Nationwide, dog and cat owners are fighting Animal Rights (AR) activists whose primary goal is the elimination of the "ownership" of animals including pet dogs and cats. The AR movement has co-opted enough politicians to repeatedly get punative pet legislation introduced at the local, state and national level. Unfortunately, many of the legislators who introduce such legislation are Democrats. As members of our local, state or national Democratic Parties, we need to send a message to these legislators that our pets are important to us and that Democrats oppose this type of legislation. We need the elected officials from our party to understand that while we support "Animal Welfare" we DO NOT support "Animal Rights" as interpreted by the AR activists who believe we should not own animals at all. If our pets are important to us, we have to convince the elected members of our Party to join our fight to preserve our rights to own our pets and make decisions about their welfare.
Note: This forum is moderated and is for those already committed to the fight against AR. It is not for discussion of the merits or horrors of the AR movement nor is it to be used to try to convince a forum member to change their views about AR. It also is not about bashing the participants on this site or their political opponents. It is solely dedicated to providing a forum to try to develop strategies for convincing elected Democratic officials to support the interests of animal owners and to oppose AR legislation. Flames, trolls and other bad behavior will not be tolerated. Topics: Democrats, animal rights, mandatory spay neuter, dog laws, cat laws, pet laws, rescue law, breeders, dog shows, cat shows, BSL, breed specific legislation, hunting, working dogs, euthanasia, animal shelters.
