Stemnitsa, Arcadia, and internet and art space GazonRouge, Athens 20-28 July 2003
During the course of the workshop, from 20 - 25 July 2003, a team of 15 Architecture and Fine Arts students, and artists Dimos Dimitriou, Panos Kouros and Vanta Halyvopoulou, will settle in the village of Stemnitsa in Peloponnese and will be working towards the critical reproduction of elements of landscape in the wider region of Gortynia. Movement on foot or by car, the tiredness of the body traversing the landscape, discussion with residents of the village, participation in local customs, e.g. eating, life habits, attendance in accidental discussions in cafes, collection of opinions on the conditions of place, will be the direct personal media that will be used for the reproduction. Each day, all collected elements - files (texts, drawings, photographs, interviews, videos, sounds of the village, sounds of landscape, etc.) will be published in the internet. Files will be available to remote participants for further processing, criticism, and open discussion. Other persons and teams, remote and without direct involvement with the in-situ work, will process data, in-forming it with criticism, juxtaposition, production of work, etc. Some of the relevent issues and questions opened here are: * the criticism on representation and media, * the relation of local and remote transnationality, * the remote via internet relations of small places, * the exchange and enrichment of knowledge between distant communities, * the recognition for one more time that local mnemonic knowledge produces personality and place, * the criticism of concepts that produce place and personality, ...
