Heyza!

The Denver Zine Library is looking for a new space asap. Due to
zoning issues the city has the crew looking for a new space,
hopefully a small office space in Denver that is open on the weekends.

If you know of any possible spaces please email me quickly.

Thanks much

Plannning Meeting 7/21/04

In Attendance: Kristy and Kelly

Moving

·        Stevyn at Iron Feather is compiling a list of cheap office spaces where the zine library can move in August. (This is a necessary move because of the zoning laws at it’s current location).  The original plan was to find a store front that Kelly could live behind, but we had no luck finding an affordable place with a residence in the back.

·        Renting a studio at the Other Side Arts may be an option

·        Make “WE MOVED!” flyers to post around town and mail them out to zinesters

·        Post new address to various listservs

·        Put a map to the new DZL on the back of local flyers

Website

·        Talk to Bart about getting denverzinelibrary.org as our new website. He’s going to host us on his server (Kelly)

·        Can our website be denverzinelibrary.org and our e-mail be …@dzl.org?

·        Talk to Billy to see what kind of program he uses for building his website and will maybe do a complete redesign when she gets to Chicago. (Kelly)

·        Contact Joseph about rebuilding the DZL computer for cheap (Kelly)

·        Update the website with moving info, NPR interview info – figure out how to update the catalog

Events

·        Bike Ride Benefit

o       7th or 14th of August

o       Silkscreen t-shirts for the event (get shirts donated or buy them at thrift stores), charge $10 a person for the event

o       30 people is our goal

o       See if Derailleur can host a bike maintenance workshop

o       Bring flyers to the Bike-In at Breakdown and make an announcement (7/25)

o       Get bagels donated from Einstein’s for the end of the ride

·        Kelly’s Going Away Party (she’s going to Chicago for two months)

·        Friday the 13th (Aug 13)

o       Places: The Mousehole, Bar Bar, Mercury Café, Lost Lake, Charlie’s?

o       Maybe get a keg and charge people for an all-you-can-drink cup

o       Live music: talk to Erin, Art Biggs, Ian Cooke, Duncan, Matterman

o       Silent auction that night to raise additional money

§         Local Artists: Toshimi, Ravi, Henderson, Andre, Jason

§         Local Businesses (for gift certificates): Watercourse, Mercury Café, Hi-Dive (drink coupons?), Double Entendre, Wax Trax, Twist & Shout, Tattered Cover, St. Mark’s, Paris on the Platte, Lakeside, Einstein’s, Wild Oats, Sakura Square, Movie Tickets (Esquire, Mayan)

·        Other potential places to host an event:

o       Lakeside, Bar Bar, Hi-Dive, Kristy’s House

Next Step

·        Kristy and Kelly will meet again at the DZL on Saturday 7/24 at noon to discuss updates.

Hey zine lovers!

It's been quite a while since anything was posted to this list, but the
denver zine library is alive and well and full of fun. this wednesday
(2/9) we had an organizational meeting, and here's what we talked about:

upcoming events - Shawn Granton (Ten Foot Rule) is doing a DIY Comics
Workshop on Saturday, March 12, at 3pm. The Tranny Roadshow will be on
Saturday, March 26, (time undetermined).

copy machine - we got a working copy machine donated to the library! it
hasn't been delivered yet but will soon be in the space, so that zines
really can be made here from start to finish and so that you can buy cheap
copies that support a place you care about.

nonprofit status - a couple months ago, we filed the articles of
incorporation to become a 501(c)3 nonprofit. we have 18 months from the
time of doing that to turn in our full application for nonprofit status.
this weekend we will look over the application in depth and make a plan to
get that done asap.

board of directors - part of the nonprofit thing means we need an official
board of directors with at least 5 members. Kristy, Kelly, and Jamez are
definitely on the board and there are a couple other people who might be.
if you're interested in being part of the organizing board for the
library, let us know.

