Subject: Walk in Peace - Sunday 6th December

'As human beings we long for peace. Every day of our lives a war is being waged
somewhere in the world, communities destroyed and lives shattered. The terrible
conflicts that continue to devastate our world we see reflected in a microcosmic
way in our own minds, hearts and relationships. We struggle with our
adversaries, live in fear of our enemies, compete with our colleagues and
disdain and reject aspects of our own minds and hearts. A life without peace is
a painful, agitated and fearful life.
To deepen as human beings and to live with integrity and compasssion, we need to
discover the source of peace within our own hearts' Christina Feldman.

Come and spend an hour with us this Sunday, cultivating peace in our hearts with
every step we take, in a slow, silent walk for peace in peace. We'll meet as
usual by the Speakers Corner cafe, just south of Speakers Corner, Hyde Park at
11.00am.
See you there
Beatrice

*AIDS Support Retreat in South Africa, 3 - 17 April, 2010*

The hills of rural KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, are an area of great
poverty. The HIV/Aids infection rate is nearly 40% and many people of the
local community are dying. In response to this crisis Khupuka was founded in
2009.

Following our successful and heart opening retreat in South Africa in 2008,
we will be returning for a second work and service retreat. This retreat
will provide practical support to the Khuphuka Project who are offering
community care and support programmes serving HIV/ AIDS affected.

We will spend 2 weeks with the rural communities who are facing huge
difficulties from high HIV infection rates as well as high levels of
unemployment. Many families in these areas live close to starvation and many
orphans and children are ‘at risk’. Each day of the work retreat will be
framed with meditations and include time to process and discuss our
experience.

For more information and registration for the work retreat
www.sanghaseva.org/registration_forms/khuphuka_2010.htm

If you feel touched by this retreat but cannot participate yourself, you can
financially support the Khuphuka project or help others to participate in
the retreat. Please visit www.sanghaseva.org/info/Khuphuka_donation.htm
*Reforestation Work Week in Scotland, 27 March to 3 April, 2010*

This will be our sixth retreat in cooperation with Trees for Life, a
Scottish charity committed to forest conservation.

We will spend a week in the ancient Caledonian forest of northern Scotland
exploring the dharma, practicing simplicity and working together on the
land.
This involves around 6 hours a day of tree planting. This is a great
opportunity to make a difference to Scotland's degraded environment through
working in some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Highlands.
We see this time as an experiment of practising the dharma in action, using
our daily life experiences to explore the dharma together.

Dear friends

As you will probably have heard by now, a group of us intend to bring a dharma
presence to the upcoming climate talks in Copenhagen. (also see
sanghaseva.org.uk) Unfortunately one of our party has had to drop out meaning
that we have one spare train ticket.

The ticket leaves from London on 11th December, late afternoon, returning on
13th December, around lunchtime. (Full details available on request). It costs
£250. There may be some sponsorship money available for those who need
assistance to cover the costs.

It would be great if you would like to join us!

Enquiries to abbiemead@....

Warm wishes

There's a big 'Stop the War' March next Saturday 24th October, starting
in Hyde Park, so some people from Walk in Peace will be meeting at
Speakers Corner café, Hyde Park at 12.00 to go together on the March.
Please do come along.
Unfortunately I'm booked on a workshop for that day so won't be there -
but will be with you in spirit!
Peace and love

we dedicate an hour of our lives to focus totally on peace - inner peace and
outer peace - both so crucial for our well-being.
Meet as usual at 11.00am, Speakers Corner, Hyde Park.

Dear all

As you may already know, we plan to bring a dharma presence to the upcoming
climate change conference in Copenhagen, and you are invited. We feel that this
is an event of immense importance and wish to bring a prayer for compassion and
wise action.

For more information, see: http://www.sanghaseva.org/comingup.htm

Some of us are still in need of accommodation for the one night we will stay in
Copenhagen (sat 12th December). Prices are high and there are almost no beds
still available. In the spirit of our sangha coming together, we wanted to
spread the word, to see if anyone could offer a bed or a sofa of even just a
floor space in Copenhagen for that one night. This would be very much
appreciated. So, if any of you have friends, family or friends of friends who
live in Copenhagen, maybe you could let us know. You could contact Abbie on
abbiemead@....

Much love to each of you

A Dharma Presence at the Climate talks in Copenhagen,
December 11th-13th 2009

A Time to Engage?
In December, the UN Climate Change Conference takes place in Copenhagen. Climate
scientists are increasingly of the opinion that we are imminently reaching a
‘tipping point’ before which we must introduce strong measures to
drastically reduce CO2 emissions in order to avert a global tragedy. This is
perhaps the most important international meeting ever held.

