BELGRADE, Dec 26 (AFP) - The CIA and Albainian mafia were behind
January's gangland-style murder of Arkan, the leader of Yugoslavia's
most notorious paramilitary group, one of the slain warlord's close
aides alleged Tuesday.
"We know who the organisers of Arkan's assassination are. They
are the CIA and Albanian mafia," Borislav Pelevic, who succeeded
Arkan as the head of the Serbian Unity Party (SSJ), told the Beta
news agency.
Pelevic, whose party scored a surprise success in Saturday's
Serbian elections, did not elaborate on his allegations.
Zeljko Raznatovic, better known as Arkan, who headed the
ruthless "Tigers" Serb militia, had been indicted for war crimes
committed in Croatia and Bosnia between 1991 and 1995 by the UN's
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