membership - we are going to launch a membership program this spring. for
small fees, members will receive benefits such as free copies,
subscriptions to the newsletter, t-shirts, membership cards, and/or
subsciptions to the "zine of the month".

volunteer training - to help avoid possible confusion, new volunteers will
not be left alone in the library until they have worked 2 or 3 full shifts
with an established volunteer.

planning meetings - there used to be regular planning meetings and those
have fallen away in recent months, but we are resuming bimonthly meetings.
if you would be interested in attending and have a preference on days or
times, let us know before we set a schedule. meetings are relaxed and
usually involve food. also, we would like to have a joint meeting with
the breakdown collective to help build that relationship and discuss ways
for the two spaces to work together.

website - the website is desperately in need of updating. kristy will
contact kelly and bart for help/training to get it back on track.

fundraising - the library needs money badly! we are going to contact
relevant local businesses to request sponsorship - i.e. one month's rent,
$120 - and offer them advertising in the newsletter as one benefit of
sponsorship. also we need to hold more events that don't take an excess
of planning time. we may contact the hi-dive about doing another benefit
there. also we will look into the posibility of running an occasional
field canvass after 501(c)3 status has been attained.

newsletter - the february issue of the newsletter has not yet been
completed and needs to be pulled together this weekend.

outreach - we need volunteers to help teach zine-making workshops as part
of the community outreach through The Other Side Arts. also, we will
contact local zinesters (like some of you) to offer that they can use the
library for zine release parties when they have new publications.

other - we need to set up a bank account, check into donations of copier
ink, move another book shelf into the space, organize and catalog like crazy...

February Newsletter

I apologize for the lateness of this newsletter. Today is February 16,
this should have been out around the first, and overall we try to keep
true the deadlines we set. We are however, a completely volunteer run
community lending library and well, the volunteer power hasn’t been too
strong of late. We need your help. Please stop by and see how you can get
involved. Use the Library and spread the word. A library meeting this past
week declared an all out action plan to step up the operation of the
library, heads together we’re committed to meeting all of our deadlines.

The Denver Zine Library welcomes Weston to our volunteer crew. Thank you
for your cataloging work, organizing a benefit concert [March 5], and for
scoring a XEROX machine, our first. Not only did Weston win the Xerox
machine, he attempted to resurrect it from it’s basement grave with some
friends – now that’s tough! But power muscle in place, the Xerox machine
is still in some woman’s basement not being used.

If anyone has free access to a moving company or any of the ramps used to
move large machines, please contact the library, because we could use some
help resolving this issue.

Weston, you’re the volunteer of the month, congratulations. Also, thank
you Jamez for all of your hard work at the library these past couple of
weeks and for committing to finish our 501C3 application [with the hope
that we may one day canvass for the library together].

Membership:

At the action meeting we decided we’re going to start a Denver Zine
Library Membership sustainer. With membership you will get a monthly
newsletter, a specified number of free copies a month, a t-shirt, and a
library card. You do not need a membership to check out zines! We’re also
starting a zine of the month distribution to thin out our doubles. DZL
Membership and the Zine of the Month Club will each have a timeline of six
months. More information to come –

library, and are held at the library.

The Denver Zine Library won Westword's first annual
Literary Arts MasterMind Award, which comes with a
$4,000 prize. There were a total of 5 prizes awarded
to individuals and organizations for changing the
creative and cultural landscape of Denver.

This unprecedented amount of money validates all of
the work that our volunteers have done trying to
establish ourselves in our city. Since December 2003
when it opened, the library has functioned as an
independent space that provides over 5,400 zines for
loan, sends resources to people out of state, hosts
all ages events, offers volunteer opportunities and
literacy outreach and education, and is committed to a
DIY existence.

The award opens up myriad opportunities for our future
capacity. It's up to us now to seize this big break
and make the best of it.

Please come celebrate the win with us on Saturday
March 5, 8 pm. This event is free. Donations for the
library will be accepted at the door and may include:
Cash Money, zines, blank t-shirts or sweatshirts [for
screen printing], zine supplies – staplers, paper,
office supplies, free copy cards, and other precious
gifts of the trade.