A Dharma Response, A Dharma Presence
On the weekend of December 11th-13th 2009, we are travelling by train to
Copenhagen to be part of a Dharma presence on the streets there while the
climate conference is taking place. We hope that as many people as possible will
join together on Saturday 12th December 2009 to be a visible and peaceful prayer
of care for the planet, for wakefulness, and for world-wide environmental
justice. As part of the demonstrations in Copenhagen that weekend we will be
there to ask world leaders to see and choose with foresight, wisdom and true
compassion. And to encourage them to agree on a truly far-reaching, ambitious
and binding global climate deal. A deal that really responds adequately to the
scale of the emergency now facing not just our human civilisation, but the earth
and all the life it supports.

Our Responsibility
Change will not come unless we take the responsibility and the lead, and it is
this personal responsibility and care that would be demonstrated by standing up
in Copenhagen; an acknowledgement that only through each and every one of us
walking the walk will the necessary global changes become a reality. We believe
that at this time we have a responsibility as practitioners to bear witness to,
and actively engage with, such issues of global significance. We invite those
who feel the same to join us.

'To be truly radical is to make hope possible rather than despair convincing'
Raymond Williams.

Come and be truly radical this Sunday, 4th October, with a group of people who
wish to create peace in every step they take, meeting, as usual, at Speakers
Corner at 11.00am. I believe Marble Arch tube station is currently closed, so
those of you who come by tube will need to find another route.
I noticed that there was an Interfaith Walk for Peace yesterday in Islington,
which I couldn't attend, but was delighted to know that it was happening. Just
imagine when the majority of us regularly take time to walk for peace - what a
lovely impact that might have on the the energy in the world.....

Dear friends,

We wanted to let you know about our 6th annual work and meditation retreat in
the remarkable leprosy community of Anandwan. The place is probably too much to
put into words.

We feel it is a life changing place.

Anandwan (literally "Forest of Bliss") is a village-size project in central
India that is home to people of various physical abilities, mostly outcasts.
From cured leprosy affected, visually and audibly impaired, physically
challenged and orphans, no one there can be called disabled, as all are living a
full and active life.

These amazing people and their beautiful home make a wonderful model of a
sustainable and loving future. On the retreat we will be working alongside the
residents, creating friendships beyond language, caste, and physical ability.
There will also be time for meditations, group sharings and processing.

We also offer a 7 day meditation retreat before the work
retreat. You are welcome to come to either one or both.

Please note that the dates have changed since we last mailed you.

If you would like to know more about the retreats, go to
www.sanghaseva.org/comingup.htm
Or if you know someone who would be interested in this retreat please let them
know.

Love
  Nathan and Zohar

Dear Sitting Group:
We at the Nirodha Trust -- a non-profit Buddhist organization dedicated to
making widely available the teachings of the Buddha as preserved in the Pali
Canon (http://www.nirodhatrust.org) -- would like to share with your sitting
group two special opportunities – our January 2010 Pilgrimage Retreat Tour to
Sri Lanka, and our free online school of Dhamma. Taught by Dhammaruwan himself,
these opportunities are very unusual, of the utmost quality and integrity, and
with the earnest and heartfelt aim of spreading the Dhamma. If, after reading
this announcement, you'd like more information, please contact Richard Branca at
Richard_Branca@..., or Dhammaruwan at office@....

· Pilgrimage Retreat Tour to Sri Lanka (January 2010)
http://www.nirodhatrust.org/Retreat_Tour/Home.html
Experience the life of a pilgrim, meditating where the Buddha taught and where
thousands of enlightened monks practiced in the fifth century. Relive times
dating back to 247 BC, when Dhamma practice was truly eminent in society.
Traversing traditional and holy sites that have been carefully selected to
enhance the practice, this 10-day mobile retreat with noted Sri Lankan teacher
Dhammaruwan will acquaint you with sacred sites rarely accessible to outsiders.
Open-air sittings on ancient sites will be held morning and evening, accompanied
by daily dharma talks. Each Dhamma talk will focus on a sutta or element of the
Dhamma which is embedded in the historic significance of the place of visit. The
10-day mobile retreat will be followed by an additional opportunity for a
separate residential retreat, for those interested.

Joseph Goldstein, Co-Founder of IMS and author of numerous publications
including the book One Dharma, recommends this Pilgrimage Retreat Tour, stating:

“I can think of no better way to explore the wonders of Sri Lanka -- both its
natural beauty and the teachings of the Buddha -- than this tour with
Dhammaruwan. His extensive knowledge of the island and his deep meditative
understanding will make this a memorable journey.”

· Our Online School of Dhamma
This opportunity includes Sutta study courses, Pali courses, and a planned
Abidhamma course (all free of charge).

· For More Information
For more information about the Pilgrimage Retreat Tour please see our website
http://www.nirodhatrust.org/Retreat_Tour/Home.html or contact Richard Branca at
Richard_Branca@..., or Dhammaruwan at office@... . If
you would prefer to speak by phone, simply email Richard your phone number and
some good times to call and he will call you.

About the Teacher -- Dhammaruwan

Dhammaruwan teaches in keeping with the teachings of the historical Gotama
Buddha. His teachings conform to the Tipitaka of the Pali Canon and help create
a deeper and clearer experience of what the Buddha taught. His teachings are
directed towards bringing the yogi into a committed and stable quest for
ultimate liberation by entering the Noble Eight-Fold Path, practicing Mindful
Reflection, and using Samadhi meditation to create the indispensable balance
needed in leading a truly Dhamma life.

