Description
This is the place for Military Police, Air Police, Security Police, and Security Forces to meet and share the stories and experiences that we share with the "bond of the blue beret."
What is the Air Force's premier all weather ground attack war fighter? The Security Forces troop! Air Force Security Forces was formed in 1997 when the dynamics of world events and evolving threats necessitated change. In 1996, forged by the lessons of the Military Police, Air Police, and then Security Police, then Chief of Security Forces, General Richard Coleman, envisioned the force needed to defeat a known enemy and emerging threats. The edict was to merge separate AFSCs and career paths (security, L/E, MWD & CATM), each with differing missions, into one fighting force. Essential was the ability to develop a core skill set designed to produce an expeditionary airman with the ability to perform in garrison, as well as deploy and protect national assets supporting a variety of world-wide taskings. The 1996 bombing at Khobar Towers, which took the lives of 19 airmen, acted to reinforce and accelerate the merger. The end result was what we now know as Security Forces. We organize for wartime, not peacetime, and train as we fight, we've increased our numbers to truly be an expeditionary force, and we've equipped our force with technological enhancements to help ensure full spectrum dominance. Winston Churchill said it best in his June 29th 1941 Memo: "Every Airfield should be a stronghold of fighting air-groundmen, and not the abode of uniformed civilians in the prime of life protected by detachments of soldiers." Here's another great quote: "That states which separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards, and its fighting by fools" Thucydides, 'The Peloponnesian Wars'