There might be food, juice and soda!

Email me to dzl@... to get involved.
Check out our website – currently under construction
but not for much longer - www.denverzinelibrary.org.
Stop by the library on Sat. or Sun. from 1-5 pm, and
bring your ideas, zine, lunch, band demo, whatever. We
open the library at other times too, you can email me
to make an appointment. We are currently located at
1644 Platte Street, downtown, inside the Other Side
Arts.

Our deepest appreciation to: the Westword and Jason
Heller, Anthony Camera, Patty Calhoun, Ben B. for
pulling a late night with me at Kinko's, Kelly, Jamez,
the Other Side Arts and all of the resources they
provide, all those out there writing, drawing, making,
and self publishing, sweet donations, our volunteer
crew, and people who use the library.

Also, thank you to the people, groups, and spaces that
work equally as hard or more to keep our communities
healthy, creative, inspired, and active and that know
firsthand the rare recognition of awards like this
one. Especially in Denver: Breakdown Book Collective,
RAAP, Brother Jeff's Cultural Center, Derailer Bike
Collective, Lady Fest

Arts, Cafe Nuba, Rainbow Alley, the Spot, dedicated
activists, on and on and on, etc. -

a million ways, if we could, thank you.

Denver Zine Library Meeting Minutes 9/14:

· Incorporation

The status of the incorporation process is that Kristy
has read up on the NOLO press How to Form a Nonprofit
Corporation and will stop by the Secretary of State’s
office this week to pick up the official application.
Kelly has committed to reading and reviewing the
application in parts as it is written. The goal for
finishing the application is the end of October at
which time we will seek out a lawyer to review the
final application and then submit it for approval to
the state.

We talked about the advantages and disadvantages of
incorporating. The advantages are that we will become
eligible for grants and other sources of support,
which will increase our capacity to run outreach
projects in Denver, possibly develop an internship
program, purchase property for a permanent location
through a capitol campaign, and act as an umbrella
organization for other projects to receive funding
and/or in-kind support. The major disadvantage of
becoming a nonprofit is that now the government can
scrutinize every detail of our existence by looking at
our books, we now face loads of record and
bookkeeping, and must develop and maintain an
organizational structure.

· Communication

The Denver Zine Library needs to put out more regular
email and updates on our yahoo email list. We also
decided we’ll start collecting email addresses at zine
library and related community events.

Kelly is committed to updating the website after
Kristy messed it up and never fixed it! As the
cataloging gets finished, we will update the online
catalogue and look for a way to possibly print it up
double sided for cheap. An email will go out to
inform people that our website and online catalogue
are updated.

· Materials Check Out Book

Our materials checkout book has gone missing. If
anyone has seen it, please contact the library
immediately – dzl@... - we have
almost two years of tracking information in this book
and not all of it is backed up! We will start backing
up checked out materials on a computer, but not the
community computer at TOSA because often files are
deleted. For now, we will back up information on
Kristy or Kelly’s computers.

· Maintaining a Community PA

Since we purchased the PA system from Double Entendre,
we’ve made it available to groups and individuals as a
community resource. We’re now realizing that we won’t
be able to afford to keep it maintained without the
support of all those who use it. So, we’ve decided to
charge a small fee for use that would go in an
envelope and be used only for the maintenance of the
system [microphones, cables, whatever else]. We
decided on $5-15 sliding scale for individuals, $15-25
for bands, and $20-40 for organizations. These prices
are negotiable and any input is welcome!

· Moving

Last month we were approached by TOSA to discuss
defining the zine library space. As of now, we are
paying rent and occupying part of a community space
for the resident artists at TOSA. After this was
brought to our attention and some issues worked out,
we decided to begin to look for a new space that might
accommodate our needs a little bit better. So far,
Michael and Kristy have lightly canvassed the Capitol
Hill and Park Hill – East Colfax area, but haven’t
found anything. We are sensitive to gentrification,
and will not perpetuate it. We are exploring the
option of partnering with other organizations that
might also need space, and even starting new projects
for space [a community kitchen, a vegan pizza
cooperative, record cooperative, etc.].

