I'd like to encourage anyone concerned about the Tanger proposal as
it stands. The developers have claimed they want to work with the
community but have shown no signs of considering anything the
community has suggested. It will bring a huge increase in traffic on
Commack and Grand Blvd, as well as an increase in diesel fumes from
the increase in trucking. There are concerns about safety, bright
lighting, noise, litter and parking capacity. The requests to expand
existing roads to the Sagtikos parkway such as Pine Aire Drive south
of the LIRR, and extend them to the site, have been brushed off as
too expensive. There is the possibility of entering the site from
West Industry court, and straightening out the bend in the road where
Saxwood connects to North industry Ct., which would enable traffic to
make only 2 turns, at Corbin and Pine Aire, then onto South
2nd/Saxwood street and go straight to the site. These could be
widened and only go through industrial areas. There should be no
entrances on Commack road at all. The best would be if the mall was
not built at all, but they paid about $29 million for the site so
they will eventually win the right to build something. We have to
make sure it does not ruin the quality of life in the area, clog
streets withg traffic and that it does not adversely impact the
integrity of the adjacent Edgewood- Oak Brush Plains Preserve
