BELGRADE, Jan 21 (AFP) - Serbian police in the southern town of
Vranje have charged three ethnic Albanians with "terrorism" in the
tense region, where guerrillas are fighting for unity with the
neighbouring breakaway province of Kosovo.
Police said they had uncovered a "terrorist group" made up of
Luan Sadiku, 41, Fadil Ramadani, 36 and Murtez Limani, 46, all from
the nearby town of Bujanovac, the Fonet agency said Sunday.
They arrested Sadiku but the other two men were on the run,
Fonet said.
Police said they found 30 kilos (66 pounds) of explosives, guns
and ammunition in the men's possession. They face 10 years in jail
if convicted.
Bujanovac is on the edge of a narrow buffer zone between Serbia
and its UN-run province of Kosovo. Ethnic Albanian guerrillas have
been fighting for months for the border region, with a large
Albanian population, to join up with an independent Kosovo.
