You won't want to miss this incredible reading by the amazing Ryka Aoki!

“In the hands of Ryka Aoki, words can be everything – a tool, a fire, a gift, a weapon, a meal, a barricade, a refuge. I was tempted to ration this book, so I’d have some when I needed it, but found myself gulping it down and was so nourished by it the whole way along.”

–S. Bear Bergman, The Nearest Exit May be Behind You, and Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation.

Seasonal Velocities invites the reader on a fragile and furious journey along the highways and skyways of discovery, retribution, and resolve. Through her poetry, essays, stories, and performances, award-winning writer Ryka Aoki has consistently challenged, informed, and enthralled queer audiences across the United States.

********** Sunday, July 15 Help us move (to a new space in the same building) **********
Sunday, July 15, 2012
11am-3pm

For those of you who have visited us in the past couple of years have seen the incredible space we get to share with several other projects, making up the 27 Social Centre. Recently, weve been able to expand into the front part of the building and the Denver Zine Library is excited to move up to the front space, shared with the Denver Community Health Collective (check them out here: http://www.denverhealthcollective.com/). Whats better than an afternoon massage and reading zines? I cant think of anything either.

Wed love some extra help moving the DZL, especially since we have to bring everything outside and around the corner to access the new entrance to our space. If you have some time, even 30 minutes, please come by between 11am and 3pm on Sunday, July 15. Well be moving boxes, shelves and our other furniture. It might take us a week or two to start getting settled, so please be patient while we get the zines back on the shelves.

********** Saturday, November 3 – Don’t Leave Your Friends Behind: Concrete Ways to Support Families In Social Justice Movements and Communities **********
6:30pm potluck, reading and maybe even a puppet show!
At the Denver Zine Library – 2727 West 27th Avenue, Denver CO

China Martens will read from her new book "Don't Leave Your Friends Behind," joined by local contributor Clayton Dewey.  Potluck and activities for children - all ages community event!

How do we create new, non-hierarchical structures of support and mutual aid and include all ages in the struggle for social justice? There are many books on parenting, but few on how to be a good community member and a good ally to parents, caregivers, and children as we collectively build a strong all-ages culture of resistance. Many well-intentioned childless activists don’t interact with young people on a regular basis and don’t know how.

Don’t Leave Your Friends Behind is a collection of concrete tips, suggestions, and narratives on ways that non-parents can support parents, children, and caregivers in their communities, social movements, and collective processes. It brings in voices often missing in many social justice movements, including those from children involved in an occupation for a school library; trans and genderqueer parents; parents of children with developmental disabilities; doulas supporting incarcerated mothers; and childcare collectives across the country. Respecting, valuing, and sharing caregiving work builds a healthier community for all.

Let's build an all-ages, inclusive revolution that leaves no one behind!

China Martens is a proud single mother of a grown daughter and a founding member of Kidz City, a radical childcare collective in Baltimore, Maryland. Her first book is The Future Generation: A Zine-Book for Subculture Parents, Kids, Friends, and Others (Atomic Book Company, 2007).

********** Friday, March 15 Book reading with Imogen Binnie **********
You won't want to miss this reading at the Denver Zine Library with Imogen Binnie reading from her soon-to-be released novel, Nevada!

Friday, March 15 at 7pm
Free - books are available for $17.95 or two for $30
At the Denver Zine Library, 2727 West 27th Ave, Denver

Nevada is the darkly comic story of Maria Griffiths, a young trans woman living in New York City and trying to stay true to her punk values while working retail. When she finds out her girlfriend has lied to her, the world she thought she'd carefully built for herself begins to unravel, and Maria sets out on a journey that will mostly certainly change her life forever.

Imogen Binnie, author, activist, and musician is releasing her first novel, Nevada, with Topside Press this Spring. She writes a monthly column for Maximum Rocknroll, as well as the zines The Fact That It's Funny Doesn't Make It A Joke and Stereotype Threat. Her work has appeared in Aorta magazine, The Skinny, PrettyQueer, and the Topside Press anthology The Collection: Short Fiction from the Transgender Vanguard. She is emerging as a incisively intelligent and startlingly vital queer voice in todays literary landscape.

Novelist Michelle Tea writes,
"This book blew my mind. It's everything - personal, political, funny, raw, hyper-brainy and down to earth. . . A really powerful new literary voice. I'm really excited about Imogen Binnie!"

Daphne Gottlieb, contemporary poet, writes,
Nevada has jackhammered the men-only genre of the great American road novel into bits, and gives us instead truth like scraped knuckles, exhilaration, and the terror of possibility. Put the hammer down. Read this.