At the meeting we discussed the importance of
utilizing community networks to find a space, instead
of relying on property owners only. Sarah mentioned
that there might be some companies or individuals
who’d be willing to give a discount on rent to
non-profit organizations. We are committed to
exploring collaborations, and myriad ideas about space
and projects.

· Volunteering

We’re having an internal training for all existing DZL
volunteers the week of 9/19. If you’ve volunteered
for us but haven’t in the past few months, please
come! A date has not been set yet and we are
flexible! Contact Kristy directly at
kristy.fenton@...

· Outreach

The DZL is assisting Brandi, a creative writing
instructor, to teach a writing program to a small
group of girls at Exclesior Youth Center on D.I.Y.
culture and zines. At this time we’re providing
Brandi with materials and resources and discussing
arranging a trip to the library and providing some dzl
volunteers to speak to the girls about writing zines.
The program will culminate in the participants
publishing and distributing their own zine, and
hopefully donating copies to our library.

· Madison Zine Fest

Some of Denver wants to go. The fest is October 15th
from 11 am- 6pm. More information can be found at
madisonzinefest.org. Amtrak tickets from Denver to
Chicago one-way on the Zephyr are $82. We might be
able to go cheaper than that with a group discount.
We would catch a ride with Chicago to Madison. Keep
in touch.

Sorry for the length. Next time I’ll put in a funny
picture for entertainment. SPECIAL THANKS to Sarah
for coming to our meeting! We love you Sarah. Kristy
kept minutes.

Fin.

6:30pm. A former Madisonian, Minneapolis-based writer,
poet, and gay activist, Randy Stern, will read from
his book of poetry, The Boy From Reseda. Randy's
poetry often looks at life from the perspective of a
man who "did not fit the 'ideal' stereotype of gay
culture." Sometimes witty and brash, at other times
soulful and serene, Randy's writing shows more of the
rough edges of personal triumph, struggles,
acceptance, and hope.

The Denver Zine Library is now the cutest darn toddler
you'll ever see. At two years old, we now have over
6,500 zines from all over the world.

To celebrate, join us for a delicious vegan potato bar
(complete with baked, mashed and fried potatoes).
Listen to local zinesters read from their zines. Then,

Denver Zine Library Staff Meeting Minutes, December 4,
2005

At this meeting we discussed five topics: cataloging,
moving, completing our nonprofit application,
volunteer training, and fundraising.

1. Catalogue: Kelly has catalogued over 1,000 zines
since returning from Chicago this summer [!]. We now
have approximately 6,500 zines and will update the
catalogue online this month. Kristy and Kelly will
meet with outside tech help to determine if investing
money in an online database is feasible. It is
definitely necessary, as the current cut-and-paste
process utilized to update our catalogue is arduous,
to say the least.

As a result of all of the cataloguing, we’ve have a
good size collection of zine doubles, which Kristy,
Vance, and Kelly will organize and arrange to trade
with other zine libraries in the states.

Kristy and Kelly will develop an excel spreadsheet for
checked out library materials.

2. Moving: Michael has been talking with Wax Trax
record store about renting out the former Across the
Trax space that just recently closed this month. The
owners have requested a proposal from the zine
library, which will be finished up this week and
submitted to them. Many meetings will have to happen
before anything is decided, but we are very excited
about this possible collaboration!

3. Nonprofit application: our nonprofit application
is almost complete. We discussed the structure for
the board of directors, our final piece. Eamon Tewell
has agreed to sit on our Board, thank you Eamon! We
talked about inviting other people to sit on our board
and have committed to writing up this final
application piece and submitting invitations with the
requirement language to these people this month. We
would like to have our first official board meeting in
January 2006.

