musicians,
who want to retain creative autonomy over their work,
much of which aims to promote environmental and social issues.
We want to reach a wide audience and so we are pursuing
We are recording audio-tapes, producing a film of our work
We also intend to run workshops and educational projects.
We are working towards financial self-sufficiency,
We are bound by a belief in nature and community,
=== Tribal Voices ========== www.dicenews.com/tv =====
The Tribal Voices Co-operative has grown
from the magic of the campfire,
from the sense of comradeship we have found,
coming together as one people to fight
against the destruction of our common heritage:
Our sacred sites, hallowed hills and ancient forests
are under constant threat from modern lifestyles,
consumerism, "growth", building, fast cars,
new roads, pollution and destruction.
Gathering the tribes at the head of the Dragon'
on Twyford Down, we made our stand.
Empowered by nature's forces and
a tangible connection with our ancestors -
We focussed on our cause with painted faces,
music and pixie pranks -
We defied the diggers
and the media looked on with interest.
We held the moral ground,
Non-Violent Direct Action was news
at Twyford - M11/London, Solsbury Hill,
Newbury, Fairmile and many other protest camps.
Four years later,
the roads programme has been cut back,
the Government announcing that there will be
no more new roads
and an ever growing army of ordinary folk
who are prepared to say "No"
to the injustices of our society.
We have time to reflect on
the messages we are giving to the public,
to become even more environmentally aware,
to find harmony with nature,
living low impact lifestyles.
We find our true identities.
== Stonehenge Talking Circle @ Glastonbury 25March2001 ==
=========================================================
On Saturday 24 March there'll be a benefit gig for
Stonehenge Campaign and Tribal Voices.
Then on Sunday a Stonehenge Talking Stick Circle.
Last year about a dozen of us met in the small room downstairs,
mostly the same who meet at Torrianno, and chatted in our usual
anarchic manner. But with a hundred this wouldnt work.
In a Talking Stick Circle we sit in a circle,
so everyone can see everyone,
and a stick (or feather or broom or chillum..)
is passed around the circle, and whoever has the stick
talks (or remains silent) and we all listen.
I want to hear what the people who dont have the loudest voice
and the loudest profile have to say. The circle enables this.
Short respectful points of information or jokes
should be allowed, but concentration can be lost this way,
(get the speakers nodded agreement to this)
This year we want the big hall upstairs, a bigger circle,
hopefully with Hippies, Travellers, Druids, Pagans, Festivalers,
Tourists - no, we're people not labels.
I suggested this at a Stonehenge Peace Process meeting
and there was a feeling to go for the bigger room upstairs -
thousands of us were at Stonehenge June 2000, more are expected
in June 2001, and the more we discuss and spread consciousness
of the many dimensions, desires, beliefs, views and hopes
the better chance we have for a successful sunrise gathering
(and leaving) in this and future years - we had 14 years of
English Heriticage's contraception fences after the Free Festival
convoy was ambushed by Thatcher's police in 1985, summer 2000
wasn't perfect but it was a million times better than 1986-1999.
http://www.geocities.com/soho/9000/glastone.htm
has a poster you can print out.
Please circulate details of this meeting, and come.
== Letter From Karelia Thu14Sept2000 ==
June 2000 some of us walked
as a family from London to Stonehenge
(but nobody walked every step).
Then half a night and dawn inside -
it was wet and windy, good, cos
loads more people could have been a
problem clearing the Stones in time
for English Heriticage to open their
turnstiles at 9 a.m. as a-greed ...
Me, I tin-whistled and danced to the
real live drumming - I policed myself.
Starman Bowie at Pilton was great,
but I missed the Wailers, and Big Andy
guitaring after PAIN on Tuesday...
Big Green Gathering Stonehenge
Exhibition bus, and Saturday night
fluting with Stone drummers four hours,
Sunday 12volt DG Lightshow @ RinkyDink
with Nik, ShakShak, + Kangaroo Moon.
Angel broke her leg but Sunch was OK.
Little Elkie got killed by a car:
yet another stupidly sad accident.
Craig + Martine had another baby girl.
2 weeks at Cauldren Camp, babysat +
fluted and lit and sorted 99% of our
Rainbow Circle Politics re: a certain
person's infamous rumours and animus..
Then more dancing at Exodus Fest.
Next year... hang on, there's another
Solstice in December - I want more
Braziers and drums and mutual respect
and love and understanding (not that
I understand half of what's going on
- it's a mad world!)
========= Spirit Children ===============================
Ken Wiwa, son of the murdered activist Ken-Saro Wiwa,
writing of the unexpected death of his brother says:
In many, many ways Tedum's death was the turning point
in my life. Trying to make sense of it, I began to look
into the ways Africans deal with death, and I came to
understand that my little brother was a spirit child.
