1st Kandy scouts' Centennial kick-off

'RISGO Centennial 2013' the centenary celebrations of the 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group of Dharmaraja College, Kandy which was formed in the 1913 with the guidance of late Mr. J. H. de Saram, the first native Sinhalese Chief Scout Commissioner of Ceylon, after the birth of the Boy Scout Movement in 1907 in the Brownsea Island, England, will kick-off at the Scout Parents' Day on December 17th at the Dharmaraja auditorium at 3.00 p.m.

To mark the centenary celebrations of the 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group which won the award for `Best Scout Group in Sri Lanka' in 2009 and for many consecutive years, organised the International Scout Jamboree `RISGO Centennial 2013', with the island's first old scout union, Old Rajans Scout Association in grand style.

B.S.B Karunathilaka, Rover scout from 1st Kandy Dharmaraja scout Group will be heading to Adelaide, Australia to participate at the 18th Australian National Rover Moot under the invitation of the Australian Scout Association commencing from the 26th December 2010 to 12th January 2011. He will be participating the event as the only Sri Lankan representative. He has won the Presidents Scout award in 2003 and the B.P award in 2006, becoming the only B.P Award winner in Sri Lanka in year 2006. He was also the team leader of the Himalayan expedition team 2007 which reached Mount Everest base camp (5360 m) and the summit of mount kalapathar (5545m) of the Himalayan range in Nepal.

Pirith Chanting on 8^th Jan

Keeping with the convention of starting the calender year with the blessings of Dhamma, both ORSA and 1^st Kandy Dharmaraja Scouts group jointly organized a Pirith Chanting Ceremony and a Arms giving to Maha Sanga.

Weather evil failed to avoid us being having the Pirith Chanting at our own Den. The Pirith Chanting Ceremony was held on 8^th Saturday to demolish bad evils and to get good blessings for the upcoming year.

The Principal Mr.S.M. Keerthirathna, Group Scout Leader Mr. Manjula Wijesiriwardena, members of ORSA and Scouts from the 1^st Kandy Scout Group were present at the event.

Arms Giving on 9^th Jan

Although weather evil was defeated previous day, it had partial win on following day by forcing us to move the Arms giving from the Den to Sri Sangarajah Piriwana.

The event was very well organized by the main organizer Mr. Asitha Edirisooriya and the Scout group.