Born in Sri Lanka, Dhammaruwan began practicing meditation (Samadhi and
Vipassana) in his early childhood, and now has over 30 years of meditation
experience and eight years of international teaching experience. He underwent
teacher training under Bhante Gunaratana and participated in Barre Insight
Meditation Society's Professional Teacher Training Program in 2000. He has
undergone training in most of the meditation traditions of all major Theravaada
countries.

From the age of about two, before he could read or write, Dhammaruwan
spontaneously started to chant the ancient Buddhist scriptures in the original
pali language, known only to a few scholar monks. Dhammaruwan's foster father
made some amateur recordings of the chanting and invited prominent scholar monks
to listen. The monks verified that it was indeed the ancient pali language and
the boy was chanting it in an ancient style which no longer existed in world.

Silent meditation retreat Dec3-13
Anandwan work retreat Dec14- January 3

Dear friends,

We will be offering our 6th annual work and meditation retreat in the remarkable
leprosy community of Anandwan. Anandwan (literally "Forest of Bliss") is a
village size project in central India that sustains people of various physical
abilities. Including cured leprosy affected, visually and audibly impaired,
physically challenged and orphans. Although no one there can be called disabled,
as most, if not all, are living a full and active life.
This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with amazing people in beautiful
surroundings. We will be working alongside the residents, creating friendships
beyond language, caste, and physical ability.
There will also be time for meditations, group sharings and processing.

We also offer a 10 day meditation retreat before the work retreat. You are
welcome to come to either one or both.

If you would like to know more about the retreats, go to www.sanghaseva.org

Love Nathan and Zohar

Bonjour

Hi
everybody

The 9th
yatra is getting ready. We know the path. It will join Saint Jean de Cole to
Cubjac between July 30th and august 9th

The meeting point
is in Thiviers (on the train line between Limoges and Périgueux – if you fly,
Limoges is the best). It will be possible to park the cars in Thiviers and then
to join the camp with one of the vans or walking a green track.

We are receiving
registrations nearly every day. It’s not full yet but the number of
participants is limited and it would be better for us to know how many we’ll be
as soon as possible. If you plan to come and you didn’t register yet, please
register as soon as possible. The registration file and all the details are on
the website www.dharmayatra.org.

If you feel like
driving one of the trucks, please send a colour copy –a scan is ok) of your
driving licence now.

If you feel ready
to get involved in organising the site or the kitchen, please, tell us, it can
make things easier.

Anyway, have a
nice summer

See you

The Yatra team

Tuesday June 30th to tuesday July 7th 2009

This 8 day course on insight meditation is based on the way as taught in the
Burmese Satipatthana Vipassana meditation method. It involves moment-to-moment

is at 5 am and continues with alternate hourly sitting and walking sessions.
Regular interviews will be given to check up on one's progress and technique. An
hourly session on loving-kindness meditation is included at the end of each day.
This retreat will follow the traditional practice of not eating after mid-day
(soup/fruit can be supplied for those that have the medical need to eat in the
evenings)

The course is suitable for both beginners and veterans.

Retaite de méditation Vipassana avec Visu

Du mardi 30 juin au mardi 7 juillet 2009

Maison du Dharma - the Dharmahouse

Dear Sangha friends,

many of you met the Burmese monk Ashin Pannasiri at the Dhamma events
in Sarnath and in Sattal this year.

For those who don't know him yet: Panna lives as a refugee in Delhi now trying
to support his fellow brothers and sisters in the Burmese freedom struggle in
peaceful ways.

In order to stay in touch with you and to share his future plans and activities
he will post a message on Dharmanetwork every now and then.

I hope you can accept this use of this network adress.

Please feel free to answer, inquire or give feed-back.
You can visit him in his recently consecrated monastery in Delhi.
I hope and think that he will visit the upcoming OpenDharma events in India.

I would like to thank all those who welcomed Panna with lovingkindness
and supported him in many ways in the past months:
OpenDharma teachers, Burma activists and Sangha friends.

Personally I was happy to reconnect with all of you.

May you all be well,
paul

I have been blessed with the opportunity of joining a Sharing Nature Training
Program(www.sharingnature.com) with Joseph Cornell in May. I am travelling to
San Francisco (actually America for the first time) and would be greatful for
any accommodation possibilities for the dates of 2 and 8-10 May. I am
considering renting a car for the 8-10 May and doing some camping up the coast.
If there is anybody in the Bay area who has tips or suggestions for campsites
etc or would like to join me please let me know. Looking forward to all

'I refuse to accept the idea that man (woman) is mere flotsam and jetsam in the
river of life which surrounds him (her). I refuse to accep the view that
mankind (humankind) is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism
and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood (sisterhood) can never
become a reality. I refuse to accept the cynical notion that nation after