A spirit child is born and reborn many times, moving
between the spirit world and the real world. When
a spirit child is recalled, he has to go, and thus
spirit children often die in childbirth or at a young
age. Ben Okri's wonderful evocation of childhood, The
Famished Road, tells the story of Azaro Lazarus - a
spirit child who refuses to return to the spirit world
when his time is up.
I got spammed by Brian of the warp, accidentally.
He set up an email discussion list at smartgroups
It automatically sent all messages to everyone on the list.
A dozen of them had automatic replies on.
These 12 replies were forwarded to all thousand of us.
12 of whom automatically replied -
1000 x 12 x 12 x 12 ...
Unfortunately I was in a London cybercafe
So my message was near the front of the warpspam,
coming together as one people to fight
against the destruction of our common heritage:
Our sacred sites, hallowed hills and ancient forests
are under constant threat from modern lifestyles,
consumerism, "growth", building, fast cars,
new roads, pollution and destruction.
Gathering the tribes at the head of the Dragon'
on Twyford Down, we made our stand.
Empowered by nature's forces and
a tangible connection with our ancestors -
We focussed on our cause with painted faces,
music and pixie pranks -
We defied the diggers
and the media looked on with interest.
We held the moral ground,
Non-Violent Direct Action was news
at Twyford - M11/London, Solsbury Hill,
Newbury, Fairmile and many other protest camps.
Four years later,
the roads programme has been cut back,
the Government announcing that there will be
no more new roads
and an ever growing army of ordinary folk
who are prepared to say "No"
to the injustices of our society.
We have time to reflect on
the messages we are giving to the public,
to become even more environmentally aware,
to find harmony with nature,
living low impact lifestyles.
We find our true identities. Clive & Chrissy
== Letter From Karelia Thu14Sept2000 ==
June 2000 some of us walked
as a family from London to Stonehenge
(but nobody walked every step).
Then half a night and dawn inside -
it was wet and windy, good, cos
loads more people could have been a
problem clearing the Stones in time
for English Heriticage to open their
turnstiles at 9 a.m. as a-greed ...
Me, I tin-whistled and danced to the
real live drumming - I policed myself.
Starman Bowie at Pilton was great,
but I missed the Wailers, and Big Andy
guitaring after PAIN on Tuesday...
Big Green Gathering Stonehenge
Exhibition bus, and Saturday night
fluting with Stone drummers four hours,
Sunday 12volt DG Lightshow @ RinkyDink
with Nik, ShakShak, + Kangaroo Moon.
Angel broke her leg but Sunch was OK.
Little Elkie got killed by a car:
yet another stupidly sad accident.
Craig + Martine had another baby girl.
2 weeks at Cauldren Camp, babysat +
fluted and lit and sorted 99% of our
Rainbow Circle Politics re: a certain
person's infamous rumours and animus..
Then more dancing at Exodus Fest.
Next year... hang on, there's another
Solstice in December - I want more
Braziers and drums and mutual respect
and love and understanding (not that
I understand half of what's going on
- it's a mad world!)
========= Spirit Children ===============================
Ken Wiwa, son of the murdered activist Ken-Saro Wiwa,
writing of the unexpected death of his brother says:
In many, many ways Tedum's death was the turning point
in my life. Trying to make sense of it, I began to look
into the ways Africans deal with death, and I came to
understand that my little brother was a spirit child.
A spirit child is born and reborn many times, moving
between the spirit world and the real world. When
a spirit child is recalled, he has to go, and thus
spirit children often die in childbirth or at a young
age. Ben Okri's wonderful evocation of childhood, The
Famished Road, tells the story of Azaro Lazarus - a
spirit child who refuses to return to the spirit world
when his time is up.
=== warpspam =============== www.dicenews.com email =====
=========================================================
I got spammed by Brian of the warp, accidentally.
He set up an email discussion list at smartgroups
and subscribed a thousand of us onto it.
It automatically sent all messages to everyone on the list.
A dozen of them had automatic replies on.
These 12 replies were forwarded to all thousand of us.
12 of whom automatically replied -
1000 x 12 x 12 x 12 ...
Unfortunately I was in a London cybercafe
when he subscribed me, and sent a hello message.
So my message was near the front of the warpspam,
(and got echoed and echoed automatically as above)
Some people thought it was my fault ..
and spammed me in revenge.
Gandhi said "An eye for an eye and the world will be blind".
To stop such warpspam I registered with
http://www.smartgroups.com
and change email delivery to DIGEST or WEBONLY.
