Number of malignant diseases increases

Kosovska Mitrovica, January 19 (Tanjug) - Drastic increase of
malignant diseases in the last year in comparison with the previous
ones shows that the epidemic of this incurable disease is possible in
the region of Kosovska Mitrovica, an internist doctor Nebojsa Srbljak
said today in Kosovska Mitrovica.

In the last year, in the medical center in Kosovska Mitrovica, 158 persons
had been cured of malignant diseases, what was in comparison with 1998,
220% more, the director of the Medical Center in Kosovska Mitrovica
Dr. Milan Ivanovic told the reporters.

Ivanovic illustrated that with pure facts. At pectoral department in
Mitrovica in the last year 19 people were cured, at pediatric 3, internal
40, orthopedic 4, urology 19, otorhinolaryngology 24, gynecological 20,
and at the dermatological department, in only a month and a half, 10
persons with skin cancer had been discovered.

The doctors of the medical center in Kosovska Mitrovica cannot claim the
cause of the increase of malignant diseases, however, they are afraid that
it is a consequence of the NATO bombing with the ammunition tipped
with the depleted uranium.

They called for the authorized institutions in Serbia and the FRY, as well
as the representatives of the international community in Kosovo and
Metohija, to discover the real situation and to undertake all the necessary
measures in order to protect the health of the population and to alleviate
the consequences of the NATO bombing.