4. Our next volunteer training will happen on Monday
December 12 at 7 pm. We decided not to publicize this
and expect to conduct an internal training for
existing volunteers; however, if someone would like to
be trained who has never volunteered with us before,
it would be appropriate [and appreciated] if they came
to this training.

5. Fundraisers: right now we are focusing on December
11th – our two year anniversary! Additionally, there
is a possibility of having a fundraiser after hours at
the Esquire theatre. We will screen a movie at
midnight during the week and collect donations, eat
popcorn.

A reminder: December iith, this Sunday, at 6pm: PARTY
and OPEN HOUSE! Baked Potato Bar, Badminton, and zine
readings! All ages, always. Please spread the word.
Donations will be collected at the door.

Michel Valdez is coming to Denver to remind us how ridiculous elementary school can be. This zinester from LA will be reading from School Daze, a zine about his experiences as a teacher's assistant. In it, he describes not only what he teaches the students but also what he's learned: "You haven't lived until you've been stabbed repeatedly in the leg with a number two pencil."

And... breaking into the local zine scene, support Denver zinesters Anna Inazu (behind wire fences), Shannon Perez-Darby (From Here To There And Back Again...) and Andie Lyons (Already Too Much; Never Enough). Also reading is veteran zinester, Kelly Shortandqueer (Shortandqueer).

Please excuse cross-posting, but please do pass this on to whomever you
feel would be interested:

Are you a zinester librarian? Do you make a zine about your life as a
librarian, about your library or about what you do when you are not
busy daydreaming about Dewey?

I am in the process of creating a fully cataloged zine collection at
the School of Library and Information Studies Library at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison that is entirely devoted to works by, for and
about library workers and libraries. This collection will work to share
information by and about librarians and library workers for the
students of our library school and with the greater library community.

Please send a brief description of your zine as well as ordering
information to: aasellie@....

Also, if you are aware of any titles that you do not create but that I
might want to add to this collection, please get in touch as well.

Hey everyone!

San Francisco Zine Fest WILL be taking place in 2006
(Sept. 9th + 10th, to be precise)!

After a short spell of uncertainty, the SFZF is back
at CELLspace (2050 Bryant St, in the Mission). This
year's show promises to be a lot of fun, with
workshops, film and animation screenings, and of
course dozens of local artists with everything from
zines and mini-comics to hand-made apparel and prints.
As always, admission will be FREE!

Table space is now available for zine-makers,
cartoonists, and all manner of crafty folk. Sell,
trade, and otherwise share your work with nearly 1000
attendees and your fellow creators. Full tables (8
feet) are only $40 if you sign up before August 19th .
Half tables (4 feet) are $25 all the way up until the
date of the Festival (unfortunately, we had to
increase our table fees because CELLspace's rental
rate went up 25% since last year! However, we are
confident that we will be able to get more attendees
at the show this year and make it fun and successful
for all). We would really love to see each and every
one of you back this year. Due to the limited amount
of time before the Festival, it is very important that
you sign up soon... visit http://www.sfzinefest.com
and fill out our handy registration form tout suite!
Thank you so much for your support!

SFZF 2006 is brought to you by the hard-working folks
at King-Cat Comics (John Porcellino), Pineapple Venetti zine (Misun
Oh) and Family Style zine (Jonas Madden-Connor, François Vigneault,
& Sarah Gion). Many thanks to Calvin Liu, who headed up SFZF 2005,
and Jennifer Starfiend, who started the whole thing. All questions
can be e-mailed to
sfzinefest@... (just like always)!

Yours truly,

the SFZF 2006 Crew

Watercourse Foods (206 E. 13th Ave.)
7 pm - 11 pm

The Denver Zine Library has just published the 2007 Denver Zine
Calendar, which features 16 local zine writers' illustrations and
artwork . We will release the calendar and hold a silent auction to
raise money for our all-volunteer run library.

