Description

Tom Peters: "Where do good ideas come from?"
Nicholas Negroponte, founder and director, MIT Media Lab: "That's simple...from differences. Creativity comes from unlikely juxtapositions. The best way to maximize differences is to mix ages, cultures and disciplines."

"At Sony, we assume all products of our competitors will have basically the same technology, price, performance, and features. Design is the only thing that differentiates one product from another in the marketplace." --Norio Ohga, former Chairman and CEO, Sony

"Remember that innovation stalls with the status quo. Celebrate your team members' differences." -- Tom Kelley, general manager of IDEO

Welcome to the Design Collaborative online community, another venue for sharing visions, history, resources, and provocations; participating in critical discourse; and collaborating to provide our students at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) with additional opportunities and successes related to the evolving multi-disciplines of design.

Five programs in three instructional divisions at CCSF initiated a design collaborative to create a curriculum and eventually establish a design program based on interdisciplinary and collaborative processes in art, architecture, graphic communication, multimedia, and photography. It is the hope of the founding group that other design related departments and programs will join and contribute to realize the full potential of this grass-roots initiative and, at the same time, fully retain their traditions, cultures, and viability.

ENGAGE, WONDER, COLLABORATE, INNOVATE!