Please come and support the Denver Zine Library and get your very
own copy of this amazing calendar for just $10! Also, check out our
awesome silent auction of art, services and gift certificates!

The artists: Molly Zackary, Celso, Anna, Kevin, Kelly Shortandqueer,
Kristy Fenton, Jason Heller, Misun Oh, John Porcellino, Amelia
Crewe, Brian Leech, Oren Kyle Cantrell, Dylan Scholinski, Andie
Lyons, Shannon Perez-Darby, Jaks, Eleanor, and Patty.

Please pass on this invitation to everyone you know!

* Upcoming Fancy Tiger class *
Make a zine! - $10

Learn how to make a zine! This class is for people who aren't
really sure what a zine is as well as veteran zinesters looking for
new ideas. Taught by a Denver Zine Librarian, you will hear about
the history of zines and the local zine community, see several
options for zine layouts, and learn the mechanics of assembling a
zine. Come with some creative ideas and leave with a starter zine.
Class fee includes all materials. For more information about zines
in Denver, check out http://www.denverzinelibrary.org

1 – 2 hour class
Saturday, November 11th 4:30-6:30
At Fancy Tiger, 1 South Broadway
http://fancytiger.com/

PREVIOUS EVENTS:

* Fancy Tiger class *

On October 14th, the Denver Zine Library taught their first zine
class at Fancy Tiger. Although we had originally hoped for more than
two people, this intimate class was perfect to help the students get
some ideas for a specific project they're working on together.
Denver, keep your eyes open for a new zine about being a single
mother! We look forward to working with more zine novices and even
veterans at our next class, Saturday 11/11!

* Other zine workshops *

The Denver Zine Library went to two sections of an Introduction to
Women's Studies at Auraria to explain what zines are and the many
ways they can look. Students in both sections got excited about
their class assignment once they saw how much flexibility can be
found in making zines. We hope to get some finished copies donated
to the Denver Zine Library. Thanks to Arlene Sgoutas for
introducting so many folks to zines!

* Pedal Powered Bike Tour *

Along with several other organizations, the Denver Zine Library
hosted a screening of several films as part of the Pedal Powered
Movie Tour. About 40 people came to watch short films addressing the
US-Mexico border. Filmmaker Bill Brown biked from Washington DC to
Boulder to screen the films.

For more information on the tour and descriptions of the films,
check out the website: http://homepage.mac.com/r.maisano/bb/index.htm

OTHER LOCAL PROJECTS:

Hi, this is Weston of Junktown zine. My girlfriend, Lynne, and I are planning on
putting together a sorta' McSweeny's-style short fiction zine (or literary
review if you want to make legit). We're looking for short stories from Denver,
or maybe just Colorado, based writers for the first issue. In the future, we'll
include writers from elsewhere and maybe have "themes" and whatnot, but for this
first one, it just has to be fiction and you just have to be from Colorado.

"Pick Up the Mic"
Director: Alex Hinton [95 Mins]
www.pickupthemic.com

Director Alex Hinton's moving portrayal of the emerging glbt hip
hop, or `homohop,' movement showcases the growing genre and profiles
many of the top queer hip hop artists who are creating this raw, new
body of music. The film chronicles an amazing and unapologetic
underground music movement, and the queer-identified
singers/rappers/hip hoppers who are speaking out through their
performance art – about their lives, their loves, and the homophobic
music culture that surrounds us. We are treated to explosive clips
of their live performances and behind the scene interviews, and see
just how queer hip-hop defies the music industry's most homophobic
genre.

Meet Juba Kalamka, the co-founder of the Deep Dickollective and
Sugartruck Releasing, one of a number of new homohop recording
labels. Learn Katastrophe's personal journey as a transman and
spoken word artist; why Paradigm doesn't think she'll be invited to
perform at the Dinah Shore Golf Classic; or why Johnny Dangerous
will definitely never be invited to perform with Deadlee in most
public settings! As Tim'm, co-founder of the Deep Dickollective
says, "we have to make the music that we want to listen to, because
it's not what we hear in the clubs."

The film includes more from talents like Dutch Boy – creator of the
first homohop online community, Rainbow Flava, JenRo, Marcus Rene
Van, Tina G, and QBoy.

You'll be clamoring for more as the film comes to an end.

BUT WAIT! There IS more…

Join Bent Lens Cinema and Friends after the film for

*** LIVE *** performances from several of the top homohop talents
featured in the film

Including…

The Deep Dickollective – a men's hip hop collective from Oakland, DC
and NY, featuring Juba Kalamka – co-founder of the D/DC and of Peace
Out concerts in the Bay Area

<www.myspace.com/deepdickollective> <www.myspace.com/jubakalamka>

AND

Paradigm – now a PhD candidate at NYU in Musical Arts, Shante Smalls
knows how to turn a phrase, a lyric, and make it rhyme

===============================================

SISTER SPIT

Do you love Michelle Tea? Do you love queer women writers? Do you love hot touring queers? Then you'll love Sister Spit. Sister Spit is making an oh so very exciting stop in Denver!!!

When: Tuesday April 17th
Time: Doors at 7:00 show at 7:30
Where: St. Cajetan's on the Auraria Campus (for a location map go to
http://www.mscd.edu/enroll/admissions/campus/map/ )
How much: $10 donation at the door (no one turned away for lack of funds)

Sister Spit: The Next Generation is a national tour pairing five brand-new, twenty-something queer female/ish writers with original Sister Spit roadsters and award-winning writers Ali Liebegott and Michelle Tea. Based on the orginal Sister Spit Ramblin' Roadshow of the late 90s, Sister Spit: The Next Generation hits the road in Fall 2006, nearly a decade after the first Spit van set sail, reviving the rowdy, raucous literary adventure with a mixture of fresh faces and seasoned roaddogs!

WHO'S IN THE VAN?

Writer, performer and literary event wrangler MICHELLE TEA will MC the evening's festivities as well as read an excerpt from her recently published first novel, Rose of No Man's Land. Michelle is co-founder of the original Sister Spit experience, which began as an all-girl open mic in the early 90s and morphed into a national tour which dragged Eileen Myles, Beth Lisick, Katastrophe and countless others across the country at the end of the decade. She is the author of four memoirs, including the award-winning Valencia and the illustrated Rent Girl. Michelle has edited three anthologies, most recently Baby, Remember My Name: New Queer Girl Writings. Joining Michelle Tea is veteran EILEEN MYLES, who has written thousands of poems since she gave her first reading at CBGB's in 1974.

Plucked from the pages of the anthology Baby, Remember My Name: New Queer Girl Writings are~writer and future progressive librarian RHIANNON ARGO, who cites good ole fashioned ladies room gossip as a prime literary inspiration; 25-year old filipina jewish whitegirl TAMARA LLOSA-SANDOR, who, when not writing, enjoys a bowl of ramen while listening to Kiss Double Platinum, NICOLE J. GEORGES, who is an illustrator, pet portrait maker, and author of Invincible Summer Zine, illustrator, publisher and writer CRISTY C. ROAD, who, at the tender age of 23 has been producing her zine for over 10 years, recently published an illustrated novel, Indestructible, and churned out countless illustrations for punk bands, political orgainizations and magazines such as Bitch and Jane; writer, actor, and karaoke master Robin Akimbo. And reading from her newly published second novel, The IHOP Papers (Carrol and Graf), about a young lesbian pancake waitress, ALI LIEBEGOTT. A writer, illustrator and visual artist, Ali's first book, the epic road poem The Beautifully Worthless, was awarded a Lambda Literary Award for Debut
Fiction. Ali was a member of Sister Spit's 1997 maiden voyage, as well as the 1999 final national tour, wherein she delighted both audiences and tourmates with her fatigueless humor and ability to smash beer cans with her breasts.
